Leicester Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)

Thank you for visiting the listing of Newfound Cottage!!

.... 5 night minimum Oct. 14-31

■■ Pool is open Memorial day - Labor day

.... unlike staying at a hotel or going to a community pool, you have our pool all to yourselves. Because we have found that our guests and my family are able to use it privately at different times of the day.

The area of Newfound in Leicester, NC, is a farming community. Once you take Newfound Road exit and start your 5.7 miles to our driveway, you can easily see the incredible valley created by the mountains as you come down Newfound Mtn. There's no other area in WNC that presents such a view upon entrance as the area of Newfound. And houses in our community are acres apart, not 20' from each other. Newfound Cottage is only 8.7 miles from the Asheville City Limits [via in-town roads] and only 20 minutes to downtown Asheville [via in-town roads]. This particular piece of mountainside is a 136 acre privately owned family farm, owned by my family for 30+ years. The drive up to the cottage is 1/2 a mile long, so you can't see the cottage from the main road. We, the owners, live on this mountainside as well. Our private residence is 2 acres from the cottage. We're here to be helpful, keep up our cottage and property to our high standards, but you have complete privacy. We don't boast a grand view from the cottage, because it's setting offers peace 'n quiet and mountain wilderness. There's complete seclusion on the back deck of the cottage with the hot tub and outdoor fireplace. Then the onsite hiking is available if you'd like to get out, stretch your legs, and see exactly what you have heard other visitors to this area say about being in the mountains. Visiting us in Summer means you have a swimming pool only 300' down from the cottage. Just because the pool isn't physically attached to the cottage doesn't mean you won't be able to use it privately. We have found it very easy for our guests and our family to use the pool at completely different times of day so everyone gets to use the pool privately. Besides the onsite hiking, hot tub, outdoor fireplace and swimming pool, the cottage offers 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with 2 of those being suites - one is on the main the other upstairs. We have had guests with aging parents, small children as well as teenagers, find the accommodations at Newfound Cottage to be great due to the comfortable main floor accommodations and private upstairs, while the main floor has an open concept where everyone can socialize. While offering onsite hiking, hot tub, outdoor fireplace, and swimming pool, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the nightly rates reflect the 1400 sq. ft. size of the house. We offer the high-end amenities some other more expensive vacation rentals do, but at much lower rates taking into consideration the size of the house. Come stay at the best vacation rental with the best amenities with the most reasonable rates in the mountains of western North Carolina .... Newfound Cottage!!

About Tammy

My husband and I have been married since 1990 and have had both full time and vacation rentals since 1993. We're big DIYers. I am an artist by nature, so interior decorating comes natural to me. My husband has artistic skills too but prefers building things. We built our cottage with our own four hands over a 3 yr. period, every weekend, every holiday, and our own money. A vacation rental business suits me for being able to earn income from home while keeping myself available for my school-age son, having time for family/school activities, as well as being able to clean and maintain my vacation rental to my high standards.

Tammy purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Tammy chose Asheville Area

The community of Newfound in Leicester is a farming community. Since we loved the area enough to build our dream home here, we knew our guests would appreciate a home-away-from-home in a true country setting. Perfect location being 5.7 miles from the interstate, 20 minutes from downtown via in-town roads and only 25 minutes to the Biltmore Estate [via in-town roads]. So you get to enjoy time "vacationing" instead of driving. It's the best of both worlds!

What makes this cottage unique

Relaxing in the mountain setting with lightning bugs and tree frogs at night, song birds during the day, being in a well maintained clean house, beautifully decorated, minutes from major attractions, while having simple amenities like satellite TV, WiFi, magazines, board games and DVDs in case of less than favorable weather. But also having the high end amenities like a hot tub, outdoor fireplace, onsite hiking and swimming pool when there's nothing but perfect weather in sight!!!

Perfectly Quiet and Relaxing Place

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was exactly what we were looking for! Everything was even better than described on the Internet! Clean, well decorated, comfortable sofas for TV viewing, well stocked kitchen, great tasting water, private hot tub, comfortable beds, and more! We have already recommended this place to friends and plan to return ourselves. ~

Owner's Response: In writing a description for your vacation rental it is sometimes hard to put into words what in reality guests will see and experience. So in saying my house was better than described is actually heart-warming to me. They experienced what in words I couldn't convey! It always too brings joy to me for my previous guests to refer my house to their friends, because then I know I've done more than one thing right. I am always adding to the provisions of my house - big additions or small additions, whatever I feel my guests will enjoy - so future or returning guests will feel special! Rent Newfound Cottage! I promise you'll arrive and leave knowing it was your hard earned money well spent.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at Newfound Cottage NC! The house was beautiful and the hot tub...yes! The kitchen had everything you need and extras!! Towels for use were lovely and they even supplied a pool towel for each guest! Each room was a good size for vacation and easy to get to Asheville and area for some great fun.

Great Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this "cottage". The house was lovely and much better than the pictures show! We enjoyed the hot tub and the outdoor fireplace so much! My sons and daughter-in-law also enjoyed their hike up the mountain behind the house. The driveway is extremely steep - but we made it ok! Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the Asheville area! Thanks so much!

