Thank you soo much for sharing this lovely cabin with us for our 24th wedding anniversary. This is a peaceful, beautiful retreat which we enjoyed very much. My husband needed a stress relief and this truly ha been just that for him. Every time I couldn't find him I new to go right to the hot tub! Although it rained we still have enjoyed our time here just for the peace. We would love to return and have already talked about another trip here.
My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at the cabin and we could not have been more pleased with our choice! The cabin was beautiful, very clean and had everything we needed. Other than a quick trip to the grocery store (only a 15 minute drive) and spending the morning at Luray Caverns we stayed at the cabin and did not see another person the whole time! The solitude was a refreshing change to our sometimes hectic lives. We took the canoe out multiple times and caught fish, saw a deer by the bank, plenty of eagles and even a bear swimming across the river! We enjoyed cooking on the grill, making smores at the fire pit, soaking in the hot tub and just relaxing! Would definitely love to stay here again!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the cabin. The home is beautiful, clean, and quaint. The beds were great, the rooms and baths very nice, and the porch was good. We loved the location and especially seeing the cows when we came back in the evening. The river was lovely but the walk down is steep. Thank goodness for the 2 benches.
We did not find a good restaurant around but the closeness to Skykine Drive and Luray made up for that. We hiked then came home to cook a nice meal.
We stayed at the A Above the River Cabin during JMU graduation. The place was lovely and very cozy. We enjoyed a wonderful weekend ( minus the rain) !!
We would definitely stay here again!!!
This is a true destination cabin. Once you are there you do not need to leave. The cabin is every bit as nice as it looks in the pictures. Great seating areas inside and outside make it perfect for family time together. There is a path from the cabin down to the river. The area at the river is like your own private park. It is grassy and just beautiful. Canoes, kayaks, paddles, life vests, picnic table, dock, fire ring and fire wood can all be found by the river. It is beautiful. There is a sign that the property sits 900 feet from a 24foot drop dam on the river. The river is not rushing hard so my kids had no issues getting ashore in the canoe or kayak but this is something to know. We saw 2 bald eagles fly by the first morning we were at the cabin. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need. The kitchen knives are a bit dull and could use sharpening but that is my only negative in the kitchen. All kitchen appliances, casserole dishes, pots and pans, etc are available. The cabin is equipped with plenty of bath towels and towels to use at the hot tub on the deck. The cabin was also very clean and looked almost new. I will note one more negative. The beds were fairly uncomfortable and all in our group commented on this. I think most of the mattresses are in need of being replaced fairly soon. However, everything else was simply spectacular and I would return to this cabin for another stay even if the mattresses were the same. There are several attractions in the area if you do decide to venture away from the cabin. We enjoyed Wisteria Winery and Skyline Drive. We stopped by the local Walmart for general groceries and headed to Martins Mkt for a seafood department. We had a very enjoyable long Easter weekend at the cabin and would love to visit again in the future!
This cabin is absolutely adorable. I went with my husband and 15 month old son. We both just enjoyed getting away from it all and relaxing. The atmosphere of the cabin just makes you immediately carefree. Everything is so comfortable from the beds to the couches. We also had fun just exploring around the grounds. I highly recommend this to someone who wants the perfect cabin to just relax.
From the time we booked "A Above the River Cabin" to the moment we rounded the bend in the gravel road and the cabin came into sight we knew we had chosen the perfect spot. What a beautiful cabin nestled in the woods between the river and pasture but yet closed to so many attractions and amenities. From seclusion and privacy to Luray Caverns and Super Walmart to many close by towns and wineries and cradled in the Blue Ridge mountains it was near perfect. The beautiful interior décor and lay out of the cabin to everything a couple or family would need to have a wonderful vacation. Tucked into to nature and it's surrounding with little intrusion. From relaxing and de-stressing to sightseeing the area, from the cows in the pasture and deer that came to visit to the bear across the river and the bald eagle that came to fish with us on a couple of occasions. To enjoying the outdoor fire pit to spending the day fishing for sunfish in the "honey hole" just off the left side of the dock, to catching catfish, carp and small mouth bass and to the lone coyote who visited the river one night to howl as if to let us know he loved the property "A Above The River Cabin" also. There is so much to do surrounding this cabin and there is so little to do surrounding this cabin all depending on your frame of mind. The "A Above The River Cabin" seems to present itself as a place to relax, take a load off your feet, get back to really "vacationing", surround yourself with loved ones, and calm your soul. Many thanks to Becky and her husband for not only creating such a beautiful place but to allowing others into this "Slice of Nature" and creating our own memories.
