About Ryan Albrecht-Wood

We moved to Oahu on a whim almost ten years ago, and now have built our life here with a growing family to boot! The North Shore is magical, as many have found, and this is our way of sharing it. We live and breathe this gorgeous place, and are always happy to give suggestions on our favorite spots to make your stay even more special. For many visitors, Hawaii is a once in a lifetime vacation, and this is a constant reminder just how lucky we are to live here!

Great North Shore Spot!

  • 5 of 5

Plumeria Cottage was a great little spot for our party of 3 (Mom and two boys) - quiet neighborhood, close beach access, appropriately stocked home. Owners Ryan and Casey are quickly responsive to any concerns. While I could see the bedrooms getting a little stuffy, the cottage is breezy and clean; the front half to a larger 3 bedroom option the owners also offer. The mattresses are quite comfortable. Bikes, an assortment of snorkeling gear and boogie boards are available for use and there wasn't anything we couldn't have cooked in the well appointed kitchen area. Only one thing really to mention - we are short people (I'm the tallest at 5'2"). The kitchen cabinets are curiously hung from the ceiling, so the little stepstool got a workout!

We would definitely return to Plumeria Cottage if the opportunity arose again - but for the difference in price I would check out the larger unit listed as Plumeria Hale.

December and January visits

  • 5 of 5

My colleagues and I were looking for a different place to stay, other than in Honolulu, while we were on Oahu for work related to our business back home in Minnesota. We heard about this place from another colleague of ours who stayed there a year prior to us, so we booked it in advance for our two trips to the island. We were there for one week in December and another 3 weeks in January. We found it to be exactly like they showed and described it. It is a well maintained cottage with all the amenities we needed while we were there. It is a very clean cottage, in a nice quiet location not far from all that we needed. I am looking forward to returning to this cottage again when we have to come back for work again at the end of the year. I give this place 5 stars. I liked it that much. It was home away from home for us.

The perfect compliment to our family vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

My sister, whom lives 20 minutes from the North Shore, recommended I look into booking a cottage over a hotel. I'm happy I did! My kids and I fell in love with this town. The Plumeria cottage was the perfect place to relax after our days adventures. We loved waking up to the sweet sound of crashing waves and the smell of ocean. VERY COZY! The cottage has everything you could possibly need to feel at home. Thank you for creating and sharing your beautiful home with others. I recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing, memorable stay in the North Shore.

Comfortable, convenient location.

  • 4 of 5

Great for accessing beaches on north end of Oahu. Grocery and other shops close in nearby Haleiwa. We didn't realize that because of big waves this time of year there is literally no safe place to swim. Check online for times when there are big waves and make sure you rent somewhere that has a pool.

Cute Cottage on Lovely North Shore

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Plumeria Cottage.

It was our (two single women) first stop of three among the Hawaiian Islands and we couldn't have been more excited!

The cottage is clean and comfortable. Right across the street from the ocean. I loved the picturesque white picket fence around the yard. Both bedrooms have queen size beds which suited our needs perfectly. Good size bathroom (no bathtub) and the kitchen was nicely stocked. There is no indoor dining area, but we had all of our meals at home on the Lanai. Drinking wine, watching the sun set, and listening to the ocean... It doesn't get much better than that!

The location on the North Shore is very nice. We went into Waikiki one evening for dinner which we didn't feel was an overwhelming trip just for the evening. The town of Haleiwa (close by) is lovely and quaint.

The beach across the street from the cottage isn't THE best for swimming, but we did spend half a day there (and did swim a little bit) and enjoyed it very much. When you look back inland from the beach the view of the mountains is amazing!

We enjoyed the food trucks on Oahu, snorkling at Shark's Cove, the lagoons at Ko Olina (great for swimming if you have children), and the amazing patio at Duke's in Waikiki. Watch out for the Portuguese Man of War - tiny blue jellyfish like creatures that can inflict a painfull sting! My friend got stung by one near Kaneohe, which is really not very close to the Plumeria Cottage, but it's still good to be aware. Apparenlty the news stations will tell you if there are any of these little suckers around, they usually wash ashore in groups.

The cottage is not air conditioned, and as two Canadian girls we did find it a little on the hot side! Although, a local told us that the hurricanes going on in other parts of the world were sucking Hawaii's trade winds which usually keep the islands comfortable. I really did not mind the heat, but my friend had a harder time dealing with it. It might not be the ideal place for someone who is very sensitive to extreme temperatures, although as I mentioned, it was hotter than usual when we were there. There are ceiling and pole fans throughout the cottage.

Overall, it was a great kickoff to our Hawaii adventure! I did enjoy staying in a stand alone building as oppposed to a condo building. The owner was very nice to deal with as well!

Wonderful Cottage Stay

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend the Plumeria Cottage to anyone looking to stay on the North Shore. The cottage was big enough for four adults to stay in comfortably. The entire house was extremely clean. The kitchen came fully equipped with everything we needed to make meals multiple times. There was great reading material located in multiple areas as well as plenty of items to take down to the beach. The beds were both full sized and extremely comfortable. Full sized washer and dryer in the backyard came in handy to do a small load of our travel clothes. The owners of the cottage made our stay more enjoyable than we could of ever imagined. I can't wait for our next trip to Hawaii and to have our stay at the cottage.
