This light-filled, two-bedroom, two-bath apartment is perfectly located near the historic Place des Vosges. Extensively renovated, everything - from floor to ceiling and every point in between - has been thoroughly updated and maintained to a very high standard.

Tournelles2 pairs wonderful modern design with classic features reflecting the building's XIX century roots, and succeeds in being both elegant and comfortable. The apartment's parquet floors, high ceilings, tall windows, and beautiful moldings are lit by fabulous and fun chandeliers in the entry, kitchen, and living areas, and warmed by dramatic floor-to-ceiling draperies. It has been decorated and equipped thoughtfully, with many conveniences and amenities. Please read our guest comments to see how others have enjoyed this apartment.

The apartment: Tournelles2 has a wonderful layout (see photos below), with well thought out public and private areas. The light streams in from two sides through tall French windows, highlighting the openness of the sleek and well-equipped kitchen, spacious dining area, and inviting living room. The two bedrooms, each with en suite baths, are positioned for privacy. Classic modern furniture is balanced by original fabrics and colorful art work. And, when night falls, the lovely lighting and furnishings provide incentive to dine in - even though the area’s many wonderful cafes and restaurants will beckon.

Tournelles2 is on the first floor French (second floor American), easily accessible by a wide and gently curved staircase. It, of course, comes with every amenity - flat screen TV with cable, DVD, phone with free calling to 28 countries, washer/dryer, free WiFi, heated towel racks, etc. We have also equipped Tournelles2 with a laptop computer so you do not have to lug yours along.

The amenities: In addition, the apartment comes with its own off-site manager, a wonderful and knowledgeable Parisian fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian. In addition to making sure Apartment Tournelles2 is beautifully cleaned and ready for your arrival. She can assist you in emergencies, and will check the apartment's condition after you leave. We (the owners) come at least twice a year and make sure the apartment stays in tip-top shape.

Le Marais: The neighborhood: Tournelles2 is in the midst of the Marais, one of Paris's most historic, most beautiful, and most desirable neighborhoods. From French history to French chic, the Marais has it all. The Marais is also a gourmet's delight—the apartment is near several of Paris’ best open air markets and specialty food stores, and within easy walking of a wide range of dining choices. To help you get acquainted, Apartment Tournelles2 is equipped with numerous guidebooks and maps, as well as information on our favorite places to shop, eat, and sight see in the neighborhood. We provide a complete binder with directions on how to use all of the appliances, lots of neighborhood resources, and general Paris information.

About Cheryl and Pam

Two San Francisco families own this beautiful apartment and its adjacent 'sister'. We manage this and our adjacent apartment ourselves with the help of a wonderful Parisian friend.

We traveled to Paris in the winter of 2006 to research buying property, and came home 10 days later as Paris apartment owners. Our dream is to live in Paris, and having these apartments get us one step closer to that. We renovated, decorated, and equipped these apartments based on our prior experiences with vacation rentals in the US and Europe, and hope that you will enjoy all of the amenities and small touches that we have provided. We travel to Paris as often as we can to make sure the apartments stay in top shape. Our goal is to give you a wonderful place to stay, and have you love Paris as much as we do.

Why Cheryl and Pam chose Les Archives

We love the is central to everything, yet retains a neighborhood feel. We love walking out the door and being steps away from fabulous bakeries, restaurants, museums, and great shopping. Paris is a great walking city, and our apartment provides easy access to so much of it. We also love the location because the Paris Metro (subway system) is so close and so easy to use. We also love the Marais because of its history and diversity...from the elegant Place des Vosges to rue des Rosiers' Jewish delis to rue des Archives' gay friendly bars and stores---everyone can feel at home in the Marais.

What makes this apartment unique

Some of our favorite things to do revolve around cooking and eating! We love being just across the street from the twice-weekly Bastille farmers market, and within easy walking distance to two other historic markets on rue des Bretagnes and at Place d'Aligre. And we can never stay at our place and not stop for a meal at Chez Janou, a block away, making sure we save room for their incredible bowl of chocolate mousse! We also love that a short walk takes us to and across the Seine, to Notre Dame and the Left Bank, and never get tired of window shopping along rue des Francs Bourgeois' chic boutiques,or walking under Place des Vosges' magnificent arches.

Our other favorite past time is exploring Paris' various neighborhoods or arrondisements. The fact that we're so close to the 2nd, 4th, 10th, 11th, and 12th facilitates our 'expeditions.' As in our home city, San Francisco, it is the neighborhoods away from the tourist areas that give one a great perspective on the city and its people---and, just like San Francisco, the best food at the best prices are found in the neighborhoods!

Dear Cheryl and Pam: Just a short note to say "wow!!" What a truly special place 84, rue des Tournelles is! Our Parisian family adventure was wonderful...and a huge part of our great experience was due to the amazing place we called "home" for almost 2 weeks. Really - it was such a perfect set-up for us (and I'm sure for anyone). Besides your having impeccable taste, every amenity was thought of and that sure does add to the ease and enjoyment of one's vacation. And, being the detailed gal that I am, I really enjoyed reading your helpful information guide (the black binder!).

