About Christa

After quitting our own business (Mark) and corporate job (me) and then selling our home with everything in it, we travelled the US in our motorhome for what came to be 6 wonderful years! We drove our motorhome to Joshua Tree in 2004 to visit friends and never left. It is a beautiful place!

Christa purchased this house in 2005

Why Christa chose California Desert

It's seclusion but close proximity to town makes this a lovely location. We love that it sits on a dead end street, never having to see or hear through traffic. Your neighbors are the rocks and mountains this home sits up against. Peace and quiet..

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us experience your house. You have excellent taste in everything from fence design to dishes. We felt right at home. It was so great to sit on the patio in the morning and evenings. We loved cooking in the kitchen with every gadget we could need. This house really has everything to make a perfect weekend where all you need is a trip to the grocery store and some good sneakers. We loved hiking in the park and coming home to our Joshua Tree house away from home. We loved it!

An Amazing Writing Retreat for Two/Three

  • 5 of 5

My writing pal and I visited another one of Moonlight Mesa Retreats; our first stay was at the Roca Vista (also wonderful). But this place blew our mind. A stone's throw from Roca Vista, this comfortable, well-appointed, and wired cabin provided all we needed: two bedrooms, bath, hot tub!, several outdoor sitting areas (all of which we enjoyed), not to mention the scenic surround that inspires star gazing, quiet reflection, rock-reading, and writing. (There's a dog formation in the rocks behind the cabin; can you see him?) The owners' unique touch are discernible here as in their Roca Vista property; their cabins are rustic with contemporary appointments - including just about everything you'll need to cook inside or order in, play, view, read, or listen. It's also about 5 minutes from town. I can't say enough about this place. Oh, but wait I can. A rattle snake visited us on the second day of our nine day visit! I saw it approach behind the safety of the glass sliding door. We sent a text to the owner and within 20 minutes got to witness a fearless and humane relocation of said rattler. We enjoyed our time thereafter, secure in the outside and interior spaces of this well-conditioned and appointed place (with tons of privacy). GO! You'll enjoy yourself.

Owner's Response: What a lovely review- thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us! I'm happy that even with the warm weather, you made yourselves comfortable. The views from El Coyote are mesmerizing and a great way to forget all of the stresses. Thanks for letting us know about the rattler- I know not everyone understands the need to humanly relocate these beautiful creatures but they were here long before us and do a great deal in keeping our rodent population down:) We hope to see you again on your next writing retreat!

Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very nice, cozy, and comfortable. The owners thought of nearly everything you would want during a short stay there. It is located at a secluded and nicer part of Joshua Tree. You can even hike a bit up a small mountain behind the property. The entrance to the park is very close which makes it very convenient. The property was clean and well maintained as described. Information about the surroundings was provided, which was also convenient. We enjoyed our stay and recommend this vacation home!

We loved it.

  • 5 of 5

We were very comfortable and very happy in this lovely house.

It's beautiful inside and out, and the location is perfect (quiet and removed, but close enough to town and the northern park entrances). It was particularly useful to us that the kitchen is very well equipped with good knives and a wide assortment of utensils and pots and pans.

Christa and Mark are perfect hosts - great communicators and available in an instant if you need them. Thank you so much!

We had a wonderful holiday.

An exceptionally comfortable, clean and relaxing home, all with breathtaking desert views!

  • 5 of 5

This little retreat was an incredible find for us!!! It is just made for relaxing, with a fun kitchen to cook in, a livingroom perfect to curl up in, so many little homey touches, beautifully decorated and so warm, clean and inviting. It is just like the photos in the HomeAway website except it is impossible to capture just how beautiful the location is and the unique ambiance. From the spectacular sunrises on the front porch, wrapped in cozy throw blankets (a whole stack is provided in the living room) to exploring and hiking up the hills behind with breathtaking views, to long soaks in the hot tub under the stars....we had a wonderful 4 day stay! The town of Joshua Tree is very friendly and highly recommend the Indian food at Sam's! The Saturday Farmer's Market is not to be missed too! With Joshua Tree National Park so close by...well, the location is ideal! We loved being surrounded by the charming cacti garden full of hummingbirds and surrounded by views of the mountains in the distance! We had a holiday that we will always remember....thank-you so much Christa for sharing this special place!

Perfection.

  • 5 of 5

This house was beautiful, comfortable, well equipped and overall, nothing but class. All five of my family members were delighted with the accommodations at El Coyote. We loved every minute of our stay. The proprietors thought of everything to make our stay truly one of the top two places we've ever booked for a vacation.
