Think of summer 2016 now! This is the most popular time for cooling off at the lake
Fall leaves and THANKSGIVING in the mountains: Leaves are the big draw for the month of October, but September offers solitude and wonderful weather and sometimes leaf changes. Floridians enjoy September for the cool nights and the temperate days. Fall is a great time to relax and take in all the color and splendor that nature has to offer. Popular fall craft shows abound in the area and 'leaf watchers' take daily rides to see the changes throughout October. Special rates are available in Sept, Oct, Nov. early Dec, so there's no reason to hesitate and get away!
Thanksgiving is that special 'together time' for families. Bring the whole gang for the holidays and enjoy the open views after the leaves have fallen. Eat, drink, and be together and then take a long hike to lose those calories! Hiking is best during October and November as the leaves turning or are down and the mountain views are spectacular! Before everyone exits to go back to reality, pick out and chop down your hand-picked Christmas tree--a family tradition that will make the Thanksgiving mountain holiday complete!
Christmas and New Years viewing the lake and mountains is a wonderfully peaceful time. The nearby towns of Highlands and Cashiers have special Christmas tree lighting festivals and everywhere the tiny Christmas lights abound. The lake is quiet, but the views are still unbelievable from the cozy lakefront living room. With a cup of hot cocoa and the fireplace blazing, many families have 'reconnected' with each other while working on a puzzle, playing cards, or having a game of Scrabble. Bring your jacket and mittens to chop down your own tree to make this Christmas a memorable time for the entire family. Let the Joy of Christmas draw you and yours to this beautiful family retreat.
Ring in the New Year in peace. If one of your resolutions is to avoid the rush, crowds, and traffic with drunk drivers on New Years Eve, then being on the lake is for you! Go out for a gourmet meal at a local restaurant and then relax with a 'toast to life' in front of the fireplace. Recharge yourself for the new year.
We are a large Florida family who enjoys the escape from the heat. Twenty-one summers of cool weather and lake fun has made us look forward to our time each year.
Jana Carpenter purchased this cabin in 2005
We loved the lake and cooler weather for summer. We enjoy water sports and found water skiing to be the best on the lake!
The gently sloping property with the quiet cove convinced us to become "lake people." The culture of going to visit friends on the lake by boat has made us yearn to come here every summer.
We rented this home the last week in July. We traveled with our daughter (14) and her two friends (15). Our son (20) met us there with 3 of his college friends and stayed for half of the week. I cannot express how much fun we all had. We rented both the pontoon boat and speed boat. We used the pontoon in the evenings for nice rides on Lake Glenville and the kids loved the speed boat for tubing. It was such a plus having the boats right there when we arrived rather than having to rent from the marina. There is so much to do in the area. Best hike for older kids is in Gorges State Park - they had a blast sliding down Turtleback Falls. We also golfed, went horse back riding, white water rafting and zip lining. The hi-light every night was gathering around the large kitchen table and having pictionary wars! We would head out each day for an adventure and make it back in time to take the boats out. We grilled out on the deck several times. You know it's been a great vacation when all the kids were so appreciative of their time spent there. It was such a special time for us to spend with our kids and their friends. Jana was great to work with from the first communication up until we were pulling out of the driveway for our ride back home. Thanks so much Jana!
We arrived to find a beautiful home by the lake amidst the fall colors. Truly enjoyed our stay and Jana was so great to work with. Home is well-stocked if you wish to prepare meals there, which we did. Gas BBQ grill was excellent. Short drive to Cashiers if supplies/groceries are needed. Great location for the many waterfall hikes located within an hour from lakehouse. We even took a pontoon boat trip on the lake. A great house with a great host. Thanks so much Jana !
We bought property nearby for a future home and wanted our 3 kids to see the area for the first time. All of our kids ages 15, 22 and 25 said it was the most fun of any family vacation over the years. The Carpenter house is very big, accommodating all of us plus 3 friends and it is in an alcove of Lake Glenville, avoiding a lot of boat traffic. It has it's own dock and we rented their speedboat which we spent most of our time on waterskiing and tubing. The marina for gas and rentals is 2 minutes away. The lake is gorgeous and they also have a canoe and kayak for your use. It's a short 10 minutes from downtown Cashiers and close to beautiful waterfall hiking and horseback riding. I highly recommend Gorges State Park for hiking. A week went by so fast! I'm so glad we bought property here. Jana and her family also own the house next door and we were lucky to have met them!
My sister and I rented this home with our families for one week. There were 4 adults and 7 children (ages 5 - 15). We all agreed that we had our BEST VACATION EVER!!!! The house was open and comfortable. As a trained chef, I found the kitchen well stocked with supplies and we ate in the entire time we were at the lake. When we were at the house, we spent most of our time outside on the upper deck enjoying the view of Lake Glenville. We also rented their pontoon boat and spent all day, every day on the lake exploring, tubing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming. This home is tucked away in a cove which is a HUGE plus since the lake is ideal for swimming and kayaking (the cove keeps you protected from boaters). I highly recommend this home to families - you will not regret your decision! As an added bonus, Jana (the owner) and her family are great to work with and they made us feel so welcomed.
This place has everything you can ask for. Great house with all the comforts of home. We were a group of 10 and we had plenty of room. Wonderful hosts. Thank you Jana and your beautiful family. Big thank you to your gentleman sons. You should be proud. We will be back.
Our family enjoys this lake home so much that we have come here 3 straight years! We love the easy access to the lake and we spend most of our time each week on the dock swimming, canoeing, kayaking and even having diving contests into the cool water. The boat rental option is a great perk to have the opportunity to see the multiple waterfalls on Lake Glenville and enjoy the many coves and lake activities. The owner Jana is so kind and personable and available to answer questions or help with any needs that may arise. Come and enjoy!!
Great for Family Reunions! Room for everyone!
This lovely, expansive home is DIRECTLY ON THE LAKE in the mountains at 3800 feet above sea level. Lake Glenville is a resort area for outdoor activities all year round. Summer brings so much to do with boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, or golfing. Just minutes away are both Cashiers or Highlands where many enjoy shopping for antiques and works of art. Fall craft festivals are local events, and winter brings fun with snow skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. Any time and any season is a great time in the mountains on the lake! Most of all, it is a great area to relax with family and to enjoy the cooler temperatures in summer, Fall leaves, or snow skiing.
Other Activities: TWO BOATS ARE AVAILABLE.
1) PONTOON BOAT, Live bait well; seating for 8-10 people.
2) 21ft SEA RAY BOWRIDER with 357 hp engine. Fast boating for tubing, skiing, or wakeboarding. 8 people.
All rentals are to be returned with a FULL TANK of gas. Liability waiver required.
Golf: World class golfing is available at Sapphire Valley and Trillium Resorts. Golf in cool summer temperatures while making your way through the courses above 3000 feet. This is a sought after destination and your rental home is only 3 minutes from the finest course at Trillium. Pack your clubs and get away to the splendor of a mountain golf paradise and stay on the Lake.
If there are others who don't share your golfing zeal, they can relax on the dock or go into the nearby towns for shopping and lunch at a gourmet restaurant. (Leave the credit card! You won't need it at the golf course!)
Ski: Skiing is available at Sapphire Valley (15 minutes away) and Maggie Valley (1 hour away). Not exactly the slopes of the Rockies, but definitely fun for those who are still amateurs. Equipment rental is very affordable, as well. A new snow tubing area has been added and seems to be as popular with the younger folks as downhill skiing.
Maggie Valley is just an hour away and has more challenging slopes. They also rent equipment on site.
When you are all worn out, return home to sit in front of the fireplace with a hot cocoa and a great movie!
