About Duane

Our names are Duane, Lyndon and Roxy (our Bichon Frisé Poodle mix). We live in San Diego. Duane grew up in Bristol, Vermont with Vermont ancestors from has far back as anyone can track and is an Architect. Ended up in San Diego in 1976 after going to College in Boston and Tempe, Arizona. My entire family still lives in the Bristol area. Lyndon is a 5th generation Californian on his fathers side and grew up in Bishop, California. On his mothers side, his Great Great Grandfather came across the country from Stowe, Vermont in a covered wagon in the mid 1800's and his Great Great Grandmother sailed from Delaware by way of the horn of South America about the same time and both settled in Independence, California where they met when it was still pretty much the wild west. He works in social services. Roxy is a rescue from an area close to the Mexican border. She has flown back to Vermont about 6 times so far and loves the rural living.

Duane purchased this house in 2006

Why Duane chose Lake Champlain Valley

Some of my fondest memories growing up in Vermont were the times spent at our Lake Champlain camp my family owned with 3 other families and remained my favorite place on earth. It was always a dream of mine to buy a place on the lake. We have spent much of our time on our bi-yearly visits making improvements on the house as well as enjoying time with family and friends and many wonderful gatherings at the house for birthdays, reunions, Holidays etc.

What makes this house unique

The end of the road location makes for a relaxing and quiet refuge amongst nature and the wonderful lake and mountain views from most of the house. These were very important in selecting a place on the lake. The limited number of camps along the lane also make it possible to interact with others enjoying this bucolic spot surrounded by quant villages, dairy farms and country roads. The close proximity to Middlebury and other towns in the area make for unlimited possibility for interesting things to do and see.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much!!! We had a wonderful visit and your home was perfect. Plenty of extras, very clean and just as described. We did a ton while we were there. Went on the Ben and Jerry's Tour, took a 10 mile bike ride through fields, woods, and back roads of Vermont, the men went to Lake Placid (which we had been to 5 years ago) while they women and kids went to Lake Dunmore, tubed down the Ausable Chasim in NY. The 4 adults went into Vergennes and had a fabulous dinner at Black Sheep Bistro, spent a day in Burlington and visited the campus of UVM (which our senior is seriously looking at attending :), took a boat cruise around Lake Champlain and last but not least spent 1/2 day at Shelbourne Farms. With all that we still were able to relax and enjoy your home. The wrap-around porch is the perfect place for playing games or having coffee in the morning and wine at night :). We watched plenty of movies (thanks for the wonderful selection) and fished and watched the dogs swim in the lake.

Again, thanks for your wonderful home and have a great rest of the summer.

Perfect family get-together

  • 5 of 5

After spending so much time checking out the photos, listing details and the video before arrival, walking into this house proved to be even better than expected. We were looking for a house to spend Thanksgiving together with four generations coming from Michigan, Boston, and Montreal, Canada and this turned out to be the perfect fit for our family.

The kitchen was well equipped and spacious enough for several people to prepare meals together while others are sitting in the comfy barstools at the kitchen island or relaxing in the living room just a few feet away. The set up was great for gathering everyone for meals at the table, conversations in the living room or watching TV downstairs in the comfy media room. When the baby and great-grandparents needed naps, the three bedrooms made it easy to everyone to spread out in comfort. There was a full bath on every level of the house - so convenient.

We mostly hung out right at the house but did venture out to Middlebury a couple of times to buy groceries from Shaw's, see the campus, and pick up fresh salmon and mussels from Costello's Market. It was also fun to visit the Morgan Horse Farm and watch the horses getting their exercise. There was even a farrier there that day and it was cool to watch him take care of the horses' hooves.

We would definitely like to come again and highly recommend it! Duane was quick to respond and very helpful. Thank you, Duane!

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family got together from three different states to enjoy a week together at this beautiful house. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to renting again! The house is spacious and well cared for. Our group of 6 adults and 1 child had plenty of space inside and out. The view from the lake is amazing. We spent our days fishing, swimming, and boating. We were fortunately to be able to meet Duane who was in town and he was a gracious host. We enjoyed the house so much we only ventured out once, having a lunch in Middlebury which is a wonderful little town. I hope we are able to return next summer!

Vermont stay

  • 5 of 5

Loved the location and views.. Kitchen well stocked and availability of pencils, scissors, etc. much appreciated. Met the needs of our family very well. Ease of access really great. Amenities superb. Beds were comfortable and stock of towels and bath provisions wonderful. Most grateful for games, puzzles, DVD's that were available for all age groups. But most of all I really thank the owner for all his accommodations and ease with which he enabled us to bring our families together. He is terrific to work with!!! As this is our second time staying here, we hope we can return soon for a third.

Ice Fishing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Your cabin was absolutely fantastic! All the personal touches, stereo system with CDs, great library of books, games and puzzles. The enormous king size bed was a nice touch to the large master bedroom. It was alittle to cold to enjoy the deck, but the view from every floor was breath taking. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Owner's Response: Thanks Deb for the great review and renting our lake house for your yearly ice fishing vacation (first one in Vermont and honored to have you stay at our place). So impressed with your sense of adventure. Good to hear you enjoyed your week on Lake Champlain. The house does make a great place to spend cozy times inside as well as time exploring Vermont in winter with fabulous views up the frozen lake. Thanks again. Duane
