While visiting family in Breckenridge, CO for summer and winter vacations, we fell in love with the area and decided it would be a wonderful place to own a second home. When we found this cabin, we knew it was meant to be. We were so mesmerized by the property and cabin, that we lost track of time and missed our plane home. We love how you feel when you're at the cabin. You're away from all the stresses of daily life without being isolated. The surrounding mountains and creeks and pond make it special. It's a place for us to reconnect with family and nature. And it doesn't hurt that there are so many fun things to do near by!
CHARLIE OR MONICA purchased this cabin in 2008
I wanted to let you know that the stay at the cabin was unbeliveable. We were so amazed at the scenary and location of the cabin. We saw all types of wildlife while staying such as moose, mountain Lion, beavers and elk, what an adventure. The kids were thrilled by the fish in the pond and were overjoyed by the snow that came down while we were their. The location was close enough to larger communities but yet far enough away. I use to work for Texas Parks & Wildlife and visited many Parks and have seen very nice areas along with nice cabins, this compared to yours were no match. Your location was nicer than any location I have ever visited, and I have been to many locations.
My wife and I wanted to get out of the Heat for the Christmas holiday and spent the week there after Christmas including New Year's. We were blessed to have snow on the 1st day of our trip! We rented a four-wheel drive Jeep Wrangler empik a couple trips to Breckenridge for snowboarding and snowmobiling which was only about 40 minutes away. The cabin was exactly as described and felt like we were miles away from civilization! Although there were a lot of beautiful cabins that we passed on the way to this property, this was at the very end of of the road which gave my wife and I the seclusion we were looking for. The owners knew we were from Tampa and we're worried about us getting altitude sickness and we're willing to be flexible with our dates in case we didnt feel wellwhich was much appreciated. Fortunately, we didn't have any problems. We didn't want to leave and are really looking forward to going back during the summer!
We were looking to escape for the Christmas holiday with our two boys and two Great Danes, none of whom had much experience with snow being from Austin, Texas. Mountain Creek Lodge ended up being perfect. We got pretty lucky with the weather, coming in just after several feet of snow fell and getting out before too much more fell. Still, we had a couple of days with some light snow fall, including a white Christmas. Everyone enjoyed romping around in the snow in the wide open spaces around the cabin, especially our dogs. We even had a brief visit from a moose and caught a quick glimpse of what we think was a fox, although he moved to quickly for us to get a picture to confirm that.
The cabin itself was very cozy, and yet big enough for everyone to have a place to escape and be alone if they wanted. We did most meals in the cabin, which is reasonably well equipped for most kinds of cooking. We also loved the wood burning stove, although it could not keep up with the howling cold wind on Christmas day of up to 70 mph, leaving part of the cabin pretty cold. If we had one complaint, it would be a silly one under the circumstances, but the internet connection was somewhat limited. That should not matter in this setting, but when we were stuck inside because of really cold and windy weather, it was a little challenging to have four people trying to use the internet at the same time. Again, that is pretty silly as a complaint when you think about why you are staying there.
We did get over to Breckenridge for one afternoon, which was a pretty easy drive on a clear day. Unfortunately, when we wanted to head back later in the trip, the weather had made the drive much more challenging, so we passed. Fairplay itself is serviceable for the basics, but is not really a destination in and of itself. If you are going to the Mountain Creek Lodge, go for the outdoors, which are spectacular.
All in all, we recommend Mountain Creek Lodge to anyone looking for a winter break and we look forward to checking it out in the summer when we can break out our fly rods and enjoy the outdoors that way.
Wonderful home thanks for sharing it with us! Scenery was amazing, so quiet, no neighbors in sight, wildlife was beautiful! House was fully stocked with all our needs and then some! We enjoyed having a fire in the stove, Movies at night and cooking on the grill! Doing laundry was a bonus! House was very clean. We really enjoyed ourselves!!
Cannot say enough about this piece of heaven. We did not want to leave!!! The house, the area, the views....absolutely wonderful!!! I believe our favorite part of the entire vacation was sitting in the rockers outside at night and star gazing - perfect setting for watching the stars twinkle. Everything we could have possibly wanted for an Autumn retreat....thank you so very much for sharing your home with us! !!! Maizie, our lab, also loved the place - especially the chipmunks! ;) We want to come back and stay longer next time!!!
The property was exactly as described and far exceeded our expectations. There was great hiking on site and we were able to see 2 bull moose right on the property which was very exciting for our 3 boys. We would highly recommend this property. The owners were also great to work with and responded right away to our questions.
My husband and I could not have been more pleased with this cabin and surrounding acreage. You always keep your fingers crossed when booking something on-line, but have no fear when renting this beautiful home. Fly fishing in the creek/pond right below the cabin was unbelievable. Watching a bull moose saunter down the valley towards the cabin will forever be etched in our memories. The cow moose and her yearling bedding down no further than 50 yards from the cabin. The list could go on, and on, and ..........
Kenosha Pass is a short drive north from the cabin and provided a spectacular hiking experience. Horseback riding at The Platte River Stables was another activity that proved itself beyond expectation. Breckenridge is a 30-40 minute drive away.
The cabin itself is furnished with anything you might need, and the washer/dryer was a bonus when staying somewhere a full week.
We (and our border collie) cannot say enough good things about this vacation rental!!!
