Walk up the brick stairs into the living room with hardwood floors, wood-burning fireplace, gorgeous deck, and a hot tub. A lush conversation area has been designed adjacent to a formal dining area in an octagon setting, again with beautiful views. Up several stairs is the kitchen with gas range and family room with large high definition TV, CD/DVD and wireless internet via satellite.
Through the kitchen toward the front of the home is one bedroom with queen-sized bed and full bathroom with walk in shower. There is also a laundry room on this level. On the 2nd floor are master suite, sitting and writing area (Great Room) with queen-sized sofabed, third bedroom in tower location, and full bath with huge tile tub/shower combination.
The fourth bedroom is up a spiral iron staircase to the open loft, and is set up as a sort of meditation area. It features a double/full-sized bed, Japanese style soaking tub, water closet and sink.
The location of this home is unique in that is lies in the middle of 3 wine growing regions - Calistoga/Sonoma/Napa, Healdsburg, and the Russian River Valley. There are literally dozens of wineries within 15 minutes of the home. The Russian River is nearby as well for a canoe trip, fishing, tubing or floating, and Healdsburg is just a quick 20 minute drive north for great shopping, wine tasting and gourmet restaurants.
Mark West Retreat is located less than two miles away from the Safari West animal park.
Four Bedrooms: 3 queen-size beds and 1 double/full-size bed.
Wireless Internet via satellite.
We originally looked for a property in the Russian River area and fell in love with the unique design of this home and the beautiful views. We enjoy visiting from the mid-west and plan to retire in this area.
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
Views, access to Calistoga, Russian River, Healdsburg and Santa Rosa -- all within 15 minutes.
We were here for a bachelorette party - 8 of us - 7 of which flew hundreds of miles and had never been to wine country. That didn't matter - sure the vineyards are absolutely beautiful and the wine is delicious and all. But upon arrival, we wanted to spend a majority of our long weekend at this house, spending time with each other on the porch and drinking local wine in the hottub overlooking the breathtaking views. The interior was spacious and perfectly accommodating for 8. The haul up the mountain was tough for our economy rental, but worth it. Additionally, albeit some 'limo friendly' confirmations in a guestbook, our limo company did not make the trek up the mountain, so we had to hike down and back up after a wonderful dinner at Goose and Gander in St. Helena (highly recommended). We're also very confused about the bath tub / cubby / sofa bed in the loft. Other than that, this place was wonderful and we would return in an instant. The staff from the rental company - Russian River Realty - were awesome and very detailed and were a piece of cake to work with.
I stayed here with a group of friends running the Napa marathon. The house was incredibly nice, large, and is on the top of a very scenic peak. This rental is perfect for larger group getaways, as well as friends wanting to visit the nearby wineries.
We had a very enjoyable stay. There were 8 of us staying at this spectacular house. The views were amazing and the facility was clean and perfect for our group. Would highly recommend this property for your next vacation!!!!!!!!
This home was beautiful, identical to the pictures on line and definitely a retreat away from it all. The views were stunning, it's very quiet yet close to all of the wineries and town. The rental process was simple and seamless. My coworkers and I spend 3 days here after a conference and enjoyed the house immensely. We were able to visit lots of wineries in Sonoma as well as Napa and also enjoyed spending time in the town of Healdsburg which was only a 20 minute ride.
There is a very steep winding road to get up to the house therefore I do recommend arriving before dark to familiarize yourself with the road but the views are worth the trip up the mountain. The Hot tub is perfectly situation to capture the views off the deck. The only negative was the dishwasher was broken and we weren't made aware of it. I would definitely return to this property in the future.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Mark West Retreat. Beautifully designed home and well decorated. Our group consisted of 3 couples and we had more than enough space in the home. Very secluded with beautiful views to the west from the deck. Loved the hot tub and sitting out at night looking at the stars. Convenient to Santa Rosa and the Sonoma Valley. Would definitely return.
The rental is handled by a real estate management company which was easy to deal with. The home was accurately described.
Minor cons: There is a short (< 1 mile) drive up a steep and windy road to get to the property. No big deal for us, but may want to arrive before dark the first night to familiarize yourself. Had some difficulty finding switches to control some of the lights and one of the upstairs ceiling fans did not function in the tower bedroom which was a small nuisance as the upstairs was fairly warm since temps were in the low 90s when we visited. However, evening cooled down considerably. The dishwasher was also not working when we were there, which we were informed of the day before arrival.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Mark West Retreat! The views were amazing and we enjoyed the back deck area in the morning and use of the hot tub at night. We traveled with other couples and the house was perfect for each couple to have a bathroom and privacy. The home is remarkably designed, very tastefully decorated as well as very comfortable. The road up to the home is very steep, recommend arriving before dark. We would choose this home again if in the area.
Within 10-15 minutes of numerous wineries and vineyards.
