Cedar Run is located a few minutes north of Fort Bragg in the sunbelt, and on the ocean-side of Highway One. Why pay Mendocino prices for a WIND-swept property that can often be foggy, when you can have it all in this quite-often sunny, secluded and tranquil setting?
Enjoy all the comforts of home: Full kitchen w/side by side refrigerator & all the amenities, two bedrooms ~ sleeping a family of six comfortably; plus, a new King TempurPedic mattress in the master BR; 1 flatscreen TV w/DVD player in the livingroom (satellite), and smaller flatscreen upstairs, w/DVD player only. We have a dormer loft (sleeps 4) w/attached bathroom; Master Bedroom w/attached full bath/shower on main level.
The Sundance spa, situated on a generous deck, faces it's own beautifully tree-lined meadow. Outdoor dining area on deck includes table/four chairs & umbrella for the pleasures of al-fresco dining at it's finest.
Property offers over 12 private acres for hiking, sunbathing/relaxing, hot-tubbing, or, playing board games /cards on the deck. The kids will love it! Plenty of room to run with a tire swing near the meadow. On the other hand, you can find the peace and quiet we all seek to escape the stresses of traffic and crowds found elsewhere.
A 30-minute walk to your own private beach is a must; or, a short distance north is Ten-Mile Beach, where parking is right at the beach.
We've tried to provide all amenities for your enjoyment away from home ~ you need only bring your groceries and coffee beans!
In addition, our property is designed to accommodate the physically challenged, as there are only three steps on the front porch before entering the house.

We enjoyed visiting the Mendocino Coast for many years, so when the first opportunity presented itself to purchase a lovely plot of land, we took full advantage. Having Cedar Run built to our specifications, was very rewarding and we've enjoyed the property ever since.
We like sharing this comfortable, all-cedar home with family and friends and offer it for your enjoyment, too!
Your Hosts, Jim and Shirl Gay
The Mendocino Coast is home to THE best abalone diving in the world!! We have provided an outdoor shower/sink for those who participate in this sport.
Jim & Shirl:
We had a wonderful time at Cedar Run. It's great that you hold things to such a high standard. Just to let you know, we were married right where the dunes start, on the Wednesday of our stay. It was such a perfect setting, that we want to book for next October to celebrate our first anniversary.
This home is very private. It is far enough from hwy 1 that you are not aware of the highway. All you hear is wind in the trees and the crash of the surf beyond the dunes. The views from the back deck are woods and fields. One of the best features is the fact you can walk out the door, go out to the dunes or the beach without crossing a road or seeing another person. The meadow directly behind the house is quite lovely and LARGE. Our German Shepherd who is a Chuckit fanatic got to run till he could run no more (which takes a bit). Yes the place is dog friendly. I'm sure kids would love it too.
While the place feels like you're your deep in the country, in reality downtown Fort Bragg is maybe about ten minutes away. Access to shops, restaurants and activities is actually pretty convenient.
The house is nicely appointed and very comfortable. When we were last here it rained a lot so we spent more time than usual indoors reading and we felt in no way deprived. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped. My wife enjoys cooking and found the selection of equipment to be good and basic spices and some staples are provided. You won't have to purchase every little thing if you wish to cook for yourself. Everything has been clean and well maintained when we've been here.
In a nut shell, we like coming to Mendocino. This is the place we will book whenever we can.
Actually one minor thing. the driveway is gravel with a kind of high center in a few places. We alway drive a Jeep or our Subaru station wagon and it's no problem and I imagine most vehicles wouldn't have an issue. However, if you drive a seriously slammed Porsche or BMW you might want to not bring it. Certainly inquire when you book.
we rented this house for a Christmas get away with our adult children. We all met up at the house and we were certainly pleased! The house was cozy and comfortable. The owners put some Christmas touches around the house which we added to. The house is very private. It had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the walk to the beach! The ocean and dunes were awesome. It was one of the best Christmas celebrations we've ever had. Thank you Shirl and Jim for making our stay a memorable one
Location is great, lots of room indoors and out. Our dogs loved it also! The house had everything you could need and the spa and wood stove where a welcome bonus. The binders with house information and local attractions were very helpful. You can hear the pounding of the surf from the back deck. We hiked to the beach and had it all to ourselves. Well worth the trip. We had many visits from the local residents - deer, blue jays, humming birds, etc. This property is a real gem. We will definitely be back for a longer stay!
We had a FANTASTIC August vacation at Cedar run. We hiked the dunes and went beachcombing nearly every day, then soothed our sore muscles in the hot tub every night. We saw two beautiful sunsets and enjoyed two amazing full or near-full moon nights. Our dogs were in heaven. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful property. Lots of nature to see and hear, right from the deck of the house! All different kinds of birds, including hummingbirds; deer; wild turkeys; and we even saw a bobcat in the driveway one afternoon.
While you're in the area, try to visit Pacific Star winery in a few miles north in Westport. The quality of their reds and use of lesser known grapes is great, and the property is breathtaking.
We found ice cream sandwiches in the freezer when we arrived and thoroughly enjoyed them after our long walks, so we bought more and left several for the next vacationers. :-) Can't wait to go back!
There were six of us which included three generations of our family, ranging in age from 4 to 86, enjoying a lovely three night mini-vacation at Cedar Run. We found Shirl & Jim a real pleasure to communicate with & they were very attentive to our questions. Directions to Cedar Run were easy to follow. The Informational Binder provided at the home was helpful with regards to Fort Bragg/Mendocino Emergency Numbers, secondary contact names & phone numbers, & suggestions of favorite restaurants.
The location of Cedar Run was perfect as we had other family members camping at MacKerricher State Park which made for an easy drive to the campground when we wanted to visit with them. We fell in love with Cedar Run as soon as we opened the front door. The family room was lovely. The oak dining room table was spacious and beautiful. The kitchen was comfortably set up and easy to maneuver around for food preparation. The downstairs bedroom was very pretty and the bed extremely comfortable. The upstairs loft beds were very comfortable as well. The deck was quite spacious and the view of a lovely, serene, tree-lined meadow was spectacular. We enjoyed having tranquil & relaxing time in the spa as well as visiting around the patio table. We went for a leisurely, enjoyable, and most interesting walk to the private beach. We were most impressed by the solitude and quiet surroundings of Cedar Run. We felt safe & secure during our stay. Cedar Run was indeed a most pleasurable & memorable get-away for us to forever remember. It was the perfect home-away-from-home. We truly had a marvelously relaxing time and we look forward to staying again in the future.
Thank you Shirl & Jim for your hospitality.
My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights at the Cedar House. We had a great experience and I was really pleased that I chose this place for our getaway. We loved the privacy and the feeling that there was nobody around. The place exceeded my expectations. There was plenty of firewood to keep the place cozy and the kitchen had everything that we needed to prepare our meals. The wifi was pretty important to us as our ATT cell phones didn't really work well there. It was strong a solid for our entire stay.
We spent most of our time hiking and mountain biking in the redwood forests at Russian Gulch. That has been our favorite mountain bike trip so far. It was GREAT to come back and sit in the hot tub after a long day playing in the forest. Shirl was responsive and easy to work with. If you choose this place you will not be sorry.
