4 bedroom, 2 bath/shwr rooms, sleeps maximum of 10, self-catering in French Alps
The chalet is one of the best located in the resort and is very well furnished and equipped for self catering. You can walk 200 yards along a woodland path and then join a blue run to start or end your day's skiing without using your car. There is parking for 3 cars next to the chalet. Accommodation comprises 3 bedrooms and a further mezzanine bedroom, two lounges, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 separate WC's, games room with table football, ski room with boot warmers, balcony and garden. Entrance is via the ground floor heated ski-room, and then up to the 1st floor where we have 2 lounges - one open plan with the kitchen and a separate TV lounge for the children, along with a bathroom / WC and separate WC. On the second floor we have two bedrooms (both with double beds), a shower room and another separate WC, the mezzanine bedroom area with 2 singles and the fourth bedroom with 2 bunk- beds and two single beds (usually for the children). The village centre is 15 minutes walk down the road, there is a free ski-bus that stops 100 yds from the chalet and we are very close to the ski schools.
The Village: Les Gets is as little as 7 or 8 hours drive from Calais, all on motorways except for the last 25 miles or one hours drive from Geneva Airport. The skiing links into Morzine and Avoriaz (2400 metres) directly. It is part of the largest international linked ski area in the world with 420 miles of pistes spread across 12 linked resorts. The area is suitable for all levels of skiers including beginners. The village has 2 French ski schools and the British Alpine Ski School. The night life is friendly and relaxed with many English speaking shops, restaurants, bars and discos and an indoor swimming pool, outdoor skating rink, health & fitness centre and cinema if you don't ski.
Summer: Walking Alpine trails and mountain biking are probably the top summer attractions in Les Gets but you can also use the 18-hole golf course at 1700 meters high, a swimming lake and water park, play tennis or go horse riding. Archery is possible, along with white water rafting, rock-climbing or paragliding if you're bored. Many people take day trips to Annecy which is beautiful or to Evian and Lac Leman (lake Geneva) less than 30 minutes away. There is also a superb new adventure park built in the forest for adults and children to swing from tree to tree on wires

OK chalet, great ski-area, hands-off owner,
Les Gets is a nice town near Morzine with its own buzz. Plenty of bars restos and shops. Loads of stuff going on; vin chaud parties on the piste, ski demos etc. The chalet is 30mins walk up a steep hill, but in a quiet area with good views. Buses are every 30mins. It’s not walking distance to the piste. Nearest lifts via bus are Les Folliets (up the hill) or down the hill to the centre.
Les Gets has some of the best skiing in the area but is low, therefore not snow-sure but is very pretty with tree-lined runs. The Porte-de-Soleil ski area is technically the biggest in Europe but I think that’s misleading. Some links are tenuous and it’s a struggle to get from Les Gets to Avoriaz. The lifts on either side of Morzine are separated by a bus journey, then, ascending into Avoriaz there is only one route which can be a hellish bottleneck at busy times. Once you’re up there you’re above the trees; there’s plenty of skiing and you can get into Switzerland.
The chalet is nice, well equipped and the lounge/kitchen is a good size, with a big dining table. There are 2 lounges and 3 bedrms; Ski storage and table football in the basement. There is a TV (bizarrely only receives UK TV) and DVD player. The wifi is basically useless. The chalet is well kept altho some aspects a little quaint - eg you can’t have the shower and cooker on at the same time. As with all ski accom you need to knock 2 people off the stated capacity- 2 of the beds are on the landing behind a curtain.
The owner’s approach is hands-off. Nobody local manages the property so if something doesn’t work you’re stuck with it. The boot driers were not working during our stay. No-one checks or cleans the apartment so you are at the mercy of the previous occupants' cleanliness. There is therefore considerable paranoia from the owner about the cleaning; there are notes EVERYwhere. I’m afraid to say this lends a slightly unwelcoming tone. I’d have preferred useful information about the local buses, restaurants, piste access, ski hire etc.
Bedsheets are optional and delivered by the laundry guy. Towels, weirdly, are not provided at all. Odd system of posting the key to you (and you post it back), which is asking for it to be lost. But this hands-off approach is reflected in the price.
