About Sari Henley

Hotel Byblos and Casa Sarita owners who enjoy travel, and adventure. We are a relatively active couple who have set our feet as firmly in Manuel Antonio as in Austin, Texas where are kids and grandkids live. Davis is an avid motorcycle rider who rode his BMW from Austin, TX to Ushuaia, Argentina. Sari is content to spend time on the beach, or stay behind with kids and grandkids. She did ride on the back from Santiago, Chili to Ushuaia, and then on to Buenos Aires. Summer finds them in Northern Wisconsin where Sari's family has had a cabin for 65 years.

Sari Henley purchased this villa in 2014

Why Sari Henley chose Manuel Antonio

Rising Sun is located just five houses down from our beloved Casa Sarita. Davis was drawn to the property which needed an extensive renovation. The views were worth all the hard work he put in from May, 2014 to Christmas, 2014. It has turned out better than we ever dreamed, and we will enjoy our time here and sharing it with our clients.

What makes this villa unique

Full use of Byblos Hotel is included in all rentals at Rising Sun. The home has two separate buildings, so it is great for family reunions and also weddings. The large deck and bar area above the guest house are perfect for celebrations of any type with fabulous Pacific Views

Guestbook comments from the owner

"For a large family this was an ideal place to stay in Manuel Antonio! We had tons of room, the kids spent hours in the pool when we were not doing activities in the area. There were 11 people in our party. The home was very clean, well maintained and just plain beautiful. Having access to the Byblos Hotel just up the hill (and I mean straight up the hill!) was extra special in that we had lunch and dinner there and they made all of the tour reservations for us. We met the owners and they made our pre-trip arrangements and our week in their lovely home truly special. Due to the terrain, this home is not well suited for a handicapped person or someone with difficulty climbing stairs. Our kids and grand kids will have memories of a lifetime! Thanks for sharing your home in paradise."

Private Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We searched through several properties to find the perfect house for our family. We wanted to take our adult children and their spouses to a place where everyone would have privacy and a comfortable room. Rising Sun was the perfect choice. We enjoyed many hours in the pool and playing pool on the recently added pool table, having barbecues, and watching the monkeys. We even saw a couple of sloths from the back balcony. The house is in a great location, with wonderful restaurants and beaches within walking/hiking distance. The staff was wonderful, the property was exceptionally clean and well-maintained and we felt very safe in the neighborhood.

Although all of the beds were very comfortable, I would recommend only children would be comfortable on the futon beds. The driveway is very daunting for a driver from Arizona used to wide open spaces. But parking on the street was no problem since the neighborhood has 24 hour security.

The property was more lovely in person and we would definitely return!

Owner's Response: We are so happy your family had a memorable experience at Rising Sun. Monkeys and sloth seem to be at home there also. Being on a natural corridor for wildlife brings the nature right to our doors. We hope to see you back at Rising Sun in the future! Pura Vida, Sari & Davis

Absolutely a great house for families. Great staff and entertaining monkeys

  • 5 of 5

Our four families could not have had a better time. The waterslide was a big hit for the adults.

The grill and big kitchen was used because of a deep sea fishing trip and the hammocks for naps. The stars were the monkeys and we got to experience our first earthquake.

Looking for any excuse to come back......

Beyond all expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of 25 to 40-something year old friends who travel yearly. 13 of us traveled this year. This was our first time in Costa Rica and words do not exist to explain this beautiful country. You just need to go. Trust me.

...and when you go, stay at Rising Sun. This home had EVERYTHING we needed and then some. The pool is better than even the photos (if you can imagine that). The slide is awesome! I think the monkeys would agree. The view of the Pacific took my breath away every time I saw it—which was often since you see it from nearly every room and living space in the house. The kitchen had everything we needed and all high end. Example: you expect a blender, but you are beyond delighted to have a professional quality Ninja model. Am I right!?! My best friend and I were lucky enough to snag the master bedroom. Our personal deck had some of the best hammocks I’ve ever napped in (and the aforementioned view was visible from said hammocks!!!). The team that took care of us—most notably Wiston the groundskeeper/maintenance guy—made us feel safe and welcome. The hotel Byblos staff checked on us regularly and made us feel additionally welcome at their facilities. (Tip: their pizza is amazing). The WiFi in the house worked surprisingly well.

Hurricane Nate visited Costa Rica during our trip, and we did lose water and power temporarily. The owners of the house (Sari & Davis) were in constant contact to ensure that we were safe and comfortable. Hotel Byblos staff reached out to us as well and offered us rooms for use to weather the storm if we wanted them. Or, just shower facilities while our water was out (the outage was not long enough for us to need to take them up on this but what amazing hospitality for them to offer). The attention to our comfort and safety was unexpected and truly above and beyond. We almost felt guilty with all the attention as we never felt unsafe—just very wind blown and wet. As Oregonians we are used to that anyway. :) Nothing a pina colada can’t get you through.

