A unique, 80 year old Laguna writer's home, still owned by original family. The house is three bedrooms, two baths, set on a half acre of wooded hillside, six blocks from the beach, one mile south of downtown Laguna Beach, near BlueBird Canyon.
One of Laguna's early homes, built simply with pine walls and floors, the house has a good-sized living and dining room with a wonderful fireplace.
Soaring eucalyptus trees planted around the perimeter of the property in the 1920s host a variety birds and migrating monarch butterflies. The natural, spacious landscape encourages the play of children.
The beach is a short walk from the house and offers a fascinating
change of scene as tides work their way in and out.
Perfect as an artist or family retreat.
Please take the time to offer up an evaluation of the type of vacation opportunity this cottage has to offer. We appreciate your comments.
We visited Laguna Beach to attend a friend's wedding and the cottage checked off every item on the list. It was only a few blocks from the wedding reception, close to the beach, ocean views off the deck and yet the cottage was secluded in the trees. Every room was unique and comfortable. Both the fireplace and duvet were appreciated as I had forgotten about cool nights living in the low desert. I only wish I could have stayed longer--it's the perfect place to relax. The owner couldn't have been more accommodating. The cottage is a tranquil gem. Thanks, Annette, for sharing "her."
Loved having a wood burning fireplace and deck to watch the sunset, and walk into town for dinner. I hope to come back.
We were very pleased with our stay in this great cottage! Our son was married in Laguna and being from the east coast we wanted a place for us and our daughter with her family. The house worked great! Lots of relatives gathered on the property - the only draw back was the apartment sized stove but having a propane and charcoal grill available we were able to pull meals off. Everyone who visited was impressed with the place and the location was just beautiful....watching the sunset from the deck with our evening meal.
We enjoyed our stay. the house was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was an ocean view through the trees and we watched the sun go down. Thanks for sharing your home.
If you are seeking the vanilla, modern type accommodation, this place is not for you. If you are looking to go back in time, interested in the history of this home/area, enjoy the quiet and simple things in life then this place is for you. It's not to say that you will be completely disconnected as this home is equipped with high-speed Wifi Internet access and comes with a washer/dryer, etc. Even though there was TV/cable we never watched it. Spent most of the time walking on the property, enjoying the ocean view from the patio deck, and marveling at the construction of the home and reading the story behind it. There is no air conditioning but there seems to be a never ending amount of cool breeze coming from the ocean (stayed here in the middle of August where the temperatures were in the mid 80s) and lots of shade from the many beautiful trees lining the property. The owner does provide electric portable fans if needed.
The house was built in the 1920s. Its free from drywall and concrete slab floors. Its all wood and with that comes nostalgic properties like the creaking sounds as you step on the wood floors. The property is clean, well kept and the owner (Annette) is accommodating, reasonable and friendly.
I would add that if you stay here, to respect the property by being gentle with opening and closing of doors and windows as its all thin wood framed, many of which are original pieces.
My family and I really enjoyed the time spent here and we can't wait to visit again. I personally would like to stay here during winter season and hopefully have some rain so I can hear the raindrops hitting the roof... :-)
The house couldn't have been more perfect and the owners are lovely to deal with. My children are asking if we can stay in the same place next summer!
