About Elizabeth Sullivan

I'm Elizabeth Sullivan. I have lived on Vashon Island since 1995. I came to Washington state from Wisconsin to earn an MFA from the University of Washington. When my husband and I married in 2003, we decided it would be best to live in my husband's house, which is bigger, and I have rented out Eagle Heights Cottage ever since. It is sunny and I love to garden here.

Elizabeth Sullivan purchased this cottage in 2001

Very Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

This is not a Quaint Cottage. Or a Rustic Cabin. It is a cold, ill lit, shabbily furnished, very clean Shack, with indoor plumbing. The only thing "cute" is the gate. The walkway is overgrown with Lavendar, our pant legs were wet to the knees by the time we reached the house. The yard might be wonderful in the summer but while we were there it was just a mess. (Pots and gardening equipment laying all over the overgrown yard.) The bare floors were so cold we bought slippers in town. Lighting in adequate for reading. Furnishings spars, 2 chairs for eating. Only a couch and 1 ragged chair in the living room. Cooking and eating utensils were so sorry. No broiler pan, I improvised with cup cake tins. (Hint; that worked well.) Checkout was very early, 10:00 am, I was feeling very ill, had to get on the Ferry, so didn't read up on sort the garbage or do the dishes. I'm sorry about that.

Both my friend and I were terribly disappointed! But we did have a lot of laughs!

Owner's Response: I could tell these guests were not going to be happy by their email before they even arrived. I was also unaware they would be given my negative review to read before they wrote theirs, but it sounds like they were. I'm sorry these folks didn't enjoy their stay. If you are considering my cottage, please read the other reviews. Half of my rentals every year are from returning guests.

Charming Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The Eagle Heights Cottage was comfy with every amenity needed for our short stay. The décor was a blend of antiques and wonderful decorative fabrics. The fixtures in the kitchen and bath had been updated in a style that blended with the ambiance of the cottage. My only suggestion would be to trim the foliage back to make the front walkway more accessible. Otherwise, we had a lovely time and the owner was most accommodating.

Cute cottage, perfect for a small family

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting Washington State from Texas and had a week of activities planned all over the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the island on one of those days and every evening. Each day the cottage was the perfect escape to relax and prepare for the next day. It was wonderful to get away from the city life and experience a more simple way of living, away from everything. If you stay here, you must eat some of the eggs from the chickens in the back yard. We boiled a few and enjoyed them for breakfast with some of the local fruits we had purchased the day before. If you arrive during the warmer months, it may be a bit stuffy when you initially walk in. Just open the windows and use the box fan she has in the closet. It cools down quickly and to a cozy 50 degrees overnight which you can feel throughout the cottage. Be sure to get downtown and experience the various shops, restaurants, and you simply must try the coffee at the Vashon Island Roasterie. We stocked up on a few bags of beans before we left for ourselves and to share. Also, if you are visiting over a weekend, the farmer's market has many wonderful finds from dried spices to homemade candies to beautiful wood carvings and jewelry. We could not get enough of the island or the state. We absolutely loved our stay and would stay here again.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cottage, I very much enjoyed my visit. Elizabeth is great with communication and very pleasant to work with. This is less than 5 minutes from the Northwest School of Animal Massage and just a little further to town and the grocery store and restaurants. Only a couple of minutes to the ferry terminal on the north and about 20 minutes to the south ferry. I highly recommend Eagle Heights Cottage for your time on Vashon Island.

Cute island home

  • 5 of 5

We were on Vashon Island for a wedding and stayed just one night. The house was clean and tidy for our stay. We didn't do any cooking while there but the kitchen seemed to have everything one would need. There were four of us: my husband, myself, and our two children (ages 9 and 7). The house is small but was just fine for the four of us and our needs. It would be fun to stay there again in the summer when the garden is growing. We would definitely stay there again.

Stay on Vashon

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here with two other friends while we attended a wedding on Vashon. The owner was very accommodating in letting us arrive a little early (we needed to change before the wedding). We didn't spend too much time here, but every thing was clean, tidy, and comfortable. We enjoyed picking blueberries and exploring the garden. The location is pretty near the ferry and is on the main road onto the island. The only slight (very slight) downside is that my friend mentioned that sleeping on the pullout couch was a little uncomfortable. On the plus side the bed was great and it was very pleasant sleeping with the windows open. In sum, it's probably a little better for just two people, but we would return.
