Eagle Heights Cottage is located on Vashon Island in the Puget Sound. We like to call it a B&V--for bed and vegetables--because we offer our guests fresh, pick-your-own vegetables, herbs, and fruit in season, grown naturally without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Eagle Heights Cottage is located on the bus line and is easily accessible from Seattle, Tacoma, or the Kitsap Peninsula, with or without a car. We offer satellite TV, DVD player, Wi-Fi, CD player/radio, double bed, queen-sized sofa bed for the kids, bath and shower, washer & dryer, easy access to public transportation, vegetable and flower beds, outside seating area with grill.
The Eagle Heights Cottage was comfy with every amenity needed for our short stay. The décor was a blend of antiques and wonderful decorative fabrics. The fixtures in the kitchen and bath had been updated in a style that blended with the ambiance of the cottage. My only suggestion would be to trim the foliage back to make the front walkway more accessible. Otherwise, we had a lovely time and the owner was most accommodating.
We were visiting Washington State from Texas and had a week of activities planned all over the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the island on one of those days and every evening. Each day the cottage was the perfect escape to relax and prepare for the next day. It was wonderful to get away from the city life and experience a more simple way of living, away from everything. If you stay here, you must eat some of the eggs from the chickens in the back yard. We boiled a few and enjoyed them for breakfast with some of the local fruits we had purchased the day before. If you arrive during the warmer months, it may be a bit stuffy when you initially walk in. Just open the windows and use the box fan she has in the closet. It cools down quickly and to a cozy 50 degrees overnight which you can feel throughout the cottage. Be sure to get downtown and experience the various shops, restaurants, and you simply must try the coffee at the Vashon Island Roasterie. We stocked up on a few bags of beans before we left for ourselves and to share. Also, if you are visiting over a weekend, the farmer's market has many wonderful finds from dried spices to homemade candies to beautiful wood carvings and jewelry. We could not get enough of the island or the state. We absolutely loved our stay and would stay here again.
This is a lovely cottage, I very much enjoyed my visit. Elizabeth is great with communication and very pleasant to work with. This is less than 5 minutes from the Northwest School of Animal Massage and just a little further to town and the grocery store and restaurants. Only a couple of minutes to the ferry terminal on the north and about 20 minutes to the south ferry. I highly recommend Eagle Heights Cottage for your time on Vashon Island.
We were on Vashon Island for a wedding and stayed just one night. The house was clean and tidy for our stay. We didn't do any cooking while there but the kitchen seemed to have everything one would need. There were four of us: my husband, myself, and our two children (ages 9 and 7). The house is small but was just fine for the four of us and our needs. It would be fun to stay there again in the summer when the garden is growing. We would definitely stay there again.
I stayed here with two other friends while we attended a wedding on Vashon. The owner was very accommodating in letting us arrive a little early (we needed to change before the wedding). We didn't spend too much time here, but every thing was clean, tidy, and comfortable. We enjoyed picking blueberries and exploring the garden. The location is pretty near the ferry and is on the main road onto the island. The only slight (very slight) downside is that my friend mentioned that sleeping on the pullout couch was a little uncomfortable. On the plus side the bed was great and it was very pleasant sleeping with the windows open. In sum, it's probably a little better for just two people, but we would return.
My wife and kids (ages 5 and 7) stayed two nights. Daytime temp was low-to-mid 70s and the house was comfortable day and night. I think if temp was in the 80s it would have gotten stuffy because there isn't much ventilation. Hard to leave the doors open because of the numerous bumble bees (good ones!) and less numerous but nesting wasps. The garden is prodigious and appreciated but did need to be trimmed back a little because it was impossible to walk around in it (including from the gate to the front door) without pushing through growth - so, needed a bit of a haircut. Blueberries were delicious and great to have abundant fresh chicken eggs. Note that the house is situation immediately next to what I might call the sole island 'highway' so there is some road noise, though it didn't impact our sleeping (we ran fans at night for white noise and a little air flow). The location on the island is pretty good, about three minutes to 'downtown' by car. The kitchen is adequate and bathroom was well stocked. Locally made caramels and soap were really nice touches. I would stay here again if either the owner trims the abundant plant life or allows me to bring some small clippers and do it myself. Oh, and please inspect for wasp nests under the eave and eliminate those, too. :-)
