The National Geographic Society used the Northgate House for eight weeks during 2014 while working on an upcoming Yellowstone film documentary. They lived at the Northgate house while making the film and used the garage for their film editing. They also set up a blind in the yard to film some of the local wildlife. Those that have rented the Northgate House will recognize some of the scenes in the upcoming National Geographic film.
The North Gate House is a beautiful, vacation home completed in 2008. The house has approximately 2,160 square feet of space on three levels.
There are many special touches throughout the house from the soaring 21 foot high ceiling of the great room to the solid oak, wide plank flooring, to the custom glass paneled deck. From the wall of windows in the comfort of the great room or outside from the deck, you will have unobstructed views into Yellowstone where herds of elk and bison can often be seen grazing. Big horn sheep are often viewed walking the ridge behind the house.
The house includes a fully equipped kitchen with a large capacity dishwasher, above the range microwave and beautiful hickory cabinets. There is central heat and air with individual controls for each floor (a must for high desert summers where temperatures can reach the 90's at times), HD satellite televisions, high speed internet access, high efficiency washer and dryer, a Renai hot water system (you'll never run out of hot water)and a bathroom on each level.
The lower level bedroom consists of two twin/single beds, an HD television, blu-ray player and Xbox system with 15 games and 4 controllers. The main floor bedroom has a double bed, HD television and blu-ray player, while the upper level bedroom consists of a queen size bed with a High Definition/satellite television system and blu-ray player. There is also a High Definition 3D/satellite television system with blu-ray player in the great room.
Situated in the quaint town of Gardiner, you will be able to find anything you need. There are many cafes, restaurants and numerous shops, a grocery store, post office and bank. There are fishing guides, rafting companies and outfitters that offer horseback riding both in and outside of the park.
The fishing in the area is wonderful and inside the house you will find instructional videos on flyfishing plus a book guiding you to the different waters in Yellowstone which are all just a short drive away. There are two Blue Ribbon streams within a mile of the house, the Yellowstone which is 3 blocks away and the Gardiner River approximately 1 mile.
In the winter there are many available activities such as ice skating at Mammoth Hot Springs (6 miles from the house), snowshoeing in Yellowstone and the surrounding area or cross country skiing. There is snowmobiling with rentals available in and out of the park, down hill skiing at Bridger Bowl (94 miles away) or Big Sky (175 miles) and our favorite - wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley where you will likely see herds of bison, elk and possibly some of the Yellowstone wolves.
After a long hard day of activities you can relax in the hot springs of Boiling River on the Gardiner River (3 miles away) then come home to the luxury of our new house overlooking Gardiner, The Northgate House.
Thanks for the use of your beautiful home. We have been renting homes for many years and your home was the most well stocked & accommodating house we have stayed in yet. Thank you for the attention to details and the nice added touches. This was our 1st trip to Yellowstone & your house made it that much better!
Our family of four (with young children) stayed at the North Gate House. It was beautiful and had everything we needed! The kids loved the 3D movies, x-box, and Wii.
This was my first experience renting a home and the North Gate House set the bar high!! I never want to rent a hotel room again.
Gardiner Mt is beautiful and this house has the best views. We enjoyed the park and seen lots of wildlife. We also enjoyed white water rafting and horse back riding!! Thanks for opening your home to us!!
Where do I begin? Absolutely magnificent! Better than any hotel that you can stay at. Nothing lacking.
From welcome goodies to tea strainers, comfy beds to bath toiletries. Northgate House has it all. The views
from the great room are grandiose! Snow capped mountains at every view. The owners anticipate your every need.
You are a very short distance from the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. We were able to access every
area of the park open this time of year. Gardiner, Mt. is a quaint little town with shops and markets. We have family that lives in Gardiner and had a wonderful time. I could go on and on, but enough said. Take a vacation
of a lifetime and experience the Northgate House. Thank you Rick and Cheryl.
This was our second stay at the Northgate house and it will not be our last. I am continually impressed by the level of detail that Rick and Cheryl put into making the house a perfect home away from home. The kitchen is extremely well stocked. There wasn't a cooking need that the kitchen did not fulfill during our stay. The crockpot and griddle were both wonderful for us. The snack basket was also very much appreciated. The coolers provided were very handy for taking drinks into the park. I really can't recommend this house enough.
We would like to give the Northgate House even more than 5 stars. They have anticipated your every need and then some. We found the house to be very clean and comfortable with a layout that is perfect for multiple couples traveling together. We had a delay in our flight schedule, with our friends due to arrive before us and we had the housekey, Rick and Cheryl went above and beyond to help resolve the problem, giving up time on their weekend to solve our dilemma. We are very grateful for that. We would recommend this home to anyone, it is amazing.
This vacation rental is absolutely amazing. Our 2 daughters ages 8 and 10 stayed in the basement bedroom and absolutely loved their own space and bathroom. The view from the middle floor is wonderful and the deck makes a great spot for morning coffee or to watch the sunset. The kitchen was well stocked for supplies and I loved that it included a crockpot so we could put our supper on before we left to go hiking/exploring in Yellowtone and come back at the end of the day to supper being done. The welcome snacks were also a great treat and were used everyday in our backpacks. This is our 3rd visit to Yellowstone and we absolutely loved the north side, especially Lamar Valley and the drive to Silver Gate. Even in mid July the crowds weren't bad. We saw many animals including a bear and cub, another bear with twins, elk, buffalo, coyote and even a grizzly when hiking near Beartooth Highway. Husband also enjoyed fly fishing in the Lamar Valley. Don't hesitate to book this house and book it early - word will spread what a fabulous place it is!
We weren't prepared for such an awesome home. Usually the VRBO's are not quite this special. Everything that we needed was waiting for us (including a very nice crock pot). It was nice to know that after a long day exploring in the park that this home was waiting for us and we could prepare a great meal. There was a really nice grill that we grilled on a few times. We were very sad to leave the park and this home away from home. If there was a 10* rating, we would give it to this home.
