In the winter Banner Elk is where people come to choose and cut their own Christmas tree and ski, and in the summer it is a perfect place for a family getaway which can be quiet, peaceful, and relaxing or full of activity, fun, and adventure. Blue Ridge parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and Linville Gorge are just a few of the scenic landmarks in the area. The attractions that are worth visiting are the Woolly Worm Festival that takes place in Banner Elk in October, and the summer theater, by the Lees-McRae College Performing Arts department.
This is a Non-Smoking and Non-Pet Friendly home.
There is a 2 night minimum for off peak seasons and a 3 night minimum for holidays and the entire month of October. 4 night minimum for the Thanksgiving holiday and a 7 night minimum for the July 4th and Christmas/New Year holidays.
As you plan your trip to the mountains, please remember we do get rain, snow and some foggy days and occasional inconveniences which are out of our control. Winter weather in the Blue Ridge Mountains can occur from November through April. The majority of our homes are accessed by mountain roads, which will be icy in winter weather. For the safety of you and your party, please be prepared to drive in snow and ice. This means 4-wheel drive, good tires, and chains. It is your responsibility to be prepared for hazardous road conditions. There will be NO refunds, allowances, or date changes resulting from your negligence in this matter.
We just got back from the cabin on Jan. 10th. The cabin is much bigger and nicer than shown on the pictures. Very close to the slopes, tubing and ice skating! (6 min drive at 35 mph city limit). Very well equipped kitchen, nicely decorated and you surely feel like home when away from home. The only note have is that cleaning crew needs to do a better job but other than that everything was perfect! We are booking it soon again for a 2nd trip next month! I would most definitely recommend it to anyone!
Our family rented the Bearfoot Cabin for a long weekend to celebrate the 60th Annual Highland Games @ Grandfather Mountain. Upon arrival we were so excited simply because the outside of the house was so gorgeous and to our delight the inside was just as beautiful! The kitchen is a wonderful size along with the large dining room table that seats eight! The kitchen was stocked with everything you could hope for to assist you the cooking of meals! The master bedroom right off the kitchen was perfect for my parents and the bathroom was awesome, we loved having a door between the shower and the rest of the bathroom so people could be using both with privacy! The living room was beautifully decorated with extremely comfortable furniture! The two bedrooms upstairs were just as comfortable and spacious as the master bedroom on the main level! The pool table was enjoyed several times as well! The downstairs bedrooms were no disappointment just like the rest of the house. One thing my family loved was the ceiling fans in all of the rooms except the bunk bed room. Ceiling fans are important to the women of the family! I cannot really describe how peaceful and welcoming the two front porches were other than we absolutely loved them! The fire pit was perfect and incredibly convenient! Wood was delivered promptly on the check-in day! Our entire stay was made perfect by this beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming cabin!
Tracey was wonderful to work with, any questions we had he promptly answered! We appreciate all he did to make our vacation as fabulous as it could be!
This was our first time visiting Barefoot Cabin, but it far exceeded our expectations. The cabin is beautifully furnished with VERY comfortable beds and a well-stocked kitchen. It is spacious but still feels very cozy and inviting. We especially enjoyed sitting on the upper porch, watching the hummingbirds and enjoying the beautiful view. Having a laundry room on the main floor was really helpful, too. And the pool table was a big hit! I think we have at least one pool shark in the family now. We loved that the cabin feels secluded and peaceful but is really only a few minutes from town, shopping, and lots of fun places to explore! There really is something for everyone: antique shopping, hiking to area waterfalls, braving the bridge on Grandfather Mountain, or relaxing at the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We had a wonderful weekend at this rental. We had 8 adults and 8 kids. The house was very clean, very well stocked, and located in a perfect spot. With the picnic table on the balcony the kids could all sit there for meals, while the adults sat in the chairs and swing outside or around the table and bar inside. The kids had plenty of space to run around and explore. We all loved the hot tub and fire pit. The house had more supplies then ever expected. We all really enjoyed this house and are already planning our next trip. I can't say enough how perfect this house was for our group and the price was one of the lowest I found. We felt extremely blessed and hope to make it a tradition!
My family and I came to this cabin for Thanksgiving this year and had a blast. We had three families come from 3 different states, 7 adults and 7 kids (7 and under!). We arrived and had a couple days of beautiful weather. The outside decks are big and a perfect place for eating or reading books on the porch swing, we loved having fires in the fire pit and the hot tub under the stars.
On day two at the cabin we had the first big snow of the year. The hills right outside the cabin are perfect for sledding! We saved so much money by not having to pay for tubing/sledding at the ski resorts for the kids. We could take the kids right out the front door and the neighbors even loaned us a sled.
The kitchen was big enough and equipped for us to make our Thanksgiving meal. We loved the layout of the bedrooms. Two bedrooms upstairs for my family, Master on the main for my parents, and then the downstairs has two more bedrooms for my brothers family.
We will definitely be coming back to this cabin again with our family. We made so many good memories. It was clean, plenty of space and the perfect location!
We arrived on Friday after a rough trip and a terribly car sick child. Aside from the shared drive looking junked up with several camper trailers at the front, the driveway as a whole could stand for some patching and repairs. I entered the cabin with my three- and one-year-old. Needing to get them settled, I searched for some utensils for them to eat with while we unloaded. Unfortunately, I got to begin my vacation unloading a dishwasher that was quite literally packed full of nearly every fork and spoon in the place.
We learned the hard way that the house is FAR from sound proof. If the top story is awake, so is everyone else. My youngest is a light sleeper. He (and therefore we) woke several times every single night for the entire seven nights. The heat is also impossible. If the main floor is warm, the bottom is an ice box, and vice versa. Our children were sick, but we slept with the windows open (in 20 degree weather) the entire seven nights to keep the other floors comfortable.
The third floor has a sewage odor that permeates the floor when upper restrooms are used. We had to close the stopper on the sink and tub, put some water in there, and leave it in order to rid the smell. I called the management company about this problem on the Sunday morning after we arrived. The gentleman that answered was far from professional and I questioned whether I even contacted the correct company. He corrected himself and told me that he would call the following day with information from the plumber. He didn't. Nor did he call any of the other five remaining days of our stay.
My son dropped his lovie under the master bed on the main floor. When we attempted to retrieve it, we encountered someone else's dirty underwear and pajama pants. Since you are required to pay a cleaning fee, I was quite dismayed and questioned what else had been left untouched. Sure enough, nearly every bed has a pile of dust and dirt residing beneath. I stripped all bedding within the house and washed it as a precaution. If dirty underwear is left behind, I can't imagine what else is there.
We used the grill on our last day there, but my husband had to disassemble it and deep clean it because apparently it's never touched. The gas burners were clogged.
I loved the idea of this house and the reviews seemed great. it looked remote (it isn't with two other cabins quite close and sharing the same drive). It is in close proximity to Banner Elk, and has easy access to several ski resorts.
Bearfoot Cabin is located only 2.5 miles from downtown Banner Elk with easy access. Minutes to shopping, skiing, tubing, hiking, dining, and everything else our beautiful area has to offer. Also about 3 miles to Lees-McRae College!
