Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

'The house was nice and clean. Lots of extras which we appreciated borrowing: ice chest, flashlights, umbrellas, re-usable tote bags. Loved the extra warm and cozy blankets'.

This house (Built in 2003) is located in one of the last high-altitude rain forests in the U.S. centrally located, near the village of Volcano (altitude approx. 3600 ft) four miles from the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the heart of the Big Island of Hawaii. Only 30 minutes from Hilo and 2 hours from Kona .

The house is decorated with island art and comfortable seating areas. Your every need will be met. Enjoy creating your meals in our well equipped, well lit kitchen or dine out at one of the many restaurants in Volcano Village or inside the Volcanoes National Park. From fine dining to casual there's something for everyone's taste and budget. Enjoy a glass of wine in the evening while gazing at the immense star filled sky or the romantic outside lighted ferns from the floor to ceiling windows in the living room. Cuddle up in comfort in the living room & watch a movie using the Roku Streaming Player or listen to any number of music channels from the satellite TV or your own iPod or iPhone connected to the stereo system. Then enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in our luxurious beds. This is where you will find a truly peaceful, relaxing getaway.

In the morning have your coffee on the lanai (deck) with the sounds of the local birds playing in the surrounding fern forest while you consider your days adventure from the numerous list of options provided in our 10 page introduction email.

This house consists of a downstairs bedroom with queen size bed, spacious living room with cathedral ceiling and full sized convertible sofa, complete kitchen and a tiled bathroom with a luxurious spa-size tub with private views into the forest.

This property is very private. You can not see any neighbors due to the very dense tropical rain forest.

There is a roomy upstairs bedroom with a Queen sized iComfort Sleep System by Serta bed and a futon including 4 inches of full size memory foam to use any where you wish. The upstairs bedroom is accessed from the living room by way of a securely fastened ships ladder.

We are located only four miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park This is where you can view the steam vents and explore lava tubes. Some are located closer to Hilo which are all part of the same series of tubes carved out 500-700 years ago. I can provide you with information on visiting the best lava tubes on the island. For more volcano information click on the link to our web site below.

In Volcano Village about three minutes away you can be enjoying one of our many charming restaurants, shops or art galleries. Volcanoes National Park and surrounding areas have many beautiful hikes to choose from. Don’t forget to visit the Volcano Winery and take in a round of golf at the Volcano Golf & Country Club.

The Old Town of Hilo with its Historic Tsunami Museum and bay front shopping, glorious parks and waterfalls and snorkeling beaches are a short thirty minute drive North of Volcano. Thirty minutes in the opposite direction heading South of Volcano is one of the Big Island of Hawaii's best beaches, Punalu'u Black sand beach. It is known for its green sea turtles and beautiful black sand.

There is no where else you will find a community as charming and creative as Volcano Village. Hanging around the quaint Volcano Village restaurants and chatting with the locals is a great way to see and feel the Island aloha spirit. There is a mix of artists, musicians, writers and more. Be sure to make it to the local farmers market held every Sunday morning.

If you love orchids there is an orchid growing warehouse just down the highway called Akatsuka Orchid Gardens. They have some of the world’s rarest and most unusual orchids. A feast of color for the eyes. You may see them blooming in our gardens depending on the time of year.

At Richardson Bay 30 minutes from the house in Hilo There are beaches with great snorkeling. This area is great for bringing the kids. There are a lot more things to do and see, there are water falls, botanical gardens, lava flows into the ocean (when active) and great restaurants.

I can provide you with more info on all that and much more when you book your stay with us. As an added bonus there are no mosquitoes in this area because of it's cooler climate.

Your host is located near-by. Should you have any special needs or requests, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

About Tracy Taylor

I've been a business owner for an ever growing Residential and Commercial cleaning company for the last 15 years. I have cleaned other owners vacation rentals during that time and decided that was where I needed to invest my savings. I'm adventurous and I love life!

Tracy Taylor purchased this house in 2008

Why Tracy Taylor chose Volcano

I love this area of the Big Island. The temperature is perfect most of the time. The idea that the land around here is new and more land is being created all the time is fascinating to me. I could watch the lava flow for hours. I also can't get enough of snorkeling on the islands. The sea life here is absolutely amazing. I'm not sure which I love more.

Come and experience it for yourself. I will be happy to share the wonders of the Big Island with you so that you will go home knowing you have had the best vacation of your life.

What makes this house unique

I think the best thing I like about the house is the peace and quiet. The variety of birds and their songs are so beautiful. Listen for them at the end of the video. Mornings are the best sitting on the lanai drinking tea. The variety of plants and flowers will amaze you as they do me as I learn what will grow in this area! Something is always blooming. And the stargazing OMG the stargazing!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mahalo nui for sharing such a magnificent and inviting piece of your paradise with us! We found ourselves immediately comfortable and relaxed by all the amenities and the wonderful set up provided for us. We were able to completely soak in the entrancing beauty of the scenery so perfectly framed in the picture like windows throughout the house. Our stay here has been that of a fantasyland like vacation with explorations not only of our inner peace, but of the breathtaking views and the waters of South Point, the green sands, the fabulous tide pools of Kapoho. (Thanks for the map!) And the mesmerizing encounter between Pele and her water loving sister watching from Kalapana. Needless to say, our stay here has been perfect and we send a big mahalo to you both!

In the middle of the Rainforest

  • 4 of 5

The volcano house is nearby the Volcano village and the Volcano National Park but yet feels like you're in the jungle.

The house was very clean with plenty of room for our family of 5. The owner description is fairly good representation of what you get. Very special experience.

We had had a great time on trails at Volcano National Park, enjoy the pond snorkeling suggested in the owners book and really loved Hawaii botanical garden and Akaka falls.

Suggest you make restaurant reservation if you plan on dining in Volcano, we waited for an hour before we were seated.

Cute house in the rainforest near the national park.

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a neat location right in the rainforest. It is 5 minutes to the National Park which is convenient for daytime and nighttime visits. Second bedroom is a neat loft for kids who can climb the ladder. The owner stocked the house with lots of extras like umbrellas, flashlights, and coolers. Great stay.

Great cottage, private & beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Less than 5 minutes from the volcano 🌋? park but no crowds! This is our second time in the home and it was just as great. Very clean and well kept. Plenty of towels and blankets for those chilly nights- and bathrobes! Surrounded by greenery- even out the full size windows in the shower! Tracy was easily accessible with questions.

Mahalo again!

Great Location - Near Volcano National Park

  • 3 of 5

This place has a great location. It was smaller than I expected, and the second bedroom, is a loft with a bed and vertical ladder. I wouldn't recommend this place for a family, as the set up seems rather precarious. It's an older property that could do with some maintenance. I am allergic to mold and did have a mild reaction. Can't beat the vicinity to volcano national park.

Owner's Response: Aloha Erica, Mahalo for your review. Actually the house is very good for families with elementary school age children. They love being in the loft! it's very spacious and great for kids of all ages. The ladder is very sturdy and stable. It is steep and not recommended for children not old enough to climb on playground type ladders. We get approximately 300 days of rain per year in our beautiful rain forest. That tends to make everything wet and moist all the time. We run a dehumidifier in the house almost constantly to help combat that. I wouldn't recommend this area for anyone who has mold or mildew allergies. It would be very helpful to know what you observed that needed maintenance. The house was just built in 2003 I am not sure if 15 years old makes it an older property, I have owned it since 2008 and do regular maintenance as needed. In July this year we will be refinishing the entire Lanai. Again thank you for your review and I hope you're able to visit more of the beautiful and magical Hawaiian Islands.
