Inquiries are increasing for rentals of my cottage during this lovely time of the year. Run away from home to this perfect couples' hideaway. Shelter Harbor is a private community on beautiful Quonnie Pond which is separated from the ocean by a barrier beach. Escape the stress of everyday life in a new two-bedroom cottage at the end of a quiet road. Relax by the two-sided (living room/bedroom) gas fireplace and enjoy the 42-inch flat-screen HD TV with cable, ipod dock, DVD or CD. Hardwood floors and antique touches enhance the open plan. Have an intimate dinner beneath the chandlier. Rinse off after a day at the beach in the double shower or soak in a bubble bath in the 6-foot whirlpool tub. There are books and magazines to read and music to listen to. The small office provides cable connection for your computer and WIFI. Master bedroom has king-size bed and 37-inch flat-screen tv. Guest bedroom also has 37-inch tv. Both bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and Sealy Posturpedic pillow-top mattresses with memory foam. You'll always feel comfortable thanks to central air conditioning and propane heat.
Private beach rights, wonderful walking or jogging on quiet roads or well-marked hiking trails. Two private tennis courts, basketball court, beautiful restaurants nearby.
FALL RENTAL RATES ARE A BARGAIN! These are my favorite months and the most beautiful in the Harbor. Weather and water are still warm, summer folks have left the beach. We love to take a picnic of lobster tails, French bread, salad and a fine bottle of white wine to the beach to celebrate...whatever! Take long walks, have dinner at the Shelter Harbor Inn. ANGLERS WELCOME. SPEND A HALF DAY OR A DAY FISHING OFFSHORE! Stay longer than you planned! Half-price for September and October.
Activities (on-site or nearby): Golf, fishing, swimming, surfing, casinos (Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods), sightseeing (Mystic Seaport, Newport), boating, live theater, biking, wildlife viewing, health/beauty spa, shopping and more.
Suitable for one or two couples. No pets, no smoking. Year round as available.
Stonehaven is our second house in Shelter Harbor. We also own 75 Wagner Road. Our family came here in the 1970s when Alex (on the left in the picture) was five years old. David and I (on the right) live in New Jersey in the winter but come up every weekend we can. Alex's wife, Renee, is also a beach person and their two children, A.J. and Jordan, love boating and swimming.
meredith platt purchased this cottage in 1997
We had such a wonderful visit to RI and staying at this home was truly one of the brightest highlights! We found EVERYTHING we could possibly need there, including peace and quiet. A true home away from home kind of vacation! The owners were most helpful and responsive both before, during, and after our stay and made fast return of our deposit. The hosts also own the beautiful home behind this one but it was not occupied during our time there; we had the utmost privacy during our end of September stay and felt like we were the only ones in town.
Shelter Harbor is a peaceful place during all seasons and the dock is just a few minutes walk away. Shelter Harbor Inn & Restaurant is also within walking distance and is open 365 days a year, a real treat for those who want to stay close to home for a meal out or have an event there while hosting family at this nearby rental house. You will find a fully equipped kitchen at the home though so if you love to cook this is an optimal rental!
There are many wonderful adventures to be had for all within driving distance. Judith Point is just up Rte 1 where you can find fresh seafood and catch the ferry to Block Island. Historic Newport is about an hour's drive away over the beautiful bridges and offers shopping and day activities for everyone. ** If you head north of Rte 1 be sure to stop in on PATTICAKES on Kingstown Road in Wakefield for the best desserts of your life!!
You'll also find gas stations, restaurants and other conveniences like Stop & Shop grocery store and Walmart right down the road off Rte 1 (south of house) and popular public beaches/attractions like Watch Hill and Misquamicut Beach off Rte 1A past beautiful New England style stone walls and gorgeous beachfront houses. Downtown Providence, RI also offers day trips galore if you want to take the trip north into the state, and Leaf Peepers will be delighted with a drive through nearby CT via Waterford Rd or Rte 78.
Many thanks to the owners for considering all the details to make our stay truly comfortable! We will definitely stay there again on our next adventure to New England and would gladly welcome the hosts in our home! Good people and a good place :)
DO YOU LOVE TO FISH? DO YOU HAVE A BOAT ON A TRAILER? Bring it! We have a mooring in Quonnie Pond (1 block from the house) that you could use. There is a launch ramp for your boat. Fishing is great in the pond and the ocean. You can also surf-cast from the beach. There are many charter fishing boats in the area. We'll provide names and recommendations and tell you where to buy bait.
