Overview

Alaska House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

There's a magical feeling when you're at Coho Beach House -- one guest referred to it as 'The Healing House.'

Seeing marine life swim right under the deck; enjoying the weather and views (rain or shine) from any room; watching the bird activity, the passing boats and sea planes all lend to the pleasures of this home away from home.

This spot is known for having the best sunset views around. And if it's stormy, just cuddle up, listen to the waves, and watch from the warmth of the house. Or, if the water is calm, there are also kayaks available for paddling around Ward Cove and the nearby Channel Islands

This is the perfect place to relax, have a little romance, or if you are looking for outdoor activities like fishing or hiking, the beach house is just a short drive from anywhere on the island.

Even though we have a minimum stay, if you see a 'window' of fewer nights available, please feel free to call or email us about a shorter stay.

Suitability:
  • Long-term Renters Welcome
  • children welcome

About Maura Odell

Friends for 40 years, partners in Coho Beach House since 2004. The Odells and the Hooks dreamed of living near the water for years, and when they became owners of this property it was a dream come true. Both couples live on 'The Point' by the beach house, and are available if needed, but also respect the privacy of guests. Three are life-long Alaskans, and the fourth has been here since 1979, so this is home for us.

Maura Odell purchased this house in 2004

Why Maura Odell chose Alaska

The location of the beach house is known in the community as having the best sunsets in the area.

The beach house was built in the late '40's or early '50's and had been well used and loved by many, but it was in dire need of repair.

We considered demolishing it, but instead rebuilt it from the pilings to the roof. The interior layout remains the same, but it's much more comfortable now.

It was truly a labor of love, and we love to share its charm with our guests.

What makes this house unique

Outstanding wildlife viewing at your door. Watch the tide come and go; seals, sea lions, and the occasional whales swim by; and eagles in flight from the windows and deck at Coho Beach House.

The stairs to the beach offer easy access for tide pool exploring, and there are two kayaks available for paddling around Ward Cove and the nearby Channel Islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our adventure to Ketchikan. Your guesthouse is so warm and cozy, it was nice to come “home” to at the end of the day. It has been so relaxing and awesome. We were able to see some wonderful wildlife while sitting at the house such as Killer Whales (thanks to Dan for the call), seals, starfish and a few Bald Eagles. Our timing for our trip did limit our ability to enjoy many of the tourist attractions, but being able to sit and look at such a wonderful view made up for it since I’m not sure we would have wanted to be gone a lot anyway.Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of heaven. We will be back.

Vacation Cabin

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cabin! We really enjoyed our vacation there. We got a chance to see and film a couple of killer whales coming through and the bald eagles woke us up on more than one occasion in the mornings. Couldn't have asked for a finer wake up call!!

This was our first visit to Alaska and we hope to return. Thanks for letting us stay in your sweet cabin!

Unimaginable beauty

  • 5 of 5

We visited this house with another couple. It was absolutely breathtaking. We watched the tide come in and out. The walk along the beach was fruitful for seaglass treasures and spotting starfish. We picked berries from the garden to put in our pancakes. The service from our hosts was amazing as well. The blender went out and they had an alternate to us within minutes. We were minutes to town and the grocery. We cooked our fresh catch of the day almost nightly.

The view from every room in the house is by far the best.

Check the spices and supplies at the house before you shop. So much is provided, already.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We still make the fabulous cilantro jalapeno sauce recipe you gave us for our fish tacos!

comfort with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in this beautiful waterfront home and it was every bit as wonderful as we remembered. The first day was bright and sunny and we stayed on the patio enjoying the gorgeous sunset. The next day was cloudy and we hiked ward lake, lunch trail, and perseverance and had a fantastic time. We saw beautiful eagles everywhere. After that, we were treated to Ketchikan rain, but that didn't slow us down. This home has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds and linens are fantastic. The home is spotless. I love being able to use the washing machine and dryer. You are surrounded by wonderful views. I truly never wanted to leave. I know I will be back!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you had the Ketchikan spirit and got out on the trails even though the sun wasn't shining! Sorry we didn't get a chance to say hello this time.

Perfect Ending

  • 5 of 5

We had traveled for seven weeks in Alaska and chose this beach house for the perfect ending to an awesome adventure. Never have we had the pleasure of having nearly all glass on three sides of a house, where we could see the water and the gorgeous sunsets each day! Kayaking early one morning when the water was calm was heavenly. It was indeed, a perfect ending!

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect vacation! The house has the most incredible views. I could not wait for sunset each night. I loved watching the cruise ships go by and seeing the seals swim around the deck during high tide. The house had everything we needed so like others have said; go to the house first before going to the store. Went fishing and caught over 45 pounds of Coho Salmon! The owners are wonderful, thanks Maura for the delicious salmon recipe. It is our favorite one now! Saw black bears at Herring Cove and took a float plane to a lake and caught cutthroat trout. And then coming home to the beautiful home with the amazing view. Our favorite vacation ever! We will be back!

Especially in May and June, the eagles and seals are around daily. Later in the summer you can pick fresh red and blue huckleberries just outside the kitchen for your pancakes.

Year round beach combing and tidepool exploring. Kayak into Ward cove to see the seals, or cruise aroung the Channel Islands.
