This two-bedroom/one-bath Trastevere condominium features marble and granite floors, French doors, a European ceramic bathroom with a shower, and in-unit laundry facilities.

The building is a modern, elevator-equipped, mid-rise brick building with a panoramic view from the private balcony.

Located just a four minute walk from the Trastevere Train Station, within one block of the Rome public bus system, a three minute walk to the tram, and within walking distance of many of Rome's wonders including the Vatican which is about three miles away.

This bright and airy condominium has been completely renovated. It's clean, and comfortably furnished with modern accommodations and all amenities for up to three guests.

Within walking distance there is a daily, open-air market which offers fresh fruit, foods, and flowers along with local wares and crafts. The neighboring streets have a variety of stores, restaurants, and service-oriented businesses, as well as beautiful residences.

The condominium is just off of the main street of Viale Trastevere, on Trastevere about a three minute walk you can board the #8 electric tram and be at Piazza Sonnino in just five minutes or stay on until the end of the line at Largo Argentino after another three minutes travel. When you get off you will see the ruins of the theater steps on which the Emperor Cesar said 'Et Tu Brute' before he died. From there a short walk will take you to all the famous sites such as the Pantheon (stop just across the street at Taza D'Oro for what Katie Couric and I agree is the best coffee in the world), Piazza Navone (check out the movie 'Return to Me' to get a preview of what this area is like), The Trevi Fountain ( 'Three Coins in the Fountain'), The Spanish Steps ( 'Roman Holiday'), Campo de Fiori ( where you should spend an afternoon soaking up the atmosphere), and make sure to go window shopping on Via del Corso.

For a quick trip to Vatican City from the Trastevere Train Station you can board the FR3 or FR5 train and go one stop to the San Pietro Station. This is also not a bad walk if you walk along Viale Trastevere to the river and then follow it to Via Della Conciliazonione and enter into Piazza Di San Pietro. The train will be faster.

On Via Carlo Ponti, less than a two minute walk, the # 3 bus takes you to the Colosseum and all of Ancient Rome.

It is very easy to get around, by bus, tram, train, or taxi. There is a Taxi stand where cabs are always waiting at the Trastevere Train Station. One does not hail a taxi on the street in Rome, rather the taxis line up conveniently near all the major sites. All the sites mentioned are less than three and a half miles from the condominium. In fact over the years I think I have walked to all of them when I have taken friends to Rome.

The condominium is in a residential area that has many restaurants, grocery stores, shops, and interesting streets to meander down and buy anything you might need. Some of my guests say they found the best cappuccino on the cornerright outside and they felt the restaurants in the neighborhood had the best food and prices in Rome. There are bulletin boards in the hallway filled with recommendations and cards left by guests. They all comment on how wonderful it is to be able to do all the tourist sites and return to a real Roman neighborhood to relax afterward.

Porta Portese, Rome's largest and oldest Sunday market, offers an extravagant selection of treasures and necessities -- something for everyone!

The condo's Trastevere location is an ideal spot from which to discover Rome's beauty and colorful sites. One can savor the centuries of history in this vibrant Eternal City.

About Barbara Wallace

I have always enjoyed many different cultures across the globe in my travels. Living in the Trastevere area of Rome and having attended Marymount International School in the Montemario part of Rome, exposed me to the many facets of this International city. The advantage of having homes in Rome and Chicago has further allowed me to appreciate the adventures, the history, and the arts that each trip to Rome provides.

Barbara Wallace purchased this apartment in 1998

Why Barbara Wallace chose Rome

In 1998 an opportunity presented the chance to buy this property in the Trastevere area. I knew I would enjoy the convenient access to all the main historical sites as well as the sense of neighborhood that living in a residential area brings. The ease of taking the train directly from the Fumiccino (Leonardo Da Vinci) Airport to the Trastevere train station and walking the five minutes to the condominium makes one realize how unnecessary a private car is in Rome. Having the train, electric tram, buses and taxis so convenient I never feel the need for a car once I'm settled in Rome either.

