About the property

3BR Forest/Park Vacation Rental South Lake Tahoe, California USA

The Tahoe Ski Chalet is a lodge-style home, with three-bedrooms, two-baths and it sleeps eight. It features an over-sized great room with a vaulted ceiling, a gorgeous used-brick FIREPLACE, and an antique Conestoga wagon wheel chandelier. After a long day on the slopes, washing coins in the slots, or shopping the outlets, the experience of sitting in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine or a mug of hot chocolate just can't be beat! The FOOSBALL TABLE is there for hours of entertainment!! When it's time to "veg out" and watch a movie or football game, you'll be impressed with the 50" HD FLATSCREEN TV.

The home is centrally located within five to seven minutes of world-class skiing, casinos, restaurants -- and, of course, beautiful Lake Tahoe. The home is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, protected from traffic and tourist noise; and it's less than one block from a national forest preserve which is perfect for hiking and biking in the summer. For the avid hiker, there is a gorgeous view of Lake Tahoe from the top of the hill. On your way, you'll come to a meandering stream -- complete with falls, where the kids can enjoy water fun while the adults enjoy a picnic lunch. It's perfect for those educational nature hikes. In the winter, many use the same area to go snow shoeing or cross country skiing.

After a long day of sporting activities or shopping at the outlets, try relaxing in the soothing HOT TUB, or lounge on the chalet's large deck while cooking steaks on the gas barbecue. If you prefer to cook inside, the kitchen is fully stocked with microwave, dishwasher, pots and pans, dishes, etc. All you have to do is buy the food. And when the day is done, each of the 3 bedrooms have comfortably appointed KING SIZED BEDS and 32" FLATSCREEN TVs. You'll enjoy the sounds of nature in this truly peaceful setting and home.

Cute, cozy cabin - exactly what we were looking for!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay here! It was super cute and cozy. The hosts were really helpful and got back with lockbox info as soon as they could. There were a few light bulbs out and no complimentary log (as noted in renter agreement), but other than that, our stay was perfect! Would definitely recommend/stay here again! Thanks!

Good location, not clean!

  • 3 of 5

I felt a little deceived by the pictures when I got to the property. It is in a pretty good location, we weren't too far from town. However, the pictures make it look more secluded, but it is in the middle of a neighborhood. Also it was not well cleaned. There were cobwebs all over and we found a dead mouse next to the fridge! And it looked like it had been there a while!

I will say the owners were really nice and easy to work with in booking. They offered to have the cleaners come back and clean, but we didn't want to disrupt our stay and have all the dust and germs from the mouse stirred up and in the air while were staying there. It just looked like someone hadn't cleaned too well in the first place, and hadn't been there in at least a month. Unfortunately I won't be staying here again.

Definitely returning to the Tahoe Ski Chalet..cozy, clean, comfortable and well stocked!

  • 5 of 5

What a gem! Grateful for the wonderful memorable stay for our family's Thanksgiving getaway! It's especially appreciated that if we ran out of our own staples and cleaning agents, the Ski Chalet's conveniently, well-stocked back-up would rescue us. The beds were most comfortable and very clean. The floor plan allowed for fun, family/social gathering and private time for reflection and rest. The excellent TV reception (4 large) gave us great kickback time after a long day. To avoid the crowds, we ate at the recommended nearby restaurants which had extremely good food at reasonable prices. But what I enjoyed the most was not having to cook as family brought Thanksgiving dinner to us! The charming, alpine neighborhood allowed for an after dinner walk. A wonderful time was had by all!

I was very pleased with this stay. Everything was as promised--wish the weather could have been better, but the homeowner can't control that! Hope to come back again....

Comfortable But Further From Town Than We Expected

  • 3 of 5

The house is further away from Downtown than we thought. Needs a better cleaning crew. Cobwebs in the bathrooms and patio area. 2 of the 4 resin chairs on the front porch were broken and all were dirty and needed to be cleaned. The back patio chairs needed to be cleaned off before we could sit on them too, but they were not broken. Some walls have stains on them where something has been splashed on them, dirty marks etc..., walls could be cleaned easily with some 409 cleaner and a sponge. TV in one of the bedrooms didn't work, the cable box had been disconnected so we plug in the cables and set the box back up and then it worked. Still had to figure out which remote to use as there were 3 in the bedroom. TV/Remote instructions would have been helpful. Microwave is very small and low wattage, could use an upgrade. Toaster burns your toast or if you turn it down then it barely toasts your bread, could use a new toaster too. Supply of Hand Soap and Toilet Paper was at a bare minimum. We were staying for 5 nights and one bathroom had a bottle of hand soap that was not even a 1/4 of the way full and the 2 bottles of hand soap in the bathroom cabinet were either empty or less than a 1/4 full too. Last day we had to share one roll of toilet paper between the 2 bathrooms. We had 5 women and 1 man in our group and I believe we had 1 partially used roll on the toilet roll holder and 1 extra roll in each bathroom when we arrived. Wouldn't hurt to leave a extra roll or 2 just in case it is needed. Ceiling fans in only 2 of the 3 bedrooms. No A/C, why would you not have a ceiling fan in all 3 bedrooms? One of the bedrooms with a fan but the fan was noisy so you had to turn it down to sleep. Jacuzzi worked and was clean. Most of these things could be fixed/cleaned relatively easily and at a minimum cost. The owner was helpful with questions we had about the area before we arrived and that was very much appreciated.

Owner's Response: Hi Pat, I have to say after all our chats prior to your arrival at the Chalet that I was surprised to get such a scathing review, especially given both the Rental Agreement and Instruction Letter request that if there is anything amiss at the house, please give us a call immediately. It is so frustrating to not be given the chance to make things right, or at least try to do so. In terms of the location, it states where the house is both on the Homeaway/VRBO site and our reply information to initial inquiries. We were in another home in Tahoe until the Sunday before you arrived, and I know that we had two days of high winds and so I’m guessing you were talking about a lot of pine needles on the chairs. Thank you for telling me about the chairs, toaster and the noisy fan. The cleaners have been made aware of the need to check each of the TVs, and to leave more toilet paper for the longer stays. You came in July 18th and wrote your review September 29th. Since your stay, we have had 14 groups of guests, and we hadn’t heard about any of these problems, so it is good to note these issues, which will be remedied.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time in the Lake Tahoe area. Heavenly resort area, beaches, casinos, parks are all just a short drive away from the house. The home was well stocked with everything we needed. The owner is very friendly and just a phone call away if we needed anything.
