Our cottage is located on the beautiful north shore of Maui 12 miles from the Kahului Airport. We have a 2-acre estate which is totally fenced in and sits on top of the hill with ocean views and the islands of Maui and Molokai on the horizon.
The cottage has a full kitchen, high speed wireless internet, washer-dryer, phone, TV/VCR, and sleeps 2-5 people depending on your wishes. There is a large master bedroom with a king size bed and a very comfortable foam futon couch in the living room. The other bedroom with a full size bed is on the front porch and has a separate entrance. This cottage is very private, clean and comfortable.
The property abounds with coconut, bananas, avocados, limes, grapefruit, papayas, lychee, mangoes, coffee, guava, lemons, and passion fruit. There is an acre and a half of open lawn to relax on or for children to enjoy.
Haiku is the old pineapple center of Maui, and they are still grown in nearby fields. There are many shops and and excellent restaurants close by.
There is usually a breeze blowing and the temperature gets down to 70 at night and up to around 80 in the daytime.
Gregg and Danielle have lived in Hawaii since they were 18. Gregg is a retired jeweler/gem dealer who now is a glass bead artist. Danielle spends her time growing orchids and tropical flowers on their property. Gregg is a classic car guy and there is always something interesting in his garage. He has a 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra and a 1959 Porsche Carrera Speedster. Guests may want to ask him for a ride.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1988
Haiku is all about open space and cool ocean breezes. We are both water people and need to be close to the beach. Maui's historical past is still alive in Haiku, a great alternative to the resort area on the other side of the island.
We enjoy avocados, coconuts, lemons, limes, oranges, papayas, jackfruit, coffee beans, and more. We also grow many tropical flowers and orchids. You will feel like it's your own home every time you come up the palm lined driveway.
Very nice locatiom
We had an amazing stay in this beauitful, clean cottage for the week. My parents joined us for their first Hawaii experience, and we couldn't have asked for more a better experience. Gregg and Danielle were friendly and so helpful with their suggestions and recommendations. They also were flexible and allowed us a real late checkout since no one was coming in right after us, which was so thoughtful! The property is well-maintained and provided gorgeous scenery to view. It was so refreshing to have a home base away from all th tourism and resort areas as long as you don't mind driving.
You won't regret booking this cottage!
This was the perfect place to stay on Maui. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and it was located within striking distance of surfing, hiking, snorkeling, and great places to eat. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
Gregg and Danielle's estate overall is gorgeous, you would love walking from your car to the cottage every single time. At night, you are able to see so many stars when the skies are clear.
Gregg is very pleasant to deal with prior, during and after the trip. He will answer all of your questions, and be very accommodating to your needs. He even mailed us something that we forgot at his own expense.
The Cottage it self has all you need for an excellent stay, and even though it does not have Air Conditioning, it is Hawaii, and not many places actually have it. The fans and the wind it self will be enough.
The location for us was great, to experience Maui as a local. It is located in Central Maui, on the north side, so there are really not that many beaches that you can actually go and swim on this side, but if you are a paddler and are doing Maliko runs, the Gulch where you launch from is only 10 minutes away. The Hana highway is 3 minutes away, and you are at a point that if you wake up early, you will have most of the waterfalls to yourself or very few people.
Everything else is a drive, but we didn't mind. The drives are gorgeous.
I will highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here if I come back to Maui one day!
Thank you Gregg for everything!
Our family of four had a wonderful stay at Gregg and Danielle's cottage. It really felt like we were experiencing the real Maui, away from the resorts which are not our scene. The cottage was quiet and peaceful, clean and comfortable. The master bed was incredibly comfortable! My younger son slept on the sofa-bed in the living room, and our older teenage son had the garden bedroom to himself, so we did not feel crowded at all. The cottage felt spacious, and was even nicer than the photos on the VRBO website suggested! Being able to walk outside the cottage and being able to enjoy all of the space outside was lovely; for example, we played ball games on the big lawn and hung out on the lanai, and enjoyed watching the geckos and birds. There is also a back deck with a washer and dryer. The kitchen is really well equipped, and there is a nice charcoal BBQ on the lanai. The bathroom is nice, with a good shower but no tub.
Gregg and Danielle were the perfect owners - they were there when we needed to talk to them, but the cottage felt very private as we didn't really see much of them! Gregg was so kind in taking our youngest son out in one of his cars, which our son will never forget! And he gave us great recommendations for beaches, snorkelling spots and interesting things to see and do. And he was nice enough to wait up for us on the night we arrived, as we came in on a late flight.
Haiku is a cool little village with a little strip mall with a supermarket, hammock store, post office, food trucks etc, just a short drive from the cottage. And you can also walk up the street to a nice cafe (Baked on Maui). Haiku is close to Paia and also to the beginning of the Road to Hana, and the area is very lush, green, and has a tropical feel to it. We really enjoyed driving around all of the little villages nearby and exploring the area. It is a short drive to Hookipa Beach where you can watch the surfers/windsurfers and there are turtles sunbathing on the beach.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we are ever lucky enough to return to Maui!
My wife and I along with our son, daughter-in-law and 6 year old Granddaughter from Japan had a fantastic time staying in Gregg & Danielle's secluded cottage in Haiku. For our tastes this was a perfect location. What great hosts they were. There were lovely plants and flowers all over the place. The bowl of giant Avocados & bananas right off of their land was a real treat.
Everything was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with all that was needed. We appreciated the good recommendations for nearby eateries, grocery stores and beaches.
If we ever return to Maui this would be our first choice for accommodations.
