Welcome home to Majestic Point! This ocean front house is located at the end of a peninsula of land surrounded by water on 3 sides! Get the best of both, sunrises and sunsets, all from one location! Awesome ocean views from almost every window in the house! There are 3 bedrooms on the main floor with 2 full baths and the basement has a large full bath and two additional bedrooms. The enclosed sun-room gives you spectacular views of Frenchman's Bay as well as Acadia National Park! Located just 9 miles from the village of Bar Harbor you will find this home a peaceful location away from the crowds, traffic and the fight for parking in town. You can catch free bus transportation on the 'Island Explorer' just at the top of the road that runs 7 days a week. 'Dark Sky' viewers love the pristine skies over Majestic Point. The stars are amazing!! W/D, MW, 2 TV's, VCR, DVD, 2 CD stereos. Come and enjoy Maine 'The Way Life Should Be'

Mount Desert Island information: Acadia National Park is just minutes away from Majestic Point. Take a guided whale-watching tour from the pier in Bar Harbor, bikes can be rented in town or just bring your own, go hiking, mountain climbing, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking, canoeing, sight-seeing.......the list goes on and on. Bar Harbor's gift shops are only 9 miles away and other harbors all over the Island welcome visitors as well. Explore the hiking trails or take a picnic to the beach. Buy a park pass to use for the week for only $25.00 USD and visit the famous Thunder Hole and Sand Beach. Sight-seeing is at it's best on any part of Mount Desert Island. The weather is spectacular and cool nights might require a sweatshirt or even a jacket! 'Dark Sky' viewers love the pristine viewing of the constellations from atop Cadillac Mountain or even better from the house on Majestic Point. You can't get any better than this place for a vacation of a lifetime!! Oh, you won't want to forget your camera!!

Trenton and Ellsworth attractions: Trenton, Maine has much to offer away from Bar Harbor. The Hancock Regional Airport is just a mile away where you will see many private jets and regional commercial aircraft flying in. Just off the runway there are sight-seeing flights available to view Bar Harbor from the sky and for the dare devil in you there are Glider rides available as well. Trenton also has many lobster pounds to get the 'fresh catch of the day' to take home and cook yourself or just sit at a picnic table and eat right there, they'll cook it up for you! There is also a local IGA grocery store across from the airport for your shopping convenience. Trenton also has a putt-putt golf course and a driving range available. Ellsworth has a Wal-Mart store and the famous L.L. Bean Outlet as well as a movie theater. Many churches are found throughout the area and please don't hesitate to pop into a church supper you might find around town......visitors are always welcome!

Additional information about Majestic Point: This home was my parent's retirement cottage. They spent over 22 summers together here. Most of the oil paintings you'll see were done by my father. I'm sure you will take good care of their home. It holds many special memories for our entire family.

There are a few games and cookbooks in the dining room cabinet. The beach is filled with shells and beautiful rocks, bring a bucket to collect some special souvenirs! Anything you find in the house, you are welcome to use. Just leave things where they were for our next guests. I hope you will sign the guestbook on the kitchen table and give us any feedback that you think would make this an even better vacation spot so you will return each year to make your own special memories on Majestic Point! Thank you!

About Mary Neville

I am currently living in Kentucky, however I am a Maine native. I grew up in Brewer and have spent every summer in Bar Harbor for as long as I can remember. A lot of my relatives are still living in the Bar Harbor area.

Mary Neville purchased this house in 1980

Why Mary Neville chose Downeast and Acadia

This property was purchased by my parents and they built this cottage as their retirement home over 30 years ago. It has served them well as a place for family and friends to gather throughout their golden years. It is a very sentimental place beloved by their children and grandchildren. A lot of wonderful memories were made here.

What makes this house unique

You can view sunrises from one side of the house and magnificent sunsets from the other end of the house. A lot of wildlife can be seen on land, sea and in the sky from the windows in the house as well as walking around outside.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful place with us. 2 families (one of 4 + one of 6) enjoyed the waterfront and all the wildlife it brings. The tides were spectacular. Walking in low tide (right off the house) we found starfish, crabs, lots of snails, anemoneas, sandollars, sea urchines and even saw seals. Sea Kayaking is a must, the Maine landscape is simply stunning. It's sad to be leaving, but our stay here was unforgettable. Thank you!

Wonderful View, perfect house for our family of 10

  • 5 of 5

The house with 3 bed rooms upstairs and 2 in the very dry basement was perfect for our 6 adults and 4 kids, ranging in age from 8 to 13, It is an ideal location to both Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The view of sunrises and sunsets was awesome. As a current Midwesterner, I had forgotten the the difference between low and high tide. We arrived at high tide and didn't understand how we were to find all the sea creatures on the beach -- then the tide went out. What fun for the kids and the adults to see what we could find. A great vacation.

Great week with family and friends

  • 4 of 5

The view from this house is beautiful! We spent most of our time (when at the house) sitting in chairs looking at the water or playing yard games enjoying the view! The house is a little dated (TV's) but we knew that from the pictures/description. There is no wifi or ac but owner clarified that with us before we signed the contract. The breeze off the water cools the house off nicely though! The house was clean and the owner was readily available if we had questions. I would recommend this house, especially for the view and the quality time with our family and friends without the distraction of technology (but you can find wifi in Bar Harbor). :)

Owner's Response: Hi Kim, Your family was like a breath of fresh air in my home! I can't thank your father in law enough for all his talents and I hope by now he got my thank you surprise!! You all are welcome back to our family home as often as you wish! Thank you for your sweet review. I know the TVs are a bit dated but new ones tend to sprout legs and walk away! Best to get the family outside in the fresh ocean breeze. I hope you will cherish your family memories for a long time. Come again soon! Sincerely, Mary

HOUSE IS A DISASTER! VACATION RUINED!

