|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Windgarth House is located on the west shore of Cayuga Lake, in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Country, across the road from the Sheldrake Point Winery and Cafe. Only 12 miles from Taughannock Falls State Park and 20 miles from Ithaca, it is nestled in a prime location. We rent the top floor or the entirety of this beautiful lakehouse by the week during the summer (late June until Labor Day) or for shorter stays the rest of the year (2 night minimum).
Windgarth House is right on the lake, with only a gently sloping lawn and beautiful gardens with mature shade trees separating the house from the lakefront. There are no stairs and no road between the house and lake, as is common elsewhere on Cayuga Lake. The house is located on a cove near Sheldrake Point. The water is shallow at the shore and gradually becomes deeper along the dock, to about four feet at the end of the dock. It is ideal for wading and swimming for children of all ages and adults. We provide a canoe and kayak, life jackets and other water toys for our guests' use.
The area around Windgarth House is ideal for long walks along the lake and biking. There are many hiking opportunities in the area, including at Taughannock Falls State Park.
If you have a smaller party, contact us for details - you can rent only the upstairs floor for a discounted rate.
Had a wonderful time at Windgarth. 4 adults and 4 almost adults. The Sheldrake point location is fantastic. Quiet and beautiful. Winery across the street is a bonus and the lake is amazing and fun. Rented stand up paddle boards in Ithaca and brought them back to add to the supplied canoe and various flotation devices. You can usually find calm water due to the point location. Close to Ithaca and the falls and the two kitchens are fun. Great backyard. Would we stay again? Just try and stop us! We LOVE it!
My wife and I were married in Geneva a few weeks ago and I rented the Windgarth House for my family for the wedding weekend. I shopped around for a couple of weeks and felt fairly confident that this house would be excellent value for money, and we were not disappointed! Between the amount of space you get, the comfort of the house, its prime location, and the stunning lakefront view/dock, it doesn't get any better than this for the very reasonable price. We especially appreciated the division of the house into upstairs and downstairs "apartments." My sister, brother-in-law and their three kids were able to have their own space downstairs, with a bathroom, bedroom, pullout sofa, playroom, fully stocked kitchen, dining room table, etc.
The owners of this house are also very responsive and flexible. As soon as I booked the house, Mariette was in touch to confirm the booking, provide additional details, answer any questions, etc. Also, when I forgot to pay our balance and deposit for the house prior to the deadline (unfortunately some things fall through the cracks when you're planning a wedding!), Mariette was extremely accommodating, allowing me to drop off the payments at her office in Ithaca the day we checked in. I would definitely book this house again. Thanks again, Mariette and Laurie!
We rented the Windgarth House to attend Ithaca College graduation with family from three states. It was perfect for us. NO steep stairs for grandparents to be concerned about to access the dock. Linens and towels were provided (and were plentiful) and the nice Weber grill worked out great for our BBQ with our son's friends and their families the day before graduation. Everyone that was staying in town in a hotel was jealous of our find! We enjoyed the wineries nearby (and the Myers Distillery just up the street) and it was close enough to Ithaca so getting to graduation on time wasn't difficult. We explored the nearby cemetary on a long walk and walks in both directions from the house proved to be full of nature and beautiful views. We would certainly return to try Windgarth in another season. So nice not to have a TV!! We played board games and card games and we fished and canoed. Parking was fine and having two fridges was a great convenience. We didn't use them, but the washer and dryer would be a big help for families traveling with kids.
My family had a great week at the Windgarth this past July. The location was great and the house was clean and comfortable, It is also in a nice quiet area, and is away from route 89 - the main road that is on the west side of Cayuga Lake. The gentle sloping yard was very nice as other houses on the finger lakes either have no backyards or the slope down to the water or to the house itself is too steep. We rented the entire house as our adult children met us there for a few days during the week. We were all very comfortable. It is also very close to several wineries. We were very happy with the Windgarth and look forward to renting every year the 2nd week of July. The owners of the house are very nice people, and our security deposit was promptly returned after our rental. I just hope that no one tries to book the 2nd week in July since that's the week we want o stay at the Windgarth.
My first review on anything – (ever.) I really wanted to comment on this vacation home. I stayed here a few years ago and came back for another stay this year.
Location … ideal. Located on Cayuga Lake across from Sheldrake Winery. A few restaurants/bars down the street. Tons of wineries in the area and 15 minutes from Seneca Lake with more wineries, restaurants, and activities. Close to Ithaca as well.
Outside Property … lovely. The grounds are meticulous with a flower/vegetable garden, benches/table, and boating equipment to take out on the lake.
Inside the House … charming. It is superbly clean and nicely decorated. It is spacious and includes some basic items for your stay. Nothing like sitting around one of the tables at night with family/friends.
Owners … accommodating. They are extremely helpful and prompt. Their care for the home is evident throughout. They leave instructions for you in the house and a guide to the area. Thank you for sharing your home.
Simply, the Windgarth Home is perfect for a vacation or weekend getaway!
You can't beat this cottage for a family retreat. We had six adults and two children, and there was plenty of room for everybody. Upstairs AND downstairs kitchens means plenty of room to prepare and store food, and to clean up after meals. The windows let in lots of light and fresh breezes, and views of the yard flowers and the lake. The charcoal grille works fine, and the old locusts provide shade for eating on the picnic table between the house and the lake. The kids caught nearly a dozen fish off the dock--sunfish mostly, and a couple stripers. And they had a ball paddling in the canoe and kayak. No need to go anywhere to keep them occupied! The house is in is a very pleasant small lakeside community far enough from Ithaca that there's hardly any traffic to worry about. Just don't come with a strict agenda! There's a nice pub within a couple miles, and a winery and vineyard across the road. The Seneca Lake wineries are within a half hour's drive to the southwest, and if you bring bikes the pavement is smooth right out the door. It would be hard to find a better place to turn off the cell phone and relax for a few days.
Windgarth House is located in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine country. It is directly across the street from the Sheldrake Point Winery and close to several other Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake wineries.
