Come enjoy a memorable vacation in a beautiful tropical setting. Mika Taki is an exceptionally lovely large home with two acres of tropical splendor, incuding a waterfall and pond for swimming. The property is private and peaceful.

Mika Taki is constantly updated. This includes high speed and wireless Internet service, and cable TV. Outdoors you will find a dining area, a large deck lounging area, a luxurious Jacuzzi, lovely gardens and paths to various water features of the property. There is also a screened-in lanai. We have created a mini private oasis for you - yet it lies less than 2 minutes from downtown Hilo.

Here is the layout of the house: 4 Bedrooms – all 4 ensuite, each with its own private bathroom. The master suite has a King size canopy bed and a beautiful bathroom with an ofuro (a Japanese soak tub.) The other three bedrooms all contain Queen size beds, each with a distinctive style and beauty of their own. The living room, which is very large, contains a comfy sitting area grouped around the lava rock fireplace. There are many Japanese decorations, including antiques. The floors are eucalyptus wood with oriental area rugs to compliment the furnishings. The gourmet kitchen is a dream. The kitchen comes fully equipped and stocked. All you need to do is bring your own fresh foods and beverages. Completing the layout is the TV/media room adjacent to the living room. This room also has a wet bar. Just outside is a screened-in lanai where you can sit and listen to the waterfalls below. A fifth half bath is provided, as well as a laundry room with washer and dryer. From every room, you view the towering palm trees, the lush flowers and the abundant tropical vegetation. The home is on one level.

**Mika Taki is in a residential neighborhood and to be good neighbors we do not rent the house for large parties. We do not allow more than a total of 10 people on the property at any one time

About Sara/Jamie

We met in Hawaii, fell in love in Hawaii....and the rest is history. Now we get to share our good fortune with guests from around the world.

Why Sara/Jamie chose Hilo

We are happy to have a wonderful home in Hawaii, and we love the Big Island, its many sights and its friendly people.

Hilo gives one the chance to get a feel of the 'real Hawaii.' The Farmers' Market in town is a riot of color from the many exotic fruits and flowers. There's just a special feeling one comes away with after exploring this unique area.

Guestbook comments from the manager

It provided all the necessities, plus great aesthetics. We created lots of memories to last a lifetime during our stay. Thanks again! Mahalo!

Ok but needs thorough cleaning.

  • 3 of 5

The place could have been nicer if:1) needed a good cleaning. 2) bedding should be upgraded. 3) Parking very difficult. We enjoyed the privacy. The waterfall is inaccessible. This should be explained as it is advertised as being as being part of the visual paradise.

Tropical Haven

  • 4 of 5

Overall, my family had a great experience at this home. Very spacious and many areas to hang out in. The area was so nice and quiet. The neighbors were so friendly and helped us find the property. The kitchen did have dishes and utensils. They did have pots and pans but a lot of them were scratched and felt a little unhealthy/unsafe to use. We ended up buying our own pan. There was one halfway used paper towel that we used up and couldn't find another one to replace with. This is our first experience with HomeAway, so we weren't sure if this is "normal." There was plenty of toilet paper and generous amount of laundry detergent. The home provides "basic soaps," which means that no shampoo was provided. Again, not sure if this is something that is typical of HomeAway, but just to let future guests know to bring or buy on their way in. We went down to the waterfall that is right outside the door. It is a little bit of a steep hike down and I think this is when we all got bitten by mosquitoes. I imagined this to be swimmable, and I think it is supposed to be, but it doesn't look like it should be swam in. It is more of a pond... Also, no area to sit or put things down. Another thing that I did not know of Hilo homes (or maybe all island homes?) is that the house is entirely open. The windows are all basically open with screens. There are these plantation shutter type things on the outside that you can "close" but there is no seal. We traveled with an infant and elderly who are used to climate control, so again, this is just to let future guests know in case they want to pack an extra blanket if they get cold. Also, there are geckos that enter the home and wander around. We saw previous notes of dead cockroaches randomly found and we also witnessed that. The house is well kept by all means, I think it is from the fact that this home is built in a rainforest. Just again, warning. We were overall pleased and did not have any regrets booking this home. Would recommend to others.

We were a group of family members. From 2 years old to 62 years old. We absolutely had a wonderful time and an amazing stay in this lovely Japanese style home. After spending 10 days in a beach house on Oahu, we wanted to explore the experience of being in a tropical rainforest.

We were greeted with a bowl of treats to include macadamia nuts and cookies, coffee and quava juice. What a lovely surprise!!!. The kitchen was well stocked with beautiful dishes, utensils, cookware, spices and condiments, baggies, etc. The place was absolutely immaculate which was a treat after the last place we rented.

We were well informed throughout the whole rental process with great internet communications, information on the desk at the house, and follow-up e-mails after the stay.

The house is lovely. It was such a neat experience waking up to the view outside the windows. Being that the windows are from floor to ceiling, it gave almost a feeling of luxury camping. We all enjoyed having our own bathrooms and private spaces. I loved the floor plan.

It was nice to have the beach towels as we couldn't keep up on getting our own dried. And the laundry area was wonderful with detergent available.

I can't say enough good things about this place to make it justice. I would go back there in a heartbeat. Our whole group was excited about the house and the stay.

Perfect Hilo Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Mika Taki is the perfect Hilo getaway. It's a large house, perfectly well-appointed with beautiful, comfortable beds, linens, kitchen - the whole works. The outdoor space is lovely and the walk to the waterfall, while challenging was a lot of fun. We were only sad that the grill is old and rusty and didn't throw off enough heat to be useful but beyond that it was a perfect place to stay. The location is absolutely lovely, close to town, and easy to use as a jumping off place for island exploration. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else next time we visit Hilo.

Great getaway spot! Close to everything...

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at the Mika Taki house. The home was luxurious, well laid out with every possible amenity. After the 1st night you hardly notice the frogs nightly cacaphony. The waterfall trail was a bit dangerous, and hard to get in the water without slipping on the rocks. Very beautiful and lush environment. We would stay again if we ever get the chance!
