Overview

About the property

Luxury apartment on 2 floors with terrace and private access and piano

The villa was built in 1894 by Mutschler, the manufacturer of fountain pen, and was completely renovated in 2005, when all the historic elements were preserved and lovingly refurbished. This includes the original paintings portrayed on the ceiling in the living rooms.

The apartment that is being rented out is spread over 2 storeys connected by a beautiful historic spiral staircase.

Both the bedrooms are about 11qm and 22qm large and have direct access to the garden terrace. From each bedroom there is direct access to the large designer bathroom lying behind with bath tub, walk-in shower and 2 large wash basins with mirror fixtures. In addition, a separate closet space is there with plenty of space for your clothes and on the other side of the bathroom is the laundry and ironing room. A new coin-operated washer and dryer, ironing board, steam iron station, clothes horse and laundry bag are there at your disposal.

The kitchen, located on the upper level, is fully equipped with dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, oven and stove, toaster, kettle, coffee maker in matching design, a second coffee machine with Tchibo capsules and plenty of dishes and cooking utensils.

Notes:
From the beginning of our short-term rental in April 2013 until today, we had guests from all over the world here. From Colorado, Los Angeles, New York, England, Nigeria, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, China and Germany. All were impressed by the renovated historic buildings with painted ceilings and the excellent central location with a stunning view of the Neckar River and the historic centre and they all took proper care of everything. I had very nice short meetings with my guests. Overall, the level of privacy is very high because there is a completely separate entrance and staircase to the apartment. I look forward to some more good experiences and to people who appreciate the peculiarity of this place. Your owner Ingeborg Henkell

WONDERFUL!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful villa and loved everything about it! So much better then a hotel, as you feel you are truly living in the city verses just visiting. The location is perfect - very close to everything! A short walk to cafes, stores and Philosophenweg. The old town is also a short walk away. The view from the house is spectacular - castle, old bridge, river - awesome! When we were looking for a rental, our son, who is studying in Heidelberg for a year, assured us it was in the most desired section of Heidelberg and he was right! Ingeborg is so friendly and was a wonderful host - always there is you needed anything but respected your privacy as well. Everything we needed was provided. We had a car with us and rented the garage as well which worked out well. We would highly recommend staying at this beautiful visit during your visit to Heidelberg - you will not regret it! Thank you again Ingeborg for a wonderful visit!

Best rental in Heidelberg!

  • 5 of 5

Our son is studying abroad at the University of Heidelberg for a year so our family visited him during Christmas break for one week. After searching endlessly on VRBO for the perfect place, we selected this historic yet very modern vacation villa. My husband and I slept in the large master suite with our younger son (14) next door in his own bedroom. Meanwhile, our college son enjoyed a private, smaller bedroom upstairs. This home is within walking distance to Old Heidelberg and although we had a car, we did not need it. Thank you Ingeborg for decorating with pretty outdoor white lights, a Christmas tree, silver stars on the floor-to-ceiling windows and for sending us a lovely red Christmas amaryllis! We all felt very much at home and look forward to visiting again soon! We wished we could have stayed for a month.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay. House is absolutely gorgeous. The dining room is a perfect place to enjoy a meal and the views of the river and old town. Everything is in walking distance grocery store, butcher, bakeries, restaurants and public transportation that you really don't need a car. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your needs. We based ourselves here for all our sightseeing adventures and this house was perfect for all our needs and I would highly recommend a stay here.

Wow, Villa Henkell deserves more than 5 stars.

  • 5 of 5

The villa is even more beautiful in person. It is stately, charming, cozy and elegant. Ingeborg has thought of everything to make your stay a pleasant one. It is in a perfect location with beautiful views, close to everything. We took advantage of the close proximity of the restaurants, shops, the open air market and the short walk to Alt Stadt. We would highly recommend this lovely jewel.

Incredible!

