Spacious studio in a perfect location! Tastefully furnished, well-lit, opening onto a private deck and garden. Flat panel HD TV, cable connection with HBO, and Wi-Fi.
A private entrance leads down a plant-filled walkway to the red door of the Ashbury Garden Studio — an ideal refuge for those exploring the delights of San Francisco or those in San Francisco for extended stays. The quiet studio is at the back, garden-level of a 3-unit 1924 Edwardian building. Guests relax on the studio’s private deck to enjoy the quiet of the garden. Stone counter-tops in the kitchen, a full stove with oven, Bosch dishwasher, and a queen-size bed.
The central location, on a tree-lined street in a friendly neighborhood, enables guests to walk to the colorful shops and restaurants of Haight-Ashbury and Cole Valley as well as nearby Golden Gate Park. See the former homes of the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and other greats just 2-3 blocks away.
The studio is 2 blocks from Haight Street, 3 blocks from Cole Valley and a 15 minute walk to Golden Gate Park. City destinations and the ocean/beach at the eastern part of the City are all easily reached by close public transportation.
Well-served by multiple bus lines (#6, #7, #33, #43, #37, #71) and light rail (N-Judah), you can ride directly to Ocean Beach (15 minutes), Civic Center and downtown shopping areas (10 – 15 minutes), the Embarcadero (15 minutes), the Castro (10 minutes), or the Mission (15 minutes). It’s a quick and easy to transfer to Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf buses or cable cars.
Walking distance to a wide range of restaurants and cafes to satisfy any culinary interest: French, Mexican, Thai, Indian, Italian, American, Asian fusion, noodle shops, sushi, wine bar, etc as well as upscale California-Asian and sushi restaurants. We’re happy to share our personal favorites!

We so enjoyed our time at Ashbury Garden Studio. A perfect location and very comfortable space. Ellen and John were wonderfully attentive and accommodating from start to finish with all aspects of our rental. Loved all the San Francisco information provided - made for easy day-trip planning. Highly recommend this rental and look forward to our next visit.
Host and her family were so gracious and helpful. The suite is cozy and very quiet and exactly as represented. I will come back if I can.
I am so glad we chose the Ashbury Gardens Studio. Ellen was so helpful from the first conversation on. She was not available when we checked in, so had her daughter greet us and show us around. The studio was perfect for our needs, and the location was extremely convenient. We did have a rental car, but used public transportation about half the time. There was a bus right on the corner. The parking was admittedly kind of a hassle, as sometimes we had to park blocks away and climb up some hills to access our car. However, you really don't need a car if you stay at this property. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Ellen has a notebook with lots of helpful info, and is an extremely pleasant person.
Of all the VRBO rentals that I have stayed in, this is my favorite. I love the location, the access to public transportation, the proximity to Golden Gate Park, the Haight, the Inner Sunset, and the beautiful, interesting
architecture all around. I love the way the wind blows the plants in the garden at night, and the fog that envelops
the neighborhood on summer nights. The apartment is really quiet and the bed is comfy. Ellen is my favorite host
of all, a delightful human being.
I spent a month here in the summer of 2010 and a month in 2011. The Salsa festival is a lot of fun, and the free
concerts in Stern Grove Park are, too. Cole Valley is another nearby lively neighborhood. There are so many
lovely streets to explore nearby. What a great city, and a fantastic apartment!
Because I was so late in writing this review, I had to chose a date that was incorrect. My apologies Ellen and John,
and thanks for letting me stay in your apartment!
This place is awesome! Perfect location for a city trip. You are in the heart of haight ashbury, and perfect bus connection to all other districts in SanFran!
The place itself is very comfortable, a very nice studio, more than enough for the stay, clean, quite, no noise from the streets - perfect. Ellen is such a nice person, welcomed us on the first day, everything was working without any problems.
We will definitly come back to this place on our next visit! There is no better place to stay!
My first trip to SF and I could not have wished for a better place to stay! The most centrally located, easy to access via public transportation, comfortable and quiet location I've ever stayed at when traveling and beats out many hotels I've stayed at in my travels for cleanliness. The owner welcomed us immediately upon arrival and walked us through the apartment and instructions thoroughly. They had the most helpful binder of information for visitors that gave us restaurant suggestions nearby, tourist tips, and more - just a very thoughtful thing to do to provide. Towels (2 sets unless you ask for more), fridge, stove, carpets, bed/sheets, extra pillows - all clean and ready. All appliances needed to live in SF for any length of time. Back porch sitting area was nice to sit out at night and relax from a long day of touring. I would not bother looking anywhere else in the City to stay if/when I get the opportunity to revisit San Francisco, this place would be my first choice hands down. You feel safe at night walking back to the apartment, and 2 bus routes which lead you directly to all main arteries and the main streetcar F line on Market St which will take you from the Castro, to union center, to fisherman's wharf and back. Catch the 6 at the corner & get off on Scott Street and walk up to the painted ladies, or ride it all the way down Market Street! Or catch the 33 at the corner and walk through the Castro (Sausage Factory Italian Restaurant was good!). No need to get a tour of Haight/Ashbury St since it is literally 2-3 blocks away (and you can eat at the pork store or street taco!) Coffee shop right around the corner, if you don't make your own, next to the bus stop called Bacon which was a perfect way to start the morning. I loved SF and I loved this apartment!
