About Steve (Owner)

We've traveled a lot, always looking for that special place that had everything we were looking for: Tropical climate, Adventure activities, Night life, Beaches, history, beautiful homes and surroundings, and easy to get to. We found it all in Key West, and knew this was a place we could come back to again & again.

Steve (Owner) purchased this condo in 2008

Why Steve (Owner) chose Key West

We had been to Key West several times and stayed all over the island. But when we visited the shipyard condos in the Truman Annex, we knew this was the perfect spot. No more driving and searching for parking places, now we can walk or bike to everywhere we want to go -- activities, beaches, night life, exploring history, or just sit quietly doing nothing.

What makes this condo unique

Our home has a floor plan that is shared with only 2 other units in the Shipyard -- with these large porches front and rear. Both bedrooms have french doors that open onto the porch, and the living area has two more, that flood our home with natural light. We've tried to stock our place with everything we (and you too) would need for week in paradise. And we have very professional and attentive property managers who are as concerned as we are that your stay is relaxed and trouble free.

Guestbook comments from the owner

LOVED the CONDO!!! So the pick up of the keys is very easy. The customer service was amazing, they make contact with you several times to make sure that you know how to get the keys and are quick to answer any questions. Finding the condo was a little difficult, and the parking. I don't think it was due to the directions just the set up of the Condo neighborhood. It was so nice to have a parking place.

We hardly used our car since the condo is located near all the activities we wanted. The beach is like a 12 min walk away, Duval was 5 min walk, and Mallory square is like 15 min walk.

It was a great condo for my husband, 10 month old son, in-laws and myself. It is an upstairs condo. The beds are super comfy. The washer and dryer are very handy for the beach towels. Plus they have a dvd player for if you have a relaxing night in. The kitchen though small was able to prepare a dinner for four and had everything we could possibly need. The place was extremely clean and left us with a vacuum and broom and mop ( which is a must with a 10 month old).

The pool is great very clean, the hours are kind of strict ( closes at 8 pm) but that is mainly to keep the rift raft down. Excellent stay would stay again!!

Only complaint which had nothing to do with the actual condo, neighbors down stairs put their 4 mopeds on the front side walk blocking us from getting our stroller through, but security put a stop to that. And they were very loud at the end our stay partying till 4 am, again security was quick to handle it.

A Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect choice Steve and Karla's condo was for our first adventure in Key West. Their attention to detail in the bedrooms, bath, kitchen, etc. made the condo so comfortable for our week-long stay. There were some supplies available, like paper towels, laundry detergent, trash bags, toilet tissue to last until we made the short drive to Publix or Wynn Dixie. (No need to grocery shop BEFORE arriving in KW, as we thought we needed to do.)

The washer and dryer were a real bonus, and it was nice to bring CLEAN clothes home! The condo is within walking distance to so much; its location is super convenient. We highly recommend FORT ZACHARY TAYLOR S.P. for its beach and shady picnic area AND a quieter, but just as lovely view for Sunsets. (We paid the fee, then went back 2 more times that same day for the fort tour and later, for capturing the sunset.) We recommend LA CREPERIE for any meal - their paninis and dulce le leche crepes are mouth-watering. We enjoyed meals at CAROLINE'S, PINCHERS SEAFOOD, HAVANA CAFE, MANGIA, MANGIA and CONCH REPUBLIC SEAFOOD CO. (Note - a few restaurants like Blue Heaven and Sara Beth's were closed for most of Sept. We were disappointed.) We enjoyed WILLIE T'S and LITTLE ROOM JAZZ CLUB for live music. A beautiful, quiet stroll to the HARBOR WALK is down EMMA ST which takes you past the LITTLE TRUMAN WHITE HOUSE and the KW ART MUSEUM.

Off the island, we highly recommend ISLAND FISH CO on Marathon Key - we ate there coming and going. The food is exceptional, the service good and you can sit by the water. Also, check out the BLUE HOLE on Big Pine Key which is a small natural habitat where we saw alligator in the pond. While there, we ate at NO NAME PUB which was quirky and fun. Off the beaten path, but worth the trip for both. If you are looking for reasonable art, try the ARTISTS CO-OP. Note: if heat and oppressive humidity are not your thing, plan your trip for months other than Sept. We didn't know we had chosen the hottest month of the year for our trip. We would absolutely choose this lovely condo for a second visit to the Keys !

A Wonderful Condo in a Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

"At Home Key West" helped to make our stay in this colorfully decorated condo so easy. The restaurant booklet they provided steered us to some really scrumptious food. While only a few blocks from Duval Street, this condo's location was quiet, secure, and beautiful. We especially liked the ample light from the French doors in both bedrooms, which led to the huge front veranda. The back porch was lovely in the morning with lush foliage and flowers. This unit had everything provided, including beach towels, coolers, and beach chairs. We were able to ride our bikes all over town from this location and loved Fort Zachary Beach and Higgs Beach with its restaurant, Salute. A short walk along the harbor brought us to Mallory Square with its shopping and entertainment. Do not miss visiting the Butterfly Conservatory. Amazing! Although the kitchen was small, it was well equipped and the grill was a an added bonus. When we were exhausted from a day of sightseeing or swimming in the community salt water pool, a short walk brought us to three wonderful restaurants - Blue Heaven, Firefly, and La Creperie. There were 3 adults and 2 children in our group so the one bathroom proved to be a bit limiting. However, this was easily overlooked because the condo's other attributes were great. Comfy couch and beds! I loved the art work by Martha DePoo and thank the owners for their wonderful decorating sense. The condo made our two week stay so very enjoyable. Thank you and we look forward to another stay here.