We had a great holiday, good price and it’s a fantastic place to ski. Just be aware most similar chalets offer more service, despite what the owner might tell you.
Excellent Ski Trip in Chalet Felire
We have been skiing in port du soleil area for the past 5 years and Chalet La Felire was perfect location. A free ski bus is just a short walk from the top of the drive which runs regularly to town and drops off at main lift in Les Gets.
The size, layout and facilities in the chalet was great, and easily accommodated a group of nine adults and still felt spacious.
The overall layout of the chalet was perfect for a social holiday the large kitchen and dinning table for group dinners.
The chalet was clean and tidy and as described in the description. The owners were accommodating with last minute changes to the group size and provided a great welcome pack sent out before our trip.
We had a fantastic holiday at Chalet La Felire and would highly recommend a visit.
Thanks for taking the time to write a review Jonathon, hope to see you again next year
Perfectly located pretty chalet with great facilit
We had an excellent stay in Chalet Felire. Location was a short walk from the free bus service stop either into town or blue slope to ski down. Either way a 5 min bus ride. Facilities were great, with wet area for gear including boot warmers. There was also a good quality table football that the kids really loved and the owner (Stuart) was always on hand if we had questions. Would use again.
Peter - very pleased you had a good time; I look forward to hearing from you soon for next year
A great family holiday!!
The initial booking process and communications with Stewart were very easy and he was happy to answer any questions leading up to our stay in Les Gets. La Felire is a lovely chalet, very well heated and with lots of space for the number of guests it accommodates. There is a well equipped kitchen / diner / living room meaning nobody is stuck in the kitchen on chores. The second lounge (also with TV) means that there is plenty of room for the group to spread out. The addition of the games room (table football) in the basement is such a bonus meaning there is a THIRD space in which people can enjoy their time away from the piste. The bedrooms are larger than some we have stayed in with plenty of hanging space / hooks in all rooms. The fact that there are three toilets is yet another bonus. We were a party of 9 (parents, grandparents and 2 children) and the chalet afforded us loads of space for the different generations. Hot water was plentiful and we never needed to use the extra electric shower (which does require guests to isolate the cooker and heating during use). The BEST feature of the chalet though, is the entrance / boot room with ample space for everybody to store skis, boots (on a heater...) and other 'stuff' before moving up into the main part of the chalet. There is plenty of parking space and the stop for the bus which runs down into Les Gets is a very short walk away - even when carrying skis. The only reason for this being a 4* review as opposed to 5* is that the owner relies on guests to clean the chalet at the end of their stay and there is no cleaning service available even if guests were prepared to pay extra. This adds uncertainty to the arrival as outgoing guests might not have taken the cleaning requirements as seriously as they could and incoming guests might then have to start their holiday by bringing the chalet up to the standards of hygiene and cleanliness that they expected.
Hi Carrie, Apologies for the previous group not cleaning as well as you'd have liked; honestly it's a very rare comment and the vast majority of people leave the house just as clean as the professionals or better; Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to write a detailed review and really pleased you had a great time overall.
Lovely chalet, perfect place to spend Christmas
There were 10 of us staying here, some beginners and some experienced skiers. Having two living rooms was brilliant as we could watch tv in one whilst other played games or chatted. Despite there not being much snow (only one run was open) everyone had a great time. The ski bus was very regular, ski hire could be left in the village over night so there wasn't too much lugging stuff about. I would highly recommend it!
Great chalet, good location!
Chalet accurately described, owner supplies all information you need if you are new to Les Gets. Ideal for 1/2 family stay. Everything you need and free bus service is easy to use.
The chalet is situated on the main ski slope of the village, the Chavannes slope, just above the town. Ski: Les Gets is an excellent family ski resort: closeby beginners can learn on the easy slopes while there is plenty of great skiing for the experienced in the local area and some really challenging runs like the 'Swiss Wall' easily accessible too. Our chalet is close to the main Ski schools and to the creche facilities so it is easy to drop your children off before going skiing yourself.