What makes this apartment unique

Living most of the year in Chicago does make it favorable for North Americans to call and communicate with me because of the similar time zones while having dependable help in Rome allows me to assist my guests in ensuring their stay is comfortable and any problems that may occur can be taken care of quickly.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay in Rome. The apartment was neat and clean and convenient to all public transportation. The caretakers of the apartment were extremely pleasant and helpful. It is a real neighborhood and it was a challenge to converse with the local people. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful. When we return we will definitely stay here again.

Wonderful Place to Stay in Rome

  • 5 of 5

My husband, teenage daughter, and I just returned from a 10 night stay at the apartment. It was just as described and shows exactly as photographed. It is clean, comfortable, and spacious with wifi, a working elevator, and air conditioning. The apartment is located outside of the Rome city center, but it is convenient to everything. Public transportation by train, bus, or tram is available with only a short walk from the front door of the apartment. There was never a need for a car. We really appreciated being living outside the "regular" tourist areas. We felt like we got a chance to experience life as the locals do. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants in the area and shopping is nearby, too. The apartment is equipped with a washing machine, but it was more convenient for us to take our clothes to the laundry on the corner and let someone else wash, dry and fold while we enjoyed the city. We loved the neighborhood market around the corner (on Carlo Porto). We got fresh bread, cheeses and meats there. Everyone in the area was friendly and even though we could not speak a word of Italian, we felt very comfortable. I highly recommend this apartment, if you are planning a trip to Rome. Booking and payment were a breeze and the owner is very helpful, offering tips and advice before you even get there. If my future travels take me back to Rome, I would love to stay at the apartment again.

Living like Romans live

  • 5 of 5

My father and I spent a wonderful 8 days in Barbara's apartment in Trastevere, which being just far enough from the tourist madness in the centre was enough to make us feel like we were living in Rome, rather than just visiting. The location is brilliant as a base for sightseeing, just yards from the tram no.8 which took only 10 minutes or so to get us straight into the historic heart of Rome and it's sights. In the other direction is Roma Trastevere railway station, another major hub to both Termini, the metro and the airport. Barbara was great with communication and very helpful with everything I asked. The beds were very comfortable, the shower was great and we were sad to leave our Roman home. Thoroughly recommended for an authentic experience of modern Rome, with the ancient heart of Rome just minutes away - I'd re-book the next time I visit Rome for sure.

Very comfortable apartment, well-equipped, great location

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was a wonderful oasis during our Rome stay. It had everything we needed, comfortable beds, space to sit and relax, facilities for cooking and eating - everything we hoped it would be. It is very well located, in beautiful Trastevere, but away from tourist crowds, close to great public transportation (train, tram, buses) which we used extensively. It is within easy walking distance of Testaccio and some very good restaurants (La Tavernaccia, Essenziale), as well as many more in the heart of old Trastevere. The owner provided great information on the apartment, the area, transportation and Rome in general. She was very responsive to any questions we had. Everything worked well, including the wifi. We will definitely go back there on our next Rome visit.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Barbara's condo for four days and we found it to be very clean, spacious, comfortable beds with all amenities.

The location is perfect to use easy public transportation to the heart of Rome and also to the airport. Plenty good and reasonable priced restaurants in the neighborhood including wine and grocery stores. Barbara was very attentive to any questions we had and provided us with lots of information about the city.

We would definitively rent it again if we travel to Rome.

Great Location! Excellent communication!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great! It was just a couple of blocks from the train station so it made getting from the airport really easy. It was also right on the tram line that would take us right into the center of Rome in 10 minutes if we didn't choose to walk. As for the apartment, it was exactly like in the pictures! There was also all kinds of helpful travel tips, restaurant recommendations and tourist attractions within the apartment. The best part for me was actually the great communication with the owner and how responsive she was. Email responses were on the same day and it was nice working with an american owner. I was able to prepay everything ahead of time instead of having at to bring cash which was very convenient. Overall, it was a great choice!
