Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank-you Thanl-you Thank-you! Everything was perfect. You have thought of EVERYTHING to make anyone feel right aat home in "your" home! I had planned on unpacking and going straight to the store to pick up "necessities" - but you had everything we needed already here. The kids were so excited about the "stocked" fridge in the game room! We used the bon fire, the hot tub, and the game room! I couldn't believe you even had a GPS for us to use. (I could have left mine at home) We even had our family come out to visit one day - we were so proud to show off your beautiful home! We especially enjoyed sitting on the front deck in the sunshine. I was so lucky to find your house to rent. Thank you so much for sharing it with our family - I am SO happy we did not end up at a hotel! It was perfect!

Our second visit...

  • 5 of 5

We have returned to Portland and were happy to find the 1908 House available for our use. Thanks again for a wonderful place to make a "base" camp for our Norther adventures. Once again it was stocked to the hilt with all that we could possibly think of. We love your kitchen and the fact that you have included all we need to prepare our meals at the house. And what a great BBQ! We sat by the firepit in the rain! It was just too nice.

See you again in the Spring.

The most amazing home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This house had so much to offer. We wound up having 10 people at the house and there was plenty of room for everyone. There are little hints and helpful tips everywhere, and beautiful little touches like poems on the chalkboards. The beds were very comfortable, and the house was clean and well kept. Remember that this house was built in 1908 so there are some quirks, which we absolutely loved.

The stairs going up to the third floor are very squeaky, so if you have kids who try to sneak out put them up there!

The yard is absolutely gorgeous and has everything you could need to entertain. We enjoyed both the front and back barbecues and felt like we were in a movie with how beautiful it was. All of the trees and plants were flowering, and there were gorgeous smells all over the place.

The front steps are a bit steep and narrow, so if you have someone with mobility issues have them use the side door.

The basement was the belle of the ball! The kids (both young and old) enjoyed the game consoles, board games, and air hockey, and there were more movies than we ever imagined.

Lisa was very responsive to us before and during our stay. She's the quintessential hostess, and made us feel very welcome.

Basically, if you appreciate a historic house with its charms and quirks, you like a well appointed home (as opposed to a basic sterile hotel), and you want to have FUN, this is a GREAT house. Follow the instructions clearly laid out around the house and you'll have a great time.

The only drawback? This house has ruined us for anything less!! We will most definitely be back!

Thank you, Lisa, for welcome us to your beautiful home!

Greatest find - beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

I grew up in Oregon City and still own a home there that I rent to family, but we live in the SF Bay Area now. We come back to visit all the time and this home was a brilliant alternative to hotel life. We hosted dinner almost nightly! Home is clean and comfortable. Little notes are everywhere to help with "how does this work?" Owner is super friendly and responsive. We did not get to use the backyard due to the weather but It is a fantastic gathering spot! Kids loved the game room. We all agreed that it is a classic Oregon City home and would line up to purchase it should she ever decide to sell. Cannot overstate how comfortable the place is - it looks prim and fancy in the photos but every chair and every bed is awesome. We did not want to leave and plan to come back. You would have to be super uptight to find a flaw here as the owner has covered every detail. As with any old house, expect creaky floors and tricky locks and quirky light switches - it's all part of the charm.

Classic Craftsman Home in the heart of Oregon City!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and family rented this home for a week and as I live a short distance away, I have been there every night! This is a gorgeous well preserved home where families can kick off their shoes and relax. Everything is well stocked with notes of where and how to use things. This is a home where an era has been freeze framed with top notch modern amenities. The back yard is a plus as well. My grand daughters love the downstairs game room! Very private and it will be more so when the wisteria blooms along the fences. Lovely, charming, roomy and comfortable. Thank you for having my family enjoy a stress free week in your welcoming home!

This old house

  • 1 of 5

We rented this house based on location for a short weekend stay.

Here's our experience with this 1908 house and its owner.

1. door knobs - Main floor bath room door knob needs to be replace. Door knob came right off on the exterior and our guest was stuck in the bath room while we try to fix and reopen. Took 10 min to free the person. It's one of the 2 bath room that has shower facility so not being able to close the door was a true annoyance plus inconvenience!

Main entrance door doesn't locked. The door also has a tendency to swing open by itself.

Back entrance door knob is locking mechanism is so old it needs to be replaced.

2. Dirty pots- found dirty pots when preparing dinner. Why charge cleaning fees to previous rental when next rental have to clean up after them?

3. Basement - broken cupboard door that is off its rail and will fall on children. The basement also smell of pets and moisture. There wasn't any pool table as shown in the picture.

Smelly pillows that needs to be replace and blankets needs to be washed.

4. Communication with owner - our experience with owners from renting from VRBO have always been good. This is the first time we have come across one that is unprofessional. There wasn't any forms or house rule email to us before the date of rental. Whatever is online only covers part of her house rules. You have to go around the house to look for them.

We did take pictures of the broken door knobs, cupboard and dirty pots to protect our deposit. We also make sure all garbage and recycle are put in right containers etc. Even wash all towels and put them back where we got them.

It took us by surprise that owner called and claimed that we broke the cover of the Jacuzzi. We tried to communicate with her numerous times and have not heard back from her.

We understand that winter is a slow season for this business but we felt that her reason was bias and invalid to not return our deposit. Plus failing to respond to us trying to reach out to resolve her claim is totally unprofessional.

Owner's Response: This old house - Is 110 years of charm - and yes that sometimes comes with quirks. Unfortunately old glass door knobs can not be replaced only fixed - so this one was fixed. All doors and locks function as they should. Please be aware that when you make a reservation you are asked to sign a copy of our house rules. This covers the most important information, including the request that rules posted at the house (hot tub, check out procedures, etc) be followed (you can request a copy at any time). In this case, damage to the hot tub cover occurred when the large heavy cover was manually pulled completely off of the tub instead of using the cover "lift" mechanism. In doing so the cover material was torn. I do hope that the dozens and dozens of 5 star reviews out weigh the one unfortunate.

Beautiful home and amenities parades excellence!

Would love to go back in the summer and enjoy the yard....also when it's not raining. Sadly the rain and flooding caused a number of ussies but we still had a great time.
