About Garland Park:
Dog-friendly Garland Ranch Regional Park in Carmel Valley is a popular spot for leisure hiking. Breathtaking views lie around every corner of this 4,462-acre park, with trails varying from easy to strenuous. Notable features at Garland Ranch Regional Park include the Carmel River, Garzas Creek, a redwood canyon and a charming waterfall. Historic buildings dot Garland Ranch Regional Park, allowing visitors to experience Carmel Valley as it once was.
This park is home to a variety of landscapes that occur at elevations from 200 to 2000 feet. From the willow covered banks of the Carmel River through the cottonwood-sycamore stands of the old floodplain. Atop the northern crest of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the trails encounter open oak savannas and spectacular vistas. Along the way, you will travel through maple-filled canyons, dense oak woodlands, and thick stands of chaparral. Garzas Creek gently bisects the park and provides a peaceful, shaded trail that reaches a secluded side canyon of redwoods.
Throughout the park there are reminders of Carmel Valley's past: Rumsen Indian habitation sites; homestead, hunting and logging remains; livestock trails, ponds and springs; and Rancho Don Juan.
Day use activities include hiking, photography, horseback riding, jogging, walking, bird watching, painting and simple solitude, and limited mountain bike riding in the Cooper Ranch area.
Our family loves our hikes in Garland Park with miles of trails, vistas and wildlife.
Our enjoy using the swimming pool in the summer with views into Carmel Valley. The remote feeling and natural setting yet only 10 minutes from a local Safeway, great wineries, golf courses, and restaurants is the best of both worlds.
This home has absolutely stunning mountain views of perfect golden California hills. The setting is serene, quiet and perfect for relaxing by the pool or having a glass of wine on the deck at sunset. As we arrived we were greeted by a family of deer grazing in the front yard, so lovely! The house is well laid out with a nice living room, dining room and kitchen in the front and bedrooms running back along a long hallway. It was perfect for children taking naps in the back without being disturbed by noise in the front of the house. There was a wonderful children's bedroom with toys and a play area that was perfect for our little ones.
Some have mentioned internet access and cell signals -- we had perfect wifi and usable cell service on both Verizon and Sprint. The drive to the top of the hill is steep and winding, that's why the house has such beautiful views, but it isn't a drive that you'll likely want to do multiple times a day. It was a reasonable drive to attend a wedding at nearby Holman Ranch and is also close to a shopping center with a Safeway grocery store and gas station. As the owner made very clear ahead of time, the pool is not fenced in but it is also not an issue from the main house as there are steps leading down, so as long as you keep an eye on your children there is no danger.
All in all this was a lovely place to stay and I would highly recommend it.
The property has the most amazing views. You can sit on the deck for hours just taking in the breathtaking scenery and watching the deer come thru the yard.
There are lemon trees that are great for making your favorite beverages while you set in the hot tub or at the pool. Quite a few everyday herbs growing around the house excellent for those who love fresh cooking and a kitchen that has everything you can think of for anything you might want to cook or prepare.
Furniture is super comfy if all you want to do is chill out and get away from the hectic pace of most of our lives.
There were a few comments on reviews about the road up to the house but it is only the first time you drive it that gets you. If you didn't go up that winding steep road you wouldn't have those amazing views from almost every room in the house.
The only complaint I found with the house was that there is no place in the master bedroom to hang clothes up and for us who don't iron (which they supply) was a little strange. Not a deal breaker since it has everything else you could ask for. Super comfy bed. You go to sleep looking at the the lights from the town below and wake to awesome views everyday.
We stayed 5 days and so wished would were able to stay longer.
We stayed at this house recently, and it was an incredible time! We were two families of 4, both with young kids and the house couldn't be set up any better. Everything was very clean and new, the pool was incredible, there are lots of surprises for the kids like a trampoline and toys and games. The view is remarkable, we enjoyed eating out on the deck each night and watching the sun go down. Then we got dramatic views of the stars! It's a really special location, we used to live in Carmel but never knew this house was up on the hill, it's totally unique. We hope to go back many times, it was truly wonderful. The owner is great, really responsive and accommodating. I've already recommended this house to friends, it's just really great. If you are considering this place for a weekend or longer, and it's available, do it you wont regret it. Thanks for sharing your house with us!
We had a great time in this house with our two young girls, and our mother. Everyone enjoyed the amazing views, the pool and hot tub. Our girls loved the kids' bedroom, the swings, the games, and seeing animals out in nature. Like others, we spent most of our weekend on the property, and found the perfect balance of fun and relaxation. Thank you!
We were 3 couples who stayed here for 6 nights. First things first, the pictures do not do this place justice. The kitchen is updated, light and bright, the living room/dining room is a great open concept and each bedroom is peaceful and private. But the star here is the pool. This is, by far, the largest pool we've seen in a home. The pool and the pool surrounding were perfect for relaxing, reading a book and enjoying some R&R. The home is beautiful.
The bedrooms were great. Very large, very private. Each (except the bunk bed room) had a door onto the large, wrap-around deck. The bathrooms were perfect (2 full and one 1/2 bath). In the photos, the kitchen appears dark and out dated, but we were pleasantly surprised to find it to a a large, updated kitchen. Perfect for cooking and chatting with those in the living room/dining room. We loved the kitchen table. It's a large wooden table. It speaks of family dinners.
The location is great, however, it is up a VERY STEEP and WINDING road. Best to arrive during the day.
The only downside is the wifi. They have wifi, but it doesn't work well (which I did not mind). If you absolutely need it, you might want to inquire first about how well it is working.
I would recommend this house to anyone. I have a few minor suggestions for the owners (non of which should deter you from renting this house!):
1. New bed linens. The bed skirt in the master had holes in it and the bed spreads in the twin bedroom had holes in it.
2. New mattresses for the twin bedrooms.
3. New couches. The living room is so perfect for relaxing, chatting, playing a game, however, the couches were well worn. They had holes in them, stuffing coming out, the padding in the cushions were gone. PLEASE new couches.
4. A deep clean. The property is clean, don't get me wrong, however, I think their cleaning crew needs to put a bit more elbow grease in. We lifted up a couch and were shocked at how much dust and stuff was under it. It wasn't from just a weeks worth, this was months worth building up.
5. New area rugs. We dropped a binky on a rug and picked it up and it was covered in hair and crumbs. Again, the cleaning crew needs to work a bit harder.
We had a multigenerational family vacation- from grandparents in their 70s to 3 kids (age 16, 13 and 10). We had every intention to go off property to see some of Carmel, but were enjoying the home and pool so much that we didn't need to. The pool and hot tub offered countless hours of fun and relaxation. The views from the porch were spectacular in the morning and evening. We also enjoyed hiking just off the property. The only thing to be aware of is the steep drive up to the house- not for the faint hearted driver!! Finally, we hired a spectacular photographer- Chris Schmauh at GoodEye Photography to come to the house. I highly recommend having professional photos taken on this beautiful lot.
