Great location for family and friends!
Discover our mountain retreat, a spacious and inviting property with quick and easy access to many area attractions including the Bavarian town of Leavenworth, WA. The old world craftsmanship of cedar and stone combined with modern amenities makes this lodge an exceptional and unique property.
The lodge is situated on 3 wooded acres in a quaint neighborhood with over 5,000 square feet that can easily accommodate friends and family or just a mountain getaway.
With 6 King log beds, 3 Queen beds, 2 twins, 2 bunkbeds, and 1 foldaway bed, there are endless configurations that will accommodate your group.
There are two massive and cozy fireplaces, a large and inviting great room, fully equipped kitchen with brand new appliances, a sitting room with large dining table, and a covered 8 person hot tub and large sparkling pool open seasonally..
We have two plasma TV/DVD/VCR players and an expansive movie library. A covered sitting porch to take in the mountain air and gaze at the stars is located on the second floor. Lastly, there is also a reading balcony with chairs and large book library.
We take pride in our retreat and love it for our own family. Many families come year after year to reunite, gather, and explore. We will do everything we can to create the same lasting memories for you as well.
We are an easy 20 minute drive to one of the best ski slopes in Washington State, Stevens Pass. We are in walking distance to Wenatchee National Forest with hundreds of miles of snowmobiling and groomed cross-country skiing and sledding. Leavenworth has an affordable 'ski hill' that is ideal for kids with beginner level rope tows and an intermediate level tube hill. It is also a base point for cross country ski trails.
We are in easy walking distance to Lake Wenatchee and 5 minutes from Fish Lake, known for it's feisty rainbow and large brown trout. The Wenatchee River, just re-opened for Steelhead fishing after a 15 year hiatus, runs throughout the area, not to mention hundreds of mountain lakes and streams within a 30 mile radius.
Hiking opportunities are endless. Trailheads are along the ridges, rivers and lakes throughout Chelan County. You can take in some amazing views of the picturesque Alp-like Cascade Range that surrounds Leavenworth. Literally some of the best hiking the Pacific Northwest has to offer is right out our door.
The famous Bavarian town of Leavenworth is just minutes away. There are over 100 shops with a little something for everyone. Stores include international trade, food (chocolates, wine, cheese, bratwurst, etc.), art, clothes, and the unique!
The lodge has 2 massive stone fireplaces to warm your feet. The hot tub is always ready to offer a relaxing dip year round. The sparkling aqua pool is an ideal place to float during our hot spring and summers.
Our property is a perfect retreat for you and your family in a rustic mountain environment with modern conveniences.

About Margaret Sonnen
We purchased the lodge after falling in love with both the area and the lodge itself. We have a growing family and wanted to provide a place where they can all gather, have fun, and make lasting memories. We also wanted to continue sharing the lodge with others since it has had such a rich history of loyal visitors!
Margaret Sonnen purchased this Lodge in 2007

Family bonding and togetherness
The Dirty Face Lodge was the perfect place to stay with extended family for our daughter's wedding at the adjacent Brown Family Homestead. In preparation for the events leading up to the wedding, which included a pancake breakfast, make your own lunch, wedding rehearsal dinner preparation, wedding appetizer preparation, and Mother's Day brunch, the spaciousness of the lodge was conducive for a large group bonding experience. The lodge was cozy and comfortable, yet spacious for all of our extended family and friends! We would love to return again and do more "kicking back" rather than wedding preparation!
We loved having you guys stay at the Lodge! I'm so thankful for your thoughtful review, we strive for the best every time. Congratulations on such a special occasion and we hope you are able to come back again. We would consider you Legacy Guests! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Magical Family Christmas
We spent our family christmas at the dirty face lodge this year. What a wonderful time we had. Plenty of room for the whole family. We enjoyed leavenworth and the town lighting.
The lodge made our family christmas so special, everyone came. It really was a picture perfect christmas.
The lodge is so family friendly. It was warm and welcoming from the first minute through the door.. When it was time to leave we felt like we were leaving our own home. Next year we will stay a week.
Thank you again for making our family christmas magical.
Fantastic for kids and a large group.
We loved our stay at the lodge! This was a great place for our large annual friends get together. The kids had a blast enjoying the driveway with their bikes. The owner was super accommodating and we loved that we all had our own rooms and space.