Within easy walking distance there are multiple restaurants, bars, nightlife, and a convenience store. We even walked to a zip-lining place one day!

Parking was ample for our three rigs (Note: the driveway is steep but no big deal if you’re a decent driver. Tip: If you rent a car, get AWD or 4WD if you plan to travel around Costa Rica).

I could go on and on about this property. We have zero complaints. Thank you so much to our hosts!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Christopher! We feel the same, Rising Sun, in itself, is an experience. Between the beauty of the home, and the animals that visit us there, what's not to love. Pura Vida, Sari & Davis

Pictures don't do it justice!!

  • 5 of 5

Let me first state that while the pictures and descriptions of this house make it look cool, it's even better in person!! We had a family of twelve here for a week - 8 adults and 4 kids - and we had more than enough space for all. Each room had plenty of drawer and closet space, comfy beds, an AC unit and fans, and bathrooms. The kitchen was well equipped to cook for and serve large family meals. We loved the Edison lights above the dining room and the beautiful table (which made us all feel like kids who needed a booster seat haha!)!

The slide deserves it's own paragraph!!! As soon as we saw it in the pictures we knew the grandkids would love it, but the adults had just as much fun - if not more! That slide is no joke, you zoom down it and can execute amazing canon balls - only thing missing is splash score cards! We even got Grand pop to go down!! The daily monkey parades also provided countless hours of enjoyment each day with capuchin, squirrel, and howlers visiting. We even spotted a family of sloths in the trees poolside.

From booking with Sari, to making reservations with Elizabeth & Melissa, to spotting animals in trees and practicing our Spanish with Wiston, the staff here did a WONDERFUL job answering our million questions and ensuring we had an amazing time in Manuel Antonio. We picked several tours suggested by Sari and highly recommend the Safari Canopy Midworld, Night Hike, Waterfall Repelling, and Ocean King. We had dinner out at El Legarto and highly recommend it. A beach day is also a must!

We can't thank you enough for helping us celebrate our parents 70th birthdays and ensuring we had the trip of a lifetime! The kids are already planning our return!

Beautiful house. Stunning Views. Pura Vida!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from an amazing week in Costa Rica and had the best time at Rising Sun. The house is absolutely beautiful and was perfect for our group of 3 families - 6 adults and 6 teens. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have their own space. The kids especially enjoyed having their own retreat in the guest house! The villa sits right up in the canopy with the most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. We could have spent every day playing in the pool and enjoying the sounds of the jungle, but we loved exploring Manuel Antonio's beaches and the national park. We didn't need to rent a car - you can walk to restaurants and the grocery store, and taxis were just a phone call away, thanks to the wonderful help of Melissa and Elizabeth at Hotel Byblos. Jeanette and Winston were always smiling and took great care of us. But one of the highlights was our private chef for the week, Manuele Fratini! www.chefmanuelefratini.com Each morning we'd wake up and enjoy coffee on the balcony - our front row seat to a nature lover's paradise - while he cooked up the most delicious breakfasts. We'd repeat this later in the afternoon, cocktails in hand, watching the monkeys and sloths and toucans. He'd invite us inside to a set table, presenting a beautiful meal that rivals any 5 star restaurants. This allowed us to truly relax and enjoy our vacation – no cooking or cleaning!! And as a local, he provided some excellent suggestions for restaurants, beaches and activities! We did venture out to several restaurants while there – but you just can’t beat the view from Rising Sun. So why leave?!

A few tips:

In addition to Chef Manuele, hire Dago Mora as your guide in the park. He’s simply the best. Without him I’m sure we’d not have seen 90% of what he managed to spot! Melissa can help arrange.

The walk to Biesanz Beach is very steep and there’s very little shade on the road. It’s worth it – the cove is beautiful and there are chairs and umbrellas to rent. But if you’re not in shape, consider taking a taxi to the entrance of the path.

Find Butch on Playa Espadilla. He will provide the entertainment along with your food and drinks.

You will enjoy every minute at Rising Sun. Thank you, Sari, for an amazing week. We'll be back!

Pacific Rim Canyon is the premier private gated community off the main road connecting Quepos and Manuel Antonio Park. The home offers spectacular 180 degree ocean views in a jungle setting and regular visits from a variety of monkey species, yet is only 200 meters walking distance to the majority of the area's upscale dining and amenities, or bus stop. Playa Espadilla, aka Manuel Antonio, is located approximately 1 mile from Rising Sun. Playa Manuel Antonio has been listed as one of the Top Beaches in the World by Fodors, Trip Advisor, and other publications. The smaller, more private beach in the area, Playa Biesanz, is located about 1 mile from Rising Sun on the Mariposa Hotel Road. The Mariposa Hotel is listed in the book 1000 Places to See Before You Die. You'll want to go there for a sunset and check that off the list.
