Quaint cottage perfect for two on the quiet side of Mt Desert Island!

  • 5 of 5

Bottom Line: The Seamist cottage is a perfect place to rest and recover from long, strenuous days in Acadia and is highly recommended for any couple who wants to save a bit of money and doesn’t mind driving a bit farther to get to the park or Bar Harbor.

Pros: Fully-equipped kitchen; Cute accommodations; Quiet and secluded; small touches/details; “Things To Do” list from Robin and Marc; Less expensive than Bar Harbor or Southwest Harbor;

Cons: A bit of a drive (a half hour or more) to the main park and/or Bar Harbor

Review:

My wife and I had an excellent vacation to Mount Desert Island and we truly enjoyed our stay at Robin and Marc's Seamist cottage! The cottage is a bit off the beaten path, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective. We enjoyed getting away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and Acadia when we got home in the evenings. However, this does contribute significantly (1hr+ per day) to the amount of time you have to drive to get to Acadia and Bar Harbor. For us, the added driving was definitely worth the money we saved on our accommodations.

The cottage itself is perfect for a couple; comfortable, a decent amount of space, cute Acadia-themed decorations, and a full kitchen. There were certainly a number of details and small touches that didn’t go unnoticed and really made the place feel home-y (e.g., I forgot shampoo and soap, but luckily that was provided at the cottage). For the week that we were there, the cottage felt like home, and it was always a relief to return after long and strenuous days hiking and traveling all over the island.

We were able to fully utilize the kitchen, making our breakfasts and a few other meals without feeling cramped or under-equipped. Pretty much everything you’d need to cook on the stove top or in the oven was available. The living area was cozy and comfortable, with a small TV, cable, and a DVD player, which were perfect for a little evening relaxation after a long day in the park. We didn't have any problems with the WiFi. The bedroom is a nice upstairs loft with a full bathroom attached. The skylight was a nice touch, and we really appreciated being able to open all the windows and let the sea breeze keep us cool while we slept.

Our vacation to Mount Desert Island was outstanding, and we will definitely be returning in the future! The Seamist Cottage was a perfect home for our week on the island. Thanks Robin and Marc!

Wonderful Place to Relax

  • 5 of 5

The week we spent at Seamist Cottage Apartment was wonderful! It is accessible to Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Acadia Park and the Bass Harbor. We took both the DOT Ferry to Swans Island and the Frenchboro Lunch Tour with Island Cruises. These Activities are within walking distance from Seamist Cottage. The Cottage itself is very comfortable, and Robin has thought of all the things you might need for a comfortable stay. I would definitely return to stay again next year.

The Seamist Cottage is a cute, quiet, and comfortable cottage in Bass Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at The Seamist Cottage early in the season (the week before Memorial Day). We enjoyed the "Quiet Side" of the Island, and did not mind the drive to the other side. The Cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Current trail books and maps were on the coffee table and available for us to use and we found them very helpful.

Thanks, Robin and Marc, for your attention to detail!

Cozy, convenient, and cost-effective!

  • 4 of 5

The Seamist apartment is comfortable and well-decorated. It is in a quiet location, and Robin ensured we had everything that we needed. She supplied shampoo/conditoner, towels (including large beach ones), plates, utensils, tupperware, microwave, oven, glasses, washer/dryer with detergent, etc.

The location was quite convenient to the national park.

Our favorite feature was the jacuzzi tub! It was such a pleasure to use after long hikes around the island. The bedroom had a pretty skylight, and all of the windows/skylight had effective light-blocking shades. We slept well every night.

The only thing that we struggled with were the stairs inside the apartment. We aren't the fittest individuals, and stairs usually aren't a problem for us; however, the apartment stairs (for some reason) made our knees hurt, going up and down. They may be a little taller, wider than what were used to. Not sure. It didn't stop us from having a good stay, though.

Perfectly fits the bill -- for two!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the beautifully-designed and tastefully-arranged small apartment at the rear of the pictured house. This lovely location, off the beaten track, was relaxing and conducive to spending every day possible at Acadia.

The apartment was spotless and many small amenities were thoughtfully provided: coffee and filters, popcorn and an extra toothbrush. The description is accurate ... it's about a half hour from the park, a lovely drive through many beautiful parts of the island. We were able to watch the lunar eclipse from a nearby pier and snap incredible shots.

The owner responded immediately to internet problems and replaced the router entirely. No Netflix problems thereafter. We enjoyed Thurston's Lobster Pound nearby, but also cooked in a lot -- all necessary pots and dishware were available. We would stay there again -- in a heartbeat.

Seniors Checking Off Bucket List Travel

  • 5 of 5

We selected this Cottage based in the description and pics. We were not disappointed in the Cottage. It was roomy and comfortable. All the basics were there, even coffee & tea to start the day. When we had questions, Robin was prompt to give us information. We loved being on Mount Desert Location, but the location and atmosphere in Bass Harbor was just what we were looking for. Lots of opportunity to explore and to just enjoy down time reading & relaxing.
