Santa Croce, a former abbey in the midst of vineyards, olive groves and flower meadows, lays on an absolutely peaceful location, at the edge of a plateau between Orvieto and the Lago di Bolsena, an unspoilt lake with small fishing villages and idyllic beaches. The view extends over the valley of Lapone to the opposite villages of Viceno, Castel Viscardo and Benano with beautiful sunsets. The house is surrounded by shady, old trees, lavish lawns, two enchanted terraces and a fountain which was converted into the mini pool. The biological red wine that we cultivate all around Santa Croce is nowadays stored in the former church. The property was lovingly restored in the old style and was furnished with findings from all over the world. At two levels there are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 large kitchen, 1 living room with chimney and gallery. We live 2 km away.
A group of 8 of us stayed at this property for a week. It is absolutely beautiful and we would recommend it to anybody who wants a taste of life in the Italian countryside. Our hosts provided us with suggestions on what to do and see in the area. We were allowed to use fresh fruit and vegetables grown on the property. The property is a bit tricky to find but with the directions given by the owner we had no trouble at all. We would absolutely go back if we ever have the opportunity.
Santa Croce lies surrounded by vineyards and olive groves tucked away in the Etruscan hills between Orvieto and the Lago di Bolsena in the trip point of Umbria-Latium-Tuscany. The picturesque village of Sugano with opportunities for shopping bars and post is barely 10 minutes away. Orvieto with many gourmet restaurants, handicraft stores, markets and its sights can be reached within 15 minutes. One can travel to Lago in approx. 20 minutes.
