Overview

Alaska House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

There's a magical feeling when you're at Coho Beach House -- one guest referred to it as 'The Healing House.'

Seeing marine life swim right under the deck; enjoying the weather and views (rain or shine) from any room; watching the bird activity, the passing boats and sea planes all lend to the pleasures of this home away from home.

This spot is known for having the best sunset views around. And if it's stormy, just cuddle up, listen to the waves, and watch from the warmth of the house. Or, if the water is calm, there are also kayaks available for paddling around Ward Cove and the nearby Channel Islands

This is the perfect place to relax, have a little romance, or if you are looking for outdoor activities like fishing or hiking, the beach house is just a short drive from anywhere on the island.

Even though we have a minimum stay, if you see a 'window' of fewer nights available, please feel free to call or email us about a shorter stay.

Suitability:
  • Long-term Renters Welcome
  • Minimum Age Limit for Renters
  • children welcome

About Maura Odell

Friends for 40 years, partners in Coho Beach House since 2004. The Odells and the Hooks dreamed of living near the water for years, and when they became owners of this property it was a dream come true. Both couples live on 'The Point' by the beach house, and are available if needed, but also respect the privacy of guests. Three are life-long Alaskans, and the fourth has been here since 1979, so this is home for us.

Maura Odell purchased this house in 2004

Why Maura Odell chose Alaska

The location of the beach house is known in the community as having the best sunsets in the area.

The beach house was built in the late '40's or early '50's and had been well used and loved by many, but it was in dire need of repair.

We considered demolishing it, but instead rebuilt it from the pilings to the roof. The interior layout remains the same, but it's much more comfortable now.

It was truly a labor of love, and we love to share its charm with our guests.

What makes this house unique

Outstanding wildlife viewing at your door. Watch the tide come and go; seals, sea lions, and the occasional whales swim by; and eagles in flight from the windows and deck at Coho Beach House.

The stairs to the beach offer easy access for tide pool exploring, and there are two kayaks available for paddling around Ward Cove and the nearby Channel Islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our adventure to Ketchikan. Your guesthouse is so warm and cozy, it was nice to come “home” to at the end of the day. It has been so relaxing and awesome. We were able to see some wonderful wildlife while sitting at the house such as Killer Whales (thanks to Dan for the call), seals, starfish and a few Bald Eagles. Our timing for our trip did limit our ability to enjoy many of the tourist attractions, but being able to sit and look at such a wonderful view made up for it since I’m not sure we would have wanted to be gone a lot anyway.Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of heaven. We will be back.

Vacation Cabin

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cabin! We really enjoyed our vacation there. We got a chance to see and film a couple of killer whales coming through and the bald eagles woke us up on more than one occasion in the mornings. Couldn't have asked for a finer wake up call!!

This was our first visit to Alaska and we hope to return. Thanks for letting us stay in your sweet cabin!

My son and I came up to Ketchikan for a week of fishing and fun. We loved the beachhouse and all that had to offer. The house is comfortable, immaculate and offers incredible views. A definite Must Return spot!

Best vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

COHO beach house was clean, well kept, and had the most amazing view ever. We were able to see many bald eagles and an occasional seal swim by the property during our time there. We also saw several Sitka Blacktail deer on the island and saw 4 or 5 black bear on our last day there. We enjoyed kayaking around Ward Cove. It was fun watching the tides change, watching the cruise ships pass by, and watching the gorgeous sunsets every night. We would go back in a heartbeat and I would recommend this property to anybody. The owners were very hospitable and treated us like friends or family while we were in Ketchikan. The excursion we took with Allen Marine to the Misty Fjords National Monument was spectacular. There are many great hiking trails close to the property with breathtaking views. We enjoyed the Dude Mountain, Deer Mountain, and Lunch Falls trails the best. Our favorite restaurants in the area were Bar Harbor, the Alaska Fish House, and the Ocean View Restaurant. We could not have had a better experience. Wonderful owners and a great vacation. Simply amazing!

Breathtaking memories!

  • 5 of 5

You fall in love with this piece of heaven! The pictures are beautiful but once you get there, it's even better! The glass windows in every room allow you to never miss a moment of the scenery the Coho provides. Very clean, kayaking was fun, the amenities were great, heaters in every room if you need it, owners were very helpful and gave you your privacy at the same time, plenty of kitchen supplies, nice having a washer and dryer, well insulated, board games provided were fun, and Joe gave us great advice on some hiking trails. Our family can't wait to go back again!

Unimaginable beauty

  • 5 of 5

We visited this house with another couple. It was absolutely breathtaking. We watched the tide come in and out. The walk along the beach was fruitful for seaglass treasures and spotting starfish. We picked berries from the garden to put in our pancakes. The service from our hosts was amazing as well. The blender went out and they had an alternate to us within minutes. We were minutes to town and the grocery. We cooked our fresh catch of the day almost nightly.

The view from every room in the house is by far the best.

Check the spices and supplies at the house before you shop. So much is provided, already.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We still make the fabulous cilantro jalapeno sauce recipe you gave us for our fish tacos!

Especially in May and June, the eagles and seals are around daily. Later in the summer you can pick fresh red and blue huckleberries just outside the kitchen for your pancakes.

Year round beach combing and tidepool exploring. Kayak into Ward cove to see the seals, or cruise aroung the Channel Islands.