Perfect for Everyone!!!

  • 5 of 5

Newfound cottage was a perfect holiday getaway for all. Our group had varied interests and holiday expectations. This wonderful cottage is situated in an area with something for everyone. We enjoyed both leisurely and challenging hikes and climbs up the mountain without having to leave the family owned property. Day trips into Asheville were a short car ride through the most beautiful mountain roads. Everyone was able to enjoy the local restaurants, museums and night life. The cottage was spacious yet cozy, immaculate, and well stocked with everything we needed. We were able to prepare everything in the kitchen from lobster and steak to a five course breakfast. It was obvious that the owners care so much about their home and the needs of their guests. Every effort was made for our comfort. They went the extra mile to make sure we had all the information we would need to enjoy the area. Best for last, we loved, loved the back deck with the awesome hot tub and adjacent brand new outdoor fireplace. The whole family spent evenings by the fire watching sunsets. We would definitely return and recommend!!!

Communications tone was a problem

  • 3 of 5

The property is beautifully decorated and the mountains are lovely, but we were somewhat disappointed during our stay. We were not aware of how long a drive the cottage would be from the attractions we had come to see in Asheville; advance communications we got AFTER paying suggested five miles or eight miles from the city line, but the winding mountain roads made these very difficult miles in late-night rain and darkness. I would recommend Newfound cottage only for those who are sure they don't want to go to Asheville frequently as the drive was tedious so we didn't go back and forth as we had planned. Secondly, the tone of communications never seemed to match the tone of communications here in the review forum. Communications had a bit of haranguing for the misdeeds of past renters: when I would set the thermostat, I'd encounter a paper describing how renters had torn up the back yard by driving on it. When I read the renters' guidelines, I'd have to read through an excessively lengthy discussion about how families like to spend way too much time in the hot tub and how this will result in folliculitis. I'd recommend rewriting all these materials and focusing on the positives. Instead of yet another note about how a husband got a nasty cut lifting way too many beer bottles that broke a garbage bag, how about simply leaving a box and a short sign "Leave bottles here." Instead of arguing with a previous renter who complained about the worn teflon skillet, how about just replacing the skillet? (The renter was right; the teflon pan was unusable.) Instead of telling me you do all the cleaning yourself when the first person I meet in town tells me that she just finished cleaning the cottage for us, let us know who did the work so we can leave an appreciative tip. In addition to communicating positively, work on upgrading the towel situation. One towel is not enough for an entire week, towels need to be placed in the bathrooms upstairs, and the polyester hot tub towel isn't improving the situation. Finally, instead of saying that the new pool has been promised to be finished by the date we began our stay, advise renters in advance that there will be men on the property hammering for an entire week. Courteous, positive and nondefensive communications will be appreciated by future renters.

Owner's Response: For several reasons I chose to respond to this later. This "review" isn't a review of a vacation rental at all. It's a knit-picking rant from someone who, b/c it's obvious they couldn't find anything wrong with the house, concentrated solely on their perception of the content of a document. Among other helpful information, offers two courteous explanations for our guests who may need more information, as to why we've implemented 2 of our policies. This non-review consists of complaints concerning several situations this guest considered unsatisfactory, which could have been made to their satisfaction with a phone call and asking questions prior. This guest never asked about roads, distances, towels, anything. A list of provisions is plainly stated on the listing to see before renting. You're in the mtns. when you come to WNC. There will be mtn. roads. There are no winding mtn. roads using in-town roads and that info. is on the listing. Giving courteous explanations is not haranguing concerning actions we don't want repeated. She said I wrote about guests tearing up the back yard - nope - I ask guests not to park in the back yard b/c it stays wet b/c of an underground spring. There's no "excessively lengthy discussion" about guests spending too much time in the hot tub - we tell guests to abide by manufacturer's guidelines so they don't incur folliculitus and how to avoid that situation. Garbage co. requires everything be in a bag, so the suggestion of leaving them in a box is silly seeing as how they would have to be removed from the box and put in a bag. An a parent "argument" I had with a guest about a Teflon pan wasn't my rental. For some reason, instead of confirming I clean my cottage - if she was that concerned - she would rather say I'm lying due to meeting someone, who she had no idea was me or not because she never met me, who said they just finished cleaning, which I have no doubt was my brother's cleaning lady from his vacation rental that's on this same property, same private driveway, and he has guests coming ' n going on the same dates. Provisions list on listing states number provided, and non of my towels are polyester. Pools aren't built w/hammers, and there was 1 contractor there every day, guests were gone every day during daytime hrs. when contractor was there. Took a lot of energy for this person to complain but they didn't want to put that same effort into communication. Their unsatisfactory situation therefore was self-inflicted

Best vacation yet

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two children, brother & sister-in-law, and I spent our Christmas vacation at Newfound Cottage and it truly was a home away from home. We were all comfortable and had privacy. It was so much better than crowding into a tiny hotel room. We had our own rooms and bathrooms. We were able to relax and have company. Loved it and would definitely stay again. There were plenty of toys and movies to entertain the children. The convenience of the kitchen was wonderful, saved on having to eat out.
