About Garland Park:
Dog-friendly Garland Ranch Regional Park in Carmel Valley is a popular spot for leisure hiking. Breathtaking views lie around every corner of this 4,462-acre park, with trails varying from easy to strenuous. Notable features at Garland Ranch Regional Park include the Carmel River, Garzas Creek, a redwood canyon and a charming waterfall. Historic buildings dot Garland Ranch Regional Park, allowing visitors to experience Carmel Valley as it once was.
This park is home to a variety of landscapes that occur at elevations from 200 to 2000 feet. From the willow covered banks of the Carmel River through the cottonwood-sycamore stands of the old floodplain. Atop the northern crest of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the trails encounter open oak savannas and spectacular vistas. Along the way, you will travel through maple-filled canyons, dense oak woodlands, and thick stands of chaparral. Garzas Creek gently bisects the park and provides a peaceful, shaded trail that reaches a secluded side canyon of redwoods.
Throughout the park there are reminders of Carmel Valley's past: Rumsen Indian habitation sites; homestead, hunting and logging remains; livestock trails, ponds and springs; and Rancho Don Juan.
Day use activities include hiking, photography, horseback riding, jogging, walking, bird watching, painting and simple solitude, and limited mountain bike riding in the Cooper Ranch area.
Our family loves our hikes in Garland Park with miles of trails, vistas and wildlife.
Our enjoy using the swimming pool in the summer with views into Carmel Valley. The remote feeling and natural setting yet only 10 minutes from a local Safeway, great wineries, golf courses, and restaurants is the best of both worlds.
Great house high up in the hills overlooking Carmel Valley. Large, comfortable and very attractive. - nicely furnished and with a stunning view.
The house is in great condition, clean tidy, and ready to receive families. As the owner points out you do need to be mindful of the children dashing around unsupervised as they can inadvertently fall off things, but I characterize that as all 'normal stuff'. We had three inquisitive and excitable children wanting to explore, so use your common sense, and don't let them stray out of sight. The house has the most spectacular views, I mean the sort of views you can just stare at for hours. The drive up to the house is steep but not really a bother, the faint hearted may grumble a little, but the destination views would be suffering the grumbles for! Overall we had a great time for 4 days, exploring the local region. The pool and pool cover do a good job of keeping the water a nice temperature for swimming, something I was surprised at given the pool is huge! The owner is attentive and swift to respond/help with anything you may need, which won't be a lot! I would highly recommend this property.
Absolutely loved staying here! The house is perched high up so be prepared to arrive during daylight to navigate the private drive up the hill, as Larry recommends. Pool was amazing, a wonderful 86 degree water temperature heated by solar power, even though the nights are cool, and day temps were only in the high 60's and low 70's. Makes swimming so enjoyable when you don't have a chill. Kids loved it. Beautiful views from all the rooms inside the house as well.
Landscaping is lovely at the home, we spent many hours sitting and enjoying the view. Took several hikes at Garland Ranch which can be accessed directly from the home, which we appreciate. We like to rent homes where you can spill out of the house and not have to drive to be entertained.
Plenty of yummy restaurants to chose from, Cafe Rustica being a favorite--make reservations. Easy grocery store options as well.
Highly recommend staying here in the Valley where the fog lifts everyday and there are sunny skies. Carmel itself was socked in every day in the fog, people wearing coats, but not us!! A few miles inland is WELL worth it. We will definitely be back!
I spied this house on a hike 13 years ago, saying to myself, "the people who live there are so luckyl" Little did I know, I'd see this house on VRBO all these years later, and we were able to share a little bit of paradise.
This place was absolutely fantastic for our family. The large pool overlooking the Carmel Valley is where we spent most of the time on site but the house is well appointed with plenty of room. This place is Private with a capital P and a really great place to get away.
I am not sure you really need anything more than this.
This home has absolutely stunning mountain views of perfect golden California hills. The setting is serene, quiet and perfect for relaxing by the pool or having a glass of wine on the deck at sunset. As we arrived we were greeted by a family of deer grazing in the front yard, so lovely! The house is well laid out with a nice living room, dining room and kitchen in the front and bedrooms running back along a long hallway. It was perfect for children taking naps in the back without being disturbed by noise in the front of the house. There was a wonderful children's bedroom with toys and a play area that was perfect for our little ones.
Some have mentioned internet access and cell signals -- we had perfect wifi and usable cell service on both Verizon and Sprint. The drive to the top of the hill is steep and winding, that's why the house has such beautiful views, but it isn't a drive that you'll likely want to do multiple times a day. It was a reasonable drive to attend a wedding at nearby Holman Ranch and is also close to a shopping center with a Safeway grocery store and gas station. As the owner made very clear ahead of time, the pool is not fenced in but it is also not an issue from the main house as there are steps leading down, so as long as you keep an eye on your children there is no danger.
All in all this was a lovely place to stay and I would highly recommend it.
The property has the most amazing views. You can sit on the deck for hours just taking in the breathtaking scenery and watching the deer come thru the yard.
There are lemon trees that are great for making your favorite beverages while you set in the hot tub or at the pool. Quite a few everyday herbs growing around the house excellent for those who love fresh cooking and a kitchen that has everything you can think of for anything you might want to cook or prepare.
Furniture is super comfy if all you want to do is chill out and get away from the hectic pace of most of our lives.
There were a few comments on reviews about the road up to the house but it is only the first time you drive it that gets you. If you didn't go up that winding steep road you wouldn't have those amazing views from almost every room in the house.
The only complaint I found with the house was that there is no place in the master bedroom to hang clothes up and for us who don't iron (which they supply) was a little strange. Not a deal breaker since it has everything else you could ask for. Super comfy bed. You go to sleep looking at the the lights from the town below and wake to awesome views everyday.
We stayed 5 days and so wished would were able to stay longer.