IMMACULATE & INVITING KEY WEST CONDO

  • 5 of 5

Steve & Karla take hospitality to the next level by taking great care of the needs of vacationers to ensure a wonderful experience. Their spacious, fully equipped condo is walking distance to everything! We really loved being able to enjoy ourselves at our leisure in such a beautifully kept condo. We enjoyed so much during our stay...walking to Caroline's on 310 Duval St. for a great dinner, lounging on the gorgeous beach, swimming in the pool, shopping cool local art boutiques, seeing the super boats races and the sunset from Mallory Square.

After an eventful day, it was wonderful to come home to a warm and welcoming condo. I appreciate the luxury of A/C and taking a hot shower under the soothing rain shower head, then easily hang up my swimsuit/towels on the multiple drying racks after bathing. The quickness of the washer/dryer and hanging my clothes in the large closets plus organizing my things inside quality furnishings was an added bonus. An eye for detail and the serenity of the interior, we had the best nights sleep in the super comfy beds and it was great to wake up feeling refreshed. The aroma of fresh brewed coffee and/or making breakfast in the morning was simple because it was our choice. We had the option to cook anything we'd like in the comfort of the kitchen or use the outside grill anytime we'd like. Whip it up yourself or go out eat at all the local, affordable & delicious eateries. Craving brunch..La Creperie serving lattes, coffee con leche, brie, salmon and crepes galore on 300 Petronia St. In the mood for blackened mahi mahi, with mouth-watering mango and jalapeno go to Garbo's Grill just around the corner.

Each day was another adventure exploring the islands of Key West. When we'd get back after all the fun and sun, it was such a pleasure to open up the double French doors and let the evening breeze come on in. Just kick back, take off our shoes and relax out on the front or back deck with a cold drink on a warm night. We highly recommend Steve & Karla's condo at the Truman Annex to all of our friends and family because staying there was truly a breath of fresh air.

Great Time, Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Steve and Karla for creating a home away from home. The condo has everything you need for a relaxing vacation, and is very clean and tidy. It's great to sit and relax on the front porch or on the sectional inside. The kitchen has everything you need, the grill makes cooking quick and easy, and the washer and dryer is a great plus. There's even beach chairs and pool toys! It's minutes from Duvall St, Fort Zachary Beach, and Bahama Village-which has some great restaurants!

Double Beds, Not Queen

  • 3 of 5

This condo has a great location, close to Duval Street as well as Ft. Zachary Taylor Beach. It's small, but packed with nice amenities, including a washer/dryer, beach towels and beach chairs. However, I was unhappy to find that the queen beds promised on this listing are actually doubles. This would have been a no-go for us, so I was a bit frustrated. Getting a good night sleep is important on vacation and crowding in a small bed didn't help. Also, the kitchen needs some attention. The tea kettle wasn't usable because it had rusted out, and some basics were missing, such as a pitcher with a functioning lid and a good nonstick pan. Since we traveled with teens, it also would have been nice to have a video game console, which we usually encounter in other rentals.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mara for letting us know about the kitchen supplies. We have ordered two new non-stick pans, a new stainless tea kettle, and new pitchers for our guests to use. We try to present a fully-stocked kitchen and are sorry we did not meet your expectations. However, we are confused over the comments about the bed sizes. We bought the two queen mattress and box spring sets four years ago, and have supplied them with new queen bedding ever since. One mattress is a pillow-top and the other plain. We did this purposely because some guests do not like pillow-tops.

Closer to Havanna than we are to Miami, Key West is the Southernmost point in the continental United States. Only 4 miles by 2 miles, the island is packed with tourist activities and calm retreats. Our home is located in the Old Town historic district where you can see beautiful Victorian mansions blend with 'conch' cottages. Come for the fishing, scuba diving, and beaches, and stay for the night life, nightly sunset celebration, and of course the infamous Fantasy Fest week in October.

Walk 10 minutes to the shaded beach at Ft. Zachary Taylor State Park. Or walk 1 minute to our heated and cooled pool. Walk two blocks to Ernest Hemingway's home, two blocks to famous Duval St, and 8 minutes to Mallory Square (nightly sunset celebration).

Our street address is 208 Southard St, Key West. Park your car in our reserved, off-street space, and forget about it for the rest of your stay.

If for some reason it is not, you can not only contact our management company to get an immediate fix, but you can contact us (the owners) directly. Our pool is heated in the winter and chilled in the summer. It sits at the end of the complex's beautifully landscaped park, about a 1 minute walk away. A 10 minute walk takes you to the shady and secluded beach at Fort Zachary Taylor State park. Other Key West attractions are also within a 5-10 minute walk: Hemmingway's house, Duval St, Mallory Square.