  • 1 of 5

If you signed contact before 7/31/16, you'll be horrified with this review. The Owner knows of most, if not all, the downfalls with the house, as I contacted her shortly after our arrival. After bringing them to her attention, was told they were in the contract (they weren't, except one which I will describe later). Owner then immediately changed the listing on HomeAway and removed ALL trace of the misleading items on 7/31/16, the day after contacting her.

Search for property done 10/27/2015. Top priorities in search were A/C and WiFi, important since we are vegetarians. After arriving, I immediately knew we were in BIG trouble with this house. I will list the downfalls found quickly, since there's a space limit for this review (no pictures I have could be posted).

COCKROACH (kitchen counter)

SPIDERS & WEBS (all basement windows along with filthy windows)/

BUGS (both upstairs bathrooms/DEAD BUGS basement window sills)

NO INTERNET (immediately removed from listing day after arrival)

NO A/C (ONLY item in contract. Check VERY last line.)

NON-WORKING FIREPLACES (2 total: upstairs/basement) - forget about romantic evening. Use romantic space heater provided.

EXTREME/UNBEARABLE MUSTY SMELL IN BASEMENT:

Dehumidifier on MAX setting

Multiple Containers of DAMP RID on mantle and window sills.

Owner knew of this major problem. Did not bother to let us know.

Basement could NOT be used for entire week.

OLD BROKEN/DATED FURNITURE:

Broken dining room chair hidden behind sunroom door

(tried to blame us)

2 dining room chair backs delaminating (scratched back)

VERY Small TV/VCR combo in sunroom (dust off your VHS tapes!)

1990's square TV in living room - if your non-BlueRay DVD's are widescreen format, movie will play in 1/3 of screen (black stripe top/bottom of movie)

Even SMALLER TV in basement (NO DVD/VCR)

FILTHY KITCHEN:

Counters grungy (could not scrub clean), Refrigerator not cleaned (jelly-like substance in left crisper drawer) Dishes left in Dishwasher.

NO PHONE SERVICE IN HOUSE (note on table saying local calls OK! and gives phone #)

BEDROOMS DIRTY/VERY UNCOMFORTABLE:

Bodily fluid stain on Mstr BR sheet.

NOBODY SLEPT THE ENTIRE WEEK. Light comes in all rooms at sunrise (5:15-5:30am our week).

NO WORKING OUTSIDE LIGHTS!

HOUSE IS VERY HOT!

Asked multiple times for partial refund, Owner refused!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOUSE! OWNER/LISTING are deceptive!

P.S., PRICE OF RENTAL JUST INCREASED!!!!!!!!!

Spectacular views! And a great location!

  • 5 of 5

Breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunset from the back porch. Great place to decompress and enjoy your own personal view of Mt. Desert Island. Also great kayaking from your own back yard straight into the bay. The house was well appointed, clean and very comfortable. This is a hidden gem in the Bar Hatbor area ..... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Fantastic location,beautiful house,wonderful vaca

  • 4 of 5

The property was just as gorgeous as described. Everyone loved the house & shore. Even the kids didn't want to ever leave it. The house was clean and everything we needed was provided. We rented kayaks to keep on the shore and spent time exploring islands and the bay (which had a resident seal population...terrific). The scenic air tours in the area are great fun as is the whale watching. A lobster pound is within walking distance and offers great food. The washer/ dryer is a life saver with kids on the shore everyday collecting sea stars and crabs. Both Bar Harbor and Acadia are quick easy drives. The owner was very helpful and quick to respond. We would recommend this place for sure and would love to return ourselves. You can't go wrong with this place! The ONLY thing I could even come up with as a negative on this place (if I had to) would be the size/strength of the hot water heater. Over all, this was one of our favorite vacations and most of it was because of the house and it's location. Couldn't ask for more in a vacation spot. I could very happily LIVE there.

What a great place!

  • 5 of 5

Hi Mary,

We had an awesome week at the house. The weather was very hot (80's-90's) but the windows and fans made a great difference and maximized the cooling breezes from 3 the sides. We were very comfortable and did not want for anything. The location was perfect for spectacular views, lobster pounds and getting about easily. Morton's Moo and Blueberry Hill in Ellsworth and MDI Ice cream in BH are must sees (we love our ice cream). We swam at Echo Lake. We were going to go to the Acadia Reparatory Theater one eve but we ran out of time.

It was easy for our family of 6 adults to spread out and have our space. I loved that we felt like we were in our own quiet little world away from everything but minutes away from anything we needed. The paintings are beautiful but my personal favorite was the one of Otter Cliffs. We became avid tide watchers too.

It was nice having both the living room and the sun room with 2 tv's for gathering and options. The basement was a nice cool retreat sometimes too. We played board games several evenings. We never had an issue with running out of hot water or low water pressure. It was better than home actually. The pictures don't do justice to the property.

Thank you for everything. You were super easy to work with.

We made some great memories this week!