Dirty Face Mountain Lodge was a wonderful retreat for our group of 16 friends! We will return!
First, we were a large group of 16 adults, staying during April 2018, so we can't comment on pool or children's activities. During our stay we cooked and played board games, visited Leavenworth and Plain and enjoyed staying up late watching the fire.
On the plus side is the lodge itself. BEAUTIFUL! The beds and furnishings and copper sinks are works of art. Everyone thought their beds were comfy with WONDERFUL pillows and the main bathrooms were very roomy with INSTANT hot water that never ran out (even with 16 people showering!) The baseboard heaters were very responsive as well, the entire house was warm and cozy even with outside doors opening and closing. Double refrigerators were great and we did a load of laundry each day to refresh our facecloth/handtowels and dishtowel supply.
And most wonderful of all was the owner, Margaret Sonnen, who was so very friendly and responsive and quick in responding to all our questions and issues. We can't think of anything she could have done better, she was AWESOME! At one point we called her for a problem we were experiencing and she sent over her handyman, Travis. Travis went shopping and still arrived within 2 hours, fixing everything we mentioned and more, with a smile on his face! This is by far the best Lodge Owner I have had the pleasure to deal with (rented 6 other sites in Seattle area) and I recommend her highly!!
As a group of 16 (some of us in our 50/60s), the seating was sometimes inadequate (about 12 chairs with backs, tons of stools that could not be used at tables) but we brought 4 chairs with us that filled out the seating.
There were never enough spoons, so we handwashed in between dish washer loads. We decided this was a "3 butt" kitchen, a little tight for our group.
Room for improvement comments from the group included:
1. Bunkhouse shower was very, very tight for adult use
2. Privacy curtains were missing in bedrooms, undressing had to be done in pitchblack room unless you wanted neighbors watching. Mostly a concern in 1st floor bedrooms
3. There were no main course size bowls. We had chili and different soups as main meals, but only had 10 or so small cereal bowls available
4. Food from previous renter in freezer upon arrival, cleaners should have tossed.
5. TP allotment of 3 rolls per bathroom, in main lodge (for a 4 day stay by 16 people) was short-sighted. But Margaret had been trusting enough to give me access to their storage so we restocked.
A GREAT WEEKEND FOR ALL!!
It has a real lodge feel to it. Our experience was great!
All the 10 rooms were very spacious, great for big crowds. There were no problems at contacting and working with the owner when certain issues arose. The owner was quick at helping us with whatever need we had.
The only down side to our experience was that the hot tub was not turned on when we came in. We had to turn it on ourselves and wait the whole day for it to heat up, meaning we didn't get the change to use it on the first day which we planed to do.
Our Christmas Family Reunion was everything I hoped for. Assessible owner -pleasure to work with.
We were 12 adults and 9 children celebrating Christmas 2017 at Dirtyface. The rustic feel of the lodge decor fit well with our Scouting family. All the modern amenities, complete with Christmas trimmings, were considerably better than a scout lodge, though! We had plenty of room for gathering all together in the big living room, for sleeping in private rooms, showering, playing board games, and for grandchildren running to and fro.
The fully-equipped kitchen was well stocked with pans, bowls, dishes and utensils, dish towels and soaps. I would bring tablecloths next time. The back room refrigerator froze the fresh veggies :( but everything else worked wonderfully. Plenty of hot water, soap, tissue and towels (and pool towels) in the bathrooms too!
The place was comfortably warm in the cold weather and the well-stocked pile of cut wood for the huge fire place was very much appreciated! We didn't use the kitchen fire place.
There were even sleds for use on the property, which activity ended in a very rigorous snowball fight. The large hot tub was perfect for warming up after making snow angels while wearing only swimsuits!
We went on fun excursions into Leavenworth, enjoyed a delicious family banquet meal prepared just for us at the Icicle Inn/ Resort, and rode a 2-horse drawn sleigh at Mountain Springs, but being all together in the cozy, winter wonderland, Dirtyface Lodge, made this stay my favorite Christmas, ever. It was truly our home away from home for 5 magical days and nights. Thank you for the wonderful time.
So happy to hear you had a great time at the lodge! Please consider us next time for your wonderful gathering!
