Tres Rios House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

BETWEEN DOMINICAL AND THE OSA PENINSULA! Enjoy Costa Rican coffee while watching toucans, parrots and even squirrel monkeys. In fact, we have recently changed the name to Casa del Mono Titi since we frequently see these little monkeys climbing and jumping through the trees adjacent to the house. The villa is located on the Pacific coast in southwest Costa Rica on a mountainside with a spectacular view of Cano island and the Osa Peninsula. Several beaches are nearby, including those at Marina Ballena National Park. The Osa Peninsula, one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world, is close enough for a day trip.

Although the bedrooms are air conditioned, you may not need it. Since the 1000 foot elevation is cooler than sea level, the ceiling fans in every room and outside are usually sufficient for comfort. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a gas grill; however, if you don't feel like cooking several excellent restaurants are an easy drive. We'll be glad to let you know a few of our favorites.

There are numerous activities available nearby. Cano Island is famous for diving and snorkling. You can arrange zip-line canopy tours, whale watching, kayaking, horseback riding, 4-wheeling, birding, and numerous other activities and tours. A day trip to Coronado National Park is possible, and Manuel Antonio, the most visited national park in the country, is an hour and a half away. Boruca, a village named after the indigenous people who live there, is about an hour drive away. Crafts, such as the masks and woven purses and backpacks that you will see in many shops in CR can be purchased from the artists in the village.

If there are any problems at the house, we have local managers who can set things right for you. They can also help you rent a car or arrange any of the above activities for you. If you would like cleaning services during your stay, they can arrange this as well.

The villa is a few kms south of Ojochal near the village of Coronado. It is 3 km from the Costanera Highway, accessible by 4x4. (A 4X4 vehicle is necessary!!) It is a 4 1/2-5 hour drive from San Jose through the Sierra de la Muerte, a beautiful mountain range; a 3 1/2-4 hour drive via the new highway and the coastal highway; or a 40 minute flight to a local airport in Palmar Sur.

I don't know why the new 'green season' rates are not visible. Green season is April 16-Dec 14. The rate is $1000 per week.

Why Karen Albi chose Puntarenas

Our house is close to the ocean, has a beautiful view, and is in a private location in the less developed area of the Pacific coast.

Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!!

What can I say about this perfect house?? My husband and I have rented houses all over the world and this was by far the best one we've ever had. I had to pick my chin up off the floor when we first arrived. It is absolutely beautiful! The view is the first thing that grabs you and never gets old. The house is amazing and the owner has thought of everything!! The more than fully equipped kitchen was perfect. We cooked most of our meals in because we didn't want to leave paradise. We spent a leisurely week here either staying on our hilltop paradise or checking out the beautiful beaches. From the birds in the morning to the spectacular sunsets in the afternoon to the stars at night I can't say enough wonderful things about this property. I call Denise a "rock star" in the property management field. She met us at a restaurant and we followed her to the house. She was available to us the entire week if we needed anything. She made us feel most welcome. When (not if) we come back again we want to stay here longer. It was so hard to leave. We highly recommend the Exotica restaurant for a delicious and romantic dinner and the Bamboo Room restaurant for a great meal and live music. John and Janet (the owners) made us feel right at home. If you're spending time in the Ojochal area this house is a must!!!

Perfect Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This was the absolute perfect place to stay! Every morning, we woke up around 5 and sat on the big beautiful wraparound porch and watched and listened to the wildlife--and there was always so much! Just at the house, we saw toucans, aracaris, a coati, squirrel and howler monkeys, a zillion hummingbirds, bullfrogs as big as plates, chirping lizards, a Blue Morpho butterfly...the list goes on. Our favorites were the pair of toucans who came every morning and evening to say hi. They were so funny!

The house was great for our needs. We played some of the board games kept there, read a book or two, and watched a tiny bit of Downton Abbey. Often we would just sit on the porch and watch the waves in the ocean to the right, or storms in the mountains to the left, or swim in the pool at night and marvel at the bright stars.

