About michelle cheatham

I am from Atlanta,Ga. I lived in SF for 15 yrs before purchasing my first home in St.Helena in 20001. This is my second home that I have renovated which is my passion. I am an interior designer and owner of a catering and special event company,Invisible Chef. St.Helena is my primary residence yet I have an apt in SF to use. St. Helena is where I want to be and to retire.

michelle cheatham purchased this house in 2006

Why michelle cheatham chose Napa Valley

I chose my home in St.Helena for it's beautiful setting on a country lane overlooking the vineyards. It is ideally located 1/4 mile from the world -class Meadowood Resort but I purchased it for the views of the vineyards. The change of the seasons is evident when you look at the vines. There are truly four distinct seasons with the vines being our barometer. It is heaven!

What makes this house unique

Living here, I have the benefit of running amist the vines and walking Duke,my lab, at the nearby lake or in the vineyards. I also love getting on my road bike to cycle for miles on end on the Silverado Trail to Napa or Calistoga. I love the location that I am nearby restaurants and many world-class wineries. Another benefit is the glorious weather & sitting outside on the veranda entertaining friends sipping fabulous wines & eating succulent appetizers.

My company is available to cater dinner parties at the property.

Amazing Modern Farmhouse!

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed in a lot of great places on vacation, but this one might top them all. This is better than any resort you can find period! Had a great week staying here with my wife and I can't recommend this place enough. Meadowwood resort just a few mins away, overlooks a vineyard, stunning view, plus Michelle (owner) is just amazing to work with.

Book this now, don't wait!

Nice house; needs better air conditioning

  • 2 of 5

This would be a 4 to 4.5 star property if the air conditioner worked sufficiently (or if you are travelling at a time when AC is not needed much).

We stayed 3 nights in mid-June during the first heat spike of the summer (high temps daily around 102 degrees). When we arrived, the house was pretty warm, but it was clear that our host had just arrived and turned the AC on; so we expected it would cool down. Unfortunately it really didn't.

Each day when we returned to the house (in the late afternoon), it was over 80 degrees and did not cool down until well after the sun set, and even then we had to dip in the pool to cool off and run some fans in order to sleep decently. Luckily we had dinner plans on two nights, so we were out of the house, but on the night we stayed in and cooked dinner, we all just sweat through our shirts.

We told our host, but she was unable to get a repair person to come out over the weekend. She did provide us with a couple of larger fans to (marginally) help in the evenings.

I appreciate that it's not routinely 100+ degrees in this area, but it's also not entirely uncommon (and in fact, it was also this hot when we travelled to the valley in 2016). For this price point, you would expect to be comfortable -- and we were not. In June of 2016 we stayed at Auberge du Soleil. Despite it also being 100+ during the day, our room/villa was always very well cooled and comfortable.

It is also worth pointing out the TV situation. There is a small TV that is very dated and only gets a few channels. So if you are planning to watch ESPN or really much of anything outside of local stations, you should stay elsewhere. Not a big deal, but not what you would expect at this price point.

The other thing worth mentioning is the relative lack of privacy. The two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house, but the doors to both bedrooms are glass. Really just an FYI - you will want to be good friends with your housemates.

On the plus side, this house is in a great location for exploring the valley. Being so close to the grocery store, etc. in St. Helena is a big plus. The pictures are accurate - this is a very well-appointed house. We had everything we needed to cook dinner. The coffee machine isn't great, but there is a very good place (Model Bakery) for coffee and pastries in St. Helena.

Owner's Response: Dear future guests, I want all my guests to thoroughly enjoy themselves and to be comfortable and happy during their stay here. I prefer to greet guests personally to walk thru the property to explain and answer questions so I can assure your stay is perfect. Please note that this is my home and I am meticulous. I am very responsive to rectify any need or complaint immediately. I would like to briefly address the comments from the above renter. Regarding the AC, I installed a brand new unit in 2015 when the house was completely rebuilt and I have the filters change twice a year. We had an unprecedented 105 degree heat for 5 days. The renter text me on the second night of a three day rental ( Friday @6:20pm )stating the "AC wasn't blowing cold air." I immediately contacted the AC service tech but hey were slammed and couldn't come out til Monday. I drove from San Francisco to deliver 2 large fans on Saturday although the renter stated that they would be out wine tasting till 6pm and "it's not a huge deal." I also had my handiman( who is also an electrician)meet me at the house to check the thermostat. The unit was running full blast and the house was at a comfortable temperature and the AC was working. On Monday, the AC tech changed a filter, checked the unit for leaks,( none were found) filled up the lines with gas, and said it was in working order. I do have my handyman on call as an emergency contact who's number is in a binder for the guests. If he had been contacted, he could have come to the house on Friday to check the thermostat ,check the air filters.and brought fans to help cool the house. The AC tech said that it is not possible for the inside of the house with the high ceilings to get 40 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Inside temp is usually consistent @72-74. As far as the TV, the 2yr old TV is a LG 36" flat panel with Direct TV. Most people do not come to the wine country to watch TV. I think it may have been 'user error.' I do have ESPN,HBO plus 80 channels with Direct TV. I also just purchased a new DeLongia Magnifica S Espresso Machine. The old DeLongia Espresso machine was 7yrs and ready to upgrade. Please note, that all of the negative comments have been addressed and remedied. I look forward to having you as a guest really soon! Warmly, Michelle

Beautiful Modern Home

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a trip to the wine country. The house was perfect for two couples as the split floorplan is awesome. The views that overlook the winery from the front of the house are amazing. The house is very secluded and private. Michelle was great to work with. We will be back in the fall and plan on renting the house again.
