About CHARLIE OR MONICA

While visiting family in Breckenridge, CO for summer and winter vacations, we fell in love with the area and decided it would be a wonderful place to own a second home. When we found this cabin, we knew it was meant to be. We were so mesmerized by the property and cabin, that we lost track of time and missed our plane home. We love how you feel when you're at the cabin. You're away from all the stresses of daily life without being isolated. The surrounding mountains and creeks and pond make it special. It's a place for us to reconnect with family and nature. And it doesn't hurt that there are so many fun things to do near by!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to let you know that the stay at the cabin was unbeliveable. We were so amazed at the scenary and location of the cabin. We saw all types of wildlife while staying such as moose, mountain Lion, beavers and elk, what an adventure. The kids were thrilled by the fish in the pond and were overjoyed by the snow that came down while we were their. The location was close enough to larger communities but yet far enough away. I use to work for Texas Parks & Wildlife and visited many Parks and have seen very nice areas along with nice cabins, this compared to yours were no match. Your location was nicer than any location I have ever visited, and I have been to many locations.

Beautiful Property

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for my family. It is a great place to completely disconnect and relax. We stayed 7 days and only turned on the TV to watch a movie. Most days we took an excursion (Breckenridge, Royal Gorge, Buena Vista (rafting), Leadville (ATV)), but would rush back to hang out at the cabin. My son fished everyday in the pond, we took hikes up the mountain or just casual walks around the property. Sitting outside listening to the flowing stream made for a very relaxing mornings and evenings. We were fortunate to see many kinds of wildlife. We spotted deer, a rabbit, a beaver, a fox and our favorite was the moose. Although we couldn't get a good picture because they kept their distance, the mother and baby moose did hang out by the tree line for almost 3 hours on one of the days.

The cabin is fully equipped, comfortable and has everything you need (and more). It should be noted you have to travel about 4+ miles on gravel road to reach the property and it takes about 20 minutes to get to the property from the main road. For us this was not an issue, but you want to plan accordingly.

Monica is one of the best property owners I have ever dealt with. She is very responsive and detailed. In addition to the cabin information, she provided a helpful list of things to do in the area, restaurants, grocery sources and many other pieces of information.

This was truly one of the best family vacations we have taken and I highly recommend this property.

Another great stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time we've stayed at this cabin and our group loved it just as much as the first time! The cabin is well appointed with everything you need and is very comfortable. The property is absolutely beautiful (even prettier than the pics)! It feels miles and miles away from everything, yet is less than 10 mins to town. In short, perfect! I highly recommend it!! Thanks again Monica!

Magical White Christmas

  • 5 of 5

This cabin helped my family make holiday memories that all others will be compared against for years to come.

When looking for the perfect VRBO for our Christmas vacation, we came across Mountain Creek Lodge. We wanted a cabin in the woods that was private, peaceful, and where we could bring our two large dogs. We hit the jackpot.

We were very impressed with Monica’s responsiveness as I asked questions and went through the booking process. Mother Nature threw a curveball during our check in, and both Monica and Charlie were on the spot and got everything taken care of forthwith.

The property was beautiful! We arrived to a peaceful snowfall, and the serenity continued for our entire stay. My father appointed himself the keeper of the fire, and he kept the cabin toasty warm even in the below freezing temperatures. We truly enjoyed the warmth and coziness of the cabin.

We especially loved that we were close enough to Breckinridge and Fairplay so that we could venture out to restaurants and shops, but still felt like we were in our own private forest.

We got a tree-cutting permit from the Forest Service and had the most beautiful Christmas tree in the middle of the cabin. While others sing carols about a white Christmas, we were able to have a magical one at Mountain Creek Lodge. We highly recommend booking a stay at this cabin.

Beautiful Private Mountain Views

  • 5 of 5

This property is just gorgeous. My husband and I wanted a private retreat to escape to for a week long getaway and this place exceeded our expectations. There are tons of things to do if you love the outdoors as much as we do. We took hikes, fished the stream and pond, watched for moose (which we saw one of the days), drove to Breckenridge one morning and enjoyed walking the main street, and even played a game or two of Super Mario Brothers old school. Yes, they have a Nintendo, perfect for the one rainy evening we had inside with hot cocoa. The weather was incredible when we were there (mid October). The grocery is just a short drive into Fairplay. So close, yet you feel completely away from it all by the time you get back to the cabin. We loved that there was acreage to hike and roam. We also brought our two dogs. They are like children for us, so having them there made our stay so enjoyable. We were so grateful to be able to include them on our vacation. The cabin itself is cozy and inviting with the most stunning views every window you look out. Some days we just sat in the living room, read and looked out at the mountains. Truly one of the most relaxing places we have ever been. Not another house in sight. Charlie and Monica have provided all that you need from plates, cups, coffee cups, linens, and towels. Seriously, everything you need for a getaway. We honestly don't have one complaint! Our time at this cabin was magical and we can not wait to come back next year. Just a little tip if you are from an area that is low altitude like we are....this amazing place is close to Alma (elevation 10,578 feet). Prepare for how your body may react to the altitude change. You don't want to have altitude sickness the first day or two you are there :) Thank you Charlie and Monica for being so quick to respond, available for any need we might have had, and allowing us to visit your beautiful home!

Weiman-McClean Mountain Jam 2015

  • 5 of 5

What an awesome 4 day weekend we had. The seclusion was perfect, quiet end of road location. Views are spectacular, full on log cabin with huge deck. Woke up to dusting of snow on Saturday, perfect for start of fall. After that, great Colorado weather.

Several side trips to spots in the area, caught native cutthroat trout at Kite Lake, highly recommend that drive and hike.

Monica and Charlie are more than accommodating, cabin ultra comfortable, nice to have wi-fi, flat screen and DirectTV too.

Wood burning fireplace came in handy and then star gazing... wow!

Thanks Again for sharing your cabin!

Allan, Joe, Paul, Tyler, Derek and Donovan!
