The Art Nouveau villa which was built in 1899 is located approx. 300m² above the lake on an exclusive, secluded and sunny panoramic site, with some breathtaking views of the lake and the opposite shore. In 2006 the villa was extensively refurbished and, with much attention to detail, tastefully divided into newly-furnished 1 and 2-room appartments. A special feature are the beautiful stuccoed ceilings which reflect the charm of the villa. There is a washing-machine available for communal use by the guests. The rambling, partly sloping and park-like communal gardens (approx. 8.000 m²), together with the Villa Belvedere in Ghiffa, provide a pool, barbecue and, with in total 3 very sunny communal terraces, a wonderful opportunity to enjoy peace and solitude. The small path around the Mediterranean sloping garden, with its many trees, such as lemon, olive, almond, loquat, pomegranate, quince, etc. offer many delightful views and the chance to regenerate. If Goethe had walked through these gardens, he surely would have been inspired to quote his famous words: „To the moment I would say: but stay, you are so beautiful“. The vantage point Belvedere provides a splendid view of the lake and the opposite shore.
Sports enthusiasts may use the boccia track and a basketball pitch. There is a playground for children. Beneath the villa there is a public beach (accessible by ca. 180 steps), and the restaurant „Villa Bianca“ where you can not only enjoy the splendid view of the lake, but also culinary diversity. Nearby there is a corner shop for the daily necessities. You may park your car within the enclosed estate. To pack and unpack, you may park in front of the villa. Pets are not allowed.
2-room apartment “Rosa” on the 2nd floor, approx. 33m² living area: (for up to 2 persons + 2 children)
• Entrance area
• Light-flooded living-/dining room with pull-out couchbed (for 2 children for up to 12 years), SAT-TV and lateral view of the lake
• Well-equipped kitchen unit with micro-wave
• Bedroom with double bed (one matresse) and lateral view of the lake
• Attractive bathroom with shower and bidet
• Generous communal outdoor area comprising 3 sun terraces and the approx. 8.000m² park with mediterranean garden and fantastic view of the lake and opposite shore.
The location of the villa is very nice: close to intra (30mn by foot), close to the lake (there are stairs going down directly to the lake). The garden is large and very nice, with a swimming pool, a playground for kids, a belvedere, tents to be able to have dinner outside even if it rains, etc.
Only negative point, the apartment is quite small (one bedroom, and another room with living room+kitchen+bathroom). The pictures did not render how small it was (other apartments in the same property are bigger). I think it is OK for 2 adults and 2 kids, but probably too small for 4 adults. It is minimally equipped, especially the kitchen. Don't plan to be able to cook sophisticated dishes. We also regretted that there was no booklet in the apartment to give us info on what to do how to do things in the regions and in the property. Finally there are quite a lot of other apartments rented in the villa and in three other houses in the same property, so you will no be all alone. Luckily the garden is big and you will always find a quiet place to sit down somewhere.
Ghiffa (near Verbana: approx. 18.000 inhabitants) is located at the foot of Monte Cargiago and boasts many wonderful villas and an opulent vegetation. In 1987 the nature park Santissima Trinitá (200 hectares) was opened. 5 golf courses are within a 15-20 minute drive. There is a network of wonderful walking and hiking trails throughout the area, which also provides a rich variety of cultural, recreational and sporting amenities, guaranteeing ample entertainment and activities for all. The well-known towns of Intra and Pallanza are in the direct vicinity. Intra is famous for its market and beautiful historic town-centre. Incidentally, you can take the ferry from Intra to Laveno which is on the opposite side of the lake. Pallanza has Roman origins and a wonderful lake-side promenade, with inviting restaurants, cafés and shops. Here you can also visit the Botanical Garden (20 hectares) at the Villa Taranto, with over 20,000 rare species of flora from every corner of the earth. From Ghiffa, you can also take the ferry to the various surrounding places of interest, e.g. Ascona, Locarno, Stresa, the Borromeo Islands and Lake Orta which are all only about 30 minutes away.
