About Rob and Marj Rankin

We live on the property about 300 feet from the cabin. We built the cabin from a log kit, started in 2012 and finished in June 2013 for the rental season.

Rob and Marj Rankin purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Rob and Marj Rankin chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome visit. Rob & Marj were wonderful hosts in the cabin was perfect... just as described. We loved how peaceful and quiet the location was. Having direct access to the trails of Acadia National Park was wonderful. We spent our week enjoying the park, dinners in Southwest Harbor, and day trips to Bar Harbor.

Loved the cabin and the fire pit

  • 3 of 5

Cabin was nice, well keep and comfortable. Cooked our breakfast and a couple of dinners in the cabin. Great hiking just out back of the cabin. Close enough to Southwest Harbor 5 minutes and 25 minutes Bar Harbor. Great for the cost

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our children ages 6-13. We would definitely come back! Clean, quiet, your own little slice of heaven. The park borders the cabin on two sides and our last day we walked right out onto the trails and hiked around Long Pond and to Echo Lake. Definitely book this! My only negative thing to say is that the can opener didn't work and we had cans of tuna galore! Ha!

My family and I had such a nice stay in Cabin 2 that Marj and Rob offer. We wanted a relaxing vacation and spent a lot of time at the cabin reading, playing board games, listening to music on the porch and of course campfires every night! It was so nice to be able to walk right to Long Pond and use trails that connect right to the lot the cabin is on. Highlights were hiking Perpendicular Trail, happy hour in Southwest Harbor and people watching at Sandy Beach. The cabin has everything you may need. Will definitely be renting here again!!

Wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented this lovely cabin for a week in August. Our children LOVED the loft and made it their special place for all sorts of games. The kitchen was fully stocked. We even tried cooking lobster for the first time (successful venture I might add...). The days were spent exploring Acadia (so glad we choose the "Quiet Side" of Acadia over the crazy business of Bar Harbor) and the evenings when we returned, we watched the Olympics as a family on their satellite TV. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the cabin, the fabulous week we had there, the hospitality of Rob and Marj, and our overall experience in Maine.

Simply Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Staying on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island proved to be such an amazing experience only enhanced by the charming, cozy cabin that literally within a stone's throw away from Acadia National Park. The Rankins greeted us as soon as we arrived, showed us the cabin, and offered a few great ideas of what to do during our stay. The cabin itself was wonderful - clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay, even a few extras like DirectTV. The best parts of our stay were the numerous hours we spent on the screened in porch, unwinding, with direct views into Acadia. There was a direct path to one of the trails that led to Long Pond which was the starting point for many more trails - an incredible convenience! The Acadia Explorer Cabins are the perfect place to unplug and reconnect with others and nature. If you are planning a trip to MDI, you should stay in Southwest Harbor at these cabins!