  • 5 of 5

Our family just got home from a stay at this gorgeous villa in a prestigious area of Heidelberg.Ingeborg was the perfect hostess. We were only there for 3 weeks and we feel we have met a friend and kindred spirit.Ingeborg is an expert at making you feel welcome. She is there for your every need and yet she gives you the ultimate privacy. She has taken great care in restoring this circa 1894 treasure. From the original painted ceilings to all the lovely woodwork, she has restored every inch. While preserving the beauty of the 19th century, she has uniquely complimented this spacious unit with updated bathrooms, kitchens and modern furnishings. You can't possibly need or want anything during your stay as she has everything you could dream of from plush towels to pots, pans and china, to deck chairs and even robes and slippers. You can't top the location! This villa is in the most desirable and safe area of Heidelberg. You can spend the day watching boats drift lazily down the Neckar, hop a ferry from the lawn below,or even take a slow cruise up the river to see surrounding towns.Above the villa you will find the famous Philosopher's Way.Pack a picnic and enjoy the city view at sunset.A wonderful way to end your day is by taking a moonlit stroll along the Neckar as you gaze at the illuminated castle.Within a 10 min walk is the busy Haupstrasse, the most vital shopping and eating area of the old city. Shops abound in this district with wonderful restaurants and bakeries. In the other direction you are just 15 minutes walk to Heidelberg's Castle where you can saunter around the lush grounds while peeking at views of the city below.Take a funicular to the top of the mountain and cast your eyes on the amazing countryside. Possibly one of our favorite places to hang out was down the street just 2 blocks from the villa,in the small, local section called Neuenheim. There is a lovely local farmers' market on Wed.and Sat.mornings.Our favorite restaurant,The River Cafe,is in the heart of this thriving, quaint neighborhood.Enjoy a lavish breakfast, lunch,or dinner while sitting at tables along the street. It is the perfect stop for the German tradition of coffee and cake between 3-4 pm.Try their Eiscaffe,a delicious cold coffee with two scoops of ice cream topped with whipped cream. You are also within a short walk to grocery stores, banks, and the local transit.Book this luxurious jewel! You won't be sorry.Thank you Ingeborg, our best to Moritz and we hope to return soon!

Warmly recommended. 6 stars from my side…..

  • 5 of 5

Life is beautiful ..... especially when you visit places and meeting people who makes your stay more pleasant, interesting and special. That's what happened to me when I came to Heidelberg and stay for 9 weeks in Guest house Villa Henkell.

The Villa is a work of art! Very special interior design and a beautiful restoration. The villa is fully furnished and equipped, focusing on all of your needs, even on the smallest needs that make you feeling like home. During the 9 weeks I didn't felt that something is missing. Most of the time I lived alone in the villa and for time to time I had gests that came to visit me for the weekends. All the things that I needed for my guests were provided too.

The location of the villa is great. 5-10 minutes' walk distance from the city center and the main shopping area. 3-5 minutes walking distance from the closes bakery, supermarket, deli and some restaurants. The view from the villa and the garden is beautiful and contributing to the feeling of the special atmosphere of the beauty of Heidelberg. The owner of the Villa is a very very nice and pleasant person. Taking care for every request, need and question. You always feeling that she is willing to help and give you the feeling that her villa is your home too. I warmly recommend on villa Henkell. 6 stars from my side…..

The location is very unique right on the River Neckar below the famous Philosophenweg overlooking the historic centre with the historic town hall illuminated at nights.

Original paintings of 1894 portrayed on the ceilings.

All south-facing windows have awnings. From the Buchsgarden you can have a view of the castle, which is a feast for the eyes especially when the castle lights are on. A private terrace is right in front of the bedrooms.

2 sun loungers and parasols are provided.

In the Buchsgarden lying in front of it there are benches to relax and enjoy the idyllic view, this is adjacent to a highway with a speed limit of 30. My previous tenants have still preferred sitting there. Within walking distance you can reach everything, even the wonderful weekly market and the best shopping centres and several restaurants.

The villa was built in 1894 by Mutschler, the manufacturer of fountain pen, and was completely renovated in 2005. The historical paintings, parquet flooring, terrace, natural stone floors with under floor heating, a wood-panelled room, the beautiful historical spiral staircase between the bedrooms and living rooms and the high quality design make this apartment a memorable one. There could be no better place to stay in Heidelberg than this one!