After 2 mornings of baguettes from our local and very convenient boulangerie (Banette), which was perfectly fine, we then ventured to Au Levain du Marais to sample THE BEST. Amazing stuff. Actually my 5 year old and 18 year old made that part of their morning routine - picking up bread and treats for the family breakfast. My husband and I were also lucky enough to have gotten 3 nice dinners out of the deal--so great that we were transported to such special, quiet places only steps away from our apartment. Big thumbs up for Chez Janou, Le Petit Marche, and La Cave de St. Gilles. Thanks for the wonderful tips.

So, with great sadness, I am returning the apartment key to you. You have inspired us to save our pennies and plan for our next European adventure. You have also restored my confidence in trusting the Internet for booking accommodations (I had a previous bad experience)...

  • The two well-appointed bedrooms, each with very comfortable queen-sized beds and en suite modern bathrooms, are at opposite ends of the apartment, ensuring privacy. One bedroom is a bit larger than the other, but they are equally comfortable, with good closets and shelving, bed-side reading lights, high quality bed linens, and ample pillows. The smaller bedroom has a split en suite bathroom; its large shower has a luxurious rain shower head, while the adjacent toilet shares space with the washer/dryer. The other en suite bath has a full bathtub with an overhead shower and glass partition, as well as a modern sink and tiled counter. Both bathrooms have heated towel racks and are well-lit. A portable crib is available on request.

Wonderful spot!

This apartment is perfect for a family of 4. It is ideally located with access to 3 subway lines. The kitchen was set up so that you can go the market and stay in and cook if you like. The owners were very responsive and helpful as was the local manager.

Owners are easy to reach and accommodating, great attention to details

Location is not in my most interesting part of Marais but within 5 mins walk

Excellent grocery and Maison Plisson morning bakery, coffee, deli items - huge plus for us

Easy metro, very central

Good building, short stairs, very private layout, huge windows ( facing building relatively close so no "view." but reasonably well lit.

Did not use kitchen but well appointed.

Bathrooms, good

Bedding GREAT

Very clean, well appointed living room, laptop a big plus, very good wifi, TV

Heating is a bit tricky, never really got the hang of all the settings but weather was clement

Cant tell about AC

Price to value good

Thus may not sound gushing but the property is well above average compared to multiple others we have rented on Paris and other Europe cities.

Would easily rent again if we are four, too expensive for two people.

Owner's Response: We're so glad that Sam and his party loved our 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment and found it "well above average compared to others". We may disagree on the specifics of the most interesting parts of the Marais, but the great thing is what a walkable neighborhood we're in, as Sam points out. There is so much, by way of food, culture, shopping, sightseeing, within easy access. And, we, too, love Maison Plisson! Of course, we wish Sam had given us 5 stars instead of 4 - but his nice words make up for our disappointment. We look forward to welcoming him back.

Noisy neighbors kept us up until 530am on our last night

Property was clean but two exterior doors were unlocked most of the week and parties in the apartment next door were a nuisance. Our last night the party went on until 530 am. None of us got any sleep. I would never go back.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that this renter had a bad experience - this is the first negative review we have had in all our years of renting our Paris apartment. But we were also disappointed that this renter did not contact either us or our Paris manager to let us know of the problem in the building next to us. Instead, after the fact, she accused us of not letting her know there was a "nightclub" next door. We would, of course, inform all prospective renters if we had an ongoing or serious noise issue - but, as one can tell from reading our reviews, nearly everyone of our renters over the past 10+ years have found our apartment to be peaceful and quiet. And, this renter did not give us the opportunity to see if we could contact the people in the next building to address the temporary noise issue. What we do know is that the weeks before this renter came and the weeks following there has been no noise from the building next door. Whatever was occurring next door was an out of the ordinary event.We feel badly that she did not have the wonderful experience in our apartment that all of our prior clients have had, and would be glad to offer her a discount for her next stay, but she has informed us that she will stay in hotels in the future.

Fabulous apartment in a great location - perfect for 2 couples - information book with restaurant reviews was helpful. Our only issue was the washer/dryer - instructions didn't help - need to be clearer and in English (we eventually figured it out).

We would definitely stay at 84Tournelles again!

Family Visits Paris Like Locals

The property is situated in a bit of a cul de sac on a lovely street (reminiscent of my old New York Soho neighborhood) just off lively Boulevard Beaumarchais - an ideal Marais location and exactly what we envisioned for our multi-generational family of four. We had chic clothing and design boutiques, artisanal bakeries, and our favorite cafe, "Merci" within a few minutes walk of the apartment. The building is tasteful and the apartment is steamlined, space-efficient, with plenty of natural light from the generous window seats that we enjoyed gazing out of in both rain and shine. It is ideal for two couples or a couple and young children who can share a bed. (Our teenagers slept in shifts which worked for our early bird daughter and night owl son.) The owners have taken care to provide all the essentials a traveler would want, including street maps, guide books, and most important -- wifi access! We will absolutely come here again to our adopted pied-a-terre so we can re-live a most memorable picnic supper (at 9PM!) in the Place des Vosge, just like the locals.

Rental fee includes taxes and utilities. Weekly price includes an end of stay cleaning, and is prorated for stays of 4, 5 or 6 nights. There is an additional $250 cleaning charge for stays of only 4 nights. Ask us about discounts available for last-minute reservations & stays longer than two weeks.
Maximum occupancy is 4 persons (including children).
No smoking or pets are allowed.
