About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Looking for a vacation rental in northern Michigan? A cottage near Traverse City? A cabin to rent when you drop-off or pick-up your child at Interlochen Center for the Arts? A house convenient to the golf (or skiing!) at Crystal Mountain?

This beautiful house is a bird lover's paradise in beautiful northern Michigan, located on 4.5 acres on the western shore of Duck Lake with 160 feet of lake frontage. The house was completed in spring 2007 and is beautifully finished, the house looks across a secluded bay to wooded hills on the opposite side of the lake. With approximately 2800 square feet including a finished walk out basement it sleeps four guests in comfort and privacy in two bedrooms.

The world renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts is approximately one and one half miles away, and the village of Interlochen about a mile beyond that. Traverse City and Crystal Mountain are each about 20 minutes away.

Birds and wildlife

Wildlife and birds are abundant and varied in the area, with frequent deer and turkey sightings, along with raccoons and the occasional fox and flying squirrel. We also have otters and muskrats in the lake, and frequently hear coyotes in the evenings calling across the lake. The many species of bird include a pair of nesting loons which produced two offspring two years ago (but not last year). Below is a list of bird species we often see from the house (in spring and summer we have a huge selection of migrants):

Blue Jay, Cardinal, Robin, Chickadee, Cow Bird, Titmouse, Goldfinch,

Nuthatch, Grosbeak, Purple Finch, Baltimore Oriole, Cedar Waxwing, Ovenbird, Woodpeckers (Pileated, Red Headed, Red Bellied, Hairy, Downy, Northern Flicker), Common Loon, Tundra and Mute Swans, Mallard, Wood Duck, Tree Swallow, Belted Kingfisher,Snowy Owl, Bald Eagle, Turkey, Blue and Green Heron, Red Wing Blackbird, Hummingbird, Common Merganser, (down the road are a nesting pair of Osprey)

Beautiful secluded "Home Away from Home"

  • 5 of 5

The owners description of the property is exactly what you get!

Beautiful home on a large wooded parcel.

We put out the bird feeders (seed & suet w/fruit) and watched dozens of birds of all kinds visit. Saw two adult bears wonder thru to.

Great area for biking, golf and water sports.

Within close proximity to Interlochin, 18 miles to Traverse City and 2 hours away from Macinack.

We highly recommend this home and look forward to returning.

Lovely Home

  • 5 of 5

We relaxed and enjoyed this lovely home on Duck Lake. The owner was attentive and quick to respond with answers. We loved the home design and all the details incorporated in build. The week was fun as we explored the lake, Traverse City, Leland, Suttons Bay, etc. We always looked forward to returning to the cabin and enjoying all the bird sightings, quietness, coziness, and home-cooked meals. Thank you.

Just returned home from our second stay at Bird Lovers Paradise. What a great place for our family to have some fun and relaxation! We love watching and identifying the birds, canoeing on the lake and having our morning coffee in the sun room. We hope to return soon.

Most enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing time at this house. Spacious, clean and very convenient to ICA. The attention to detail in the build is quite impressive. In addition, we were surprised by the diversity of the wildlife to go along with the beautiful view of the lake through the wood. While I never got a chance to meet the owner, he was most gracious and genuinely helpful in making sure our stay went well. I have no hesitation recommending this lovely home.

What a wonderful stay in ...

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay in a wonderful home! Still commenting on how WONDERFUL the beds were and how well we rested. This is now our 'NEW' Santa Fe, NM (which has been our all time favorite place to stay for over 20 years). Enjoyed watching the birds, the cool weather (even for MI), cooking out 2 nights on the deck... just delightful. Thanks.