The area the house is in is beautiful and user-friendly. We went to a different beach almost every day, hiked to waterfalls, and made frequent trips to the BM supermarket in town. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. One day we drove down to Sierpe and did some adventuring (mangrove tour was spectacular!) as well as visiting an archaeological site (Finca 6).

One of my favorite things about this trip was getting to know one of the neighbors a little bit, and making friends with a nature guide in Sierpe. By the last night, when we drove down to a nearby bar and restaurant for a quick bite to eat, then ran into the neighbor and sat and chatted for an hour or two, it was starting to feel like home. Everything there was just saturated in natural beauty. My perfect vacation. When I got home, I felt completely unwound and relaxed. My boss said I even looked younger!

The only caution I have about the house is that you MUST have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up to it, and it is a bumpy ride--but that was not a big deal for us. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful property and this area. HIGHLY recommended. We will absolutely be back!

A place to get away from the ratrace

  • 5 of 5

Casa Mono Titi is a great place to relax, enjoy the great views overlooking the mountainside and the Pacific Ocean, sip a caprihinia on the covered patio, take a dip in the pool, and just let your worries fade away. The house is well-maintained and fully equipped with all modern conveniences. There is plenty of room and the huge windows invite the outside in. There is plenty of comfortable cushioned furniture outside on the patio, and the laundry facilities in the separate bodega make a great convenience – you don’t have to hear the washing machine and dryer running to interrupt your listening to the birds and monkeys cavorting in the trees!

The long road going up the mountain can be a bit tricky – definitely a 4-wheeled vehicle is needed, but once you arrive, the drive seems well worth it. In the area, you can visit Manuel Antonio National Park, the Osa peninsula, Boruca village (a native town way off in the mountains where they make and sell homemade native crafts such as carved masks, weavings, pottery, etc.) and relax at Playa Ballena Beach Club for dinner and drinks. If you want more active entertainments, there is horseback riding, zip lines, visits to a waterfall, browsing the local shops in the small villages in the area, and shopping for local fruits, vegetables, and meats in the local groceries. You can’t go wrong spending time at Casa Mono Titi to revitalize and reconstitute!

Rainy season is the best!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I visited this idyllic hideaway as a post Graduation celebration. Although June is in the rainy season for this part of Costa Rica, it is a perfect time to really enjoy the delights that this wonderful house allows. As it is situated with fantastic views of the Osa Peninsula, sometimes the rain clouds and light dance in the sky and the fact that it's raining is secondary to the beauty. The house has an outside living area which is where most of the relaxing happens; rocking in the chair, viewing the amazing birdlife and local monkeys and of course, eating a freshly cooked meal of local produce and marveling that 'Pura Vida', life is good!

The house is conveniently situated for local day trips. We went scuba diving and snorkeling, horseback riding and did a canopy tour of the local rain forest by zip wire. All tremendous fun. The beaches are almost deserted during rainy season but there is still plenty of sunshine before the afternoon rains to enjoy them.

I would definitely recommend the house to others and have done already.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you and Emma enjoyed your stay. We hope you'll join us again, but don't wait for Emma's college graduation! As I write this, I am sitting outside, drinking coffee and a toucan just landed in the tree. Ta Hanks for the kind words.

Costa Rica getaway

What a gem! We had a wonderful week at this beautiful spot. It is well hidden on the top of a mountain, accessible only with 4 wheel drive. Once you get there you will not want to leave. The view is spectacular. We were serenaded daily by the kiskadee, with toucans all around making lively conversation. A birder's paradise- all from the comfort of a rocking chair on the open balcony. Hummingbirds abound, and a family of golden napped woodpeckers were there every morning.

The pool was a perfect spot to watch the sunset and see the weather moving in over the Pacific Ocean and the Oja peninsula. What a spectacular vista. The house is very comfortable, with satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen, 2 full bathrooms and a separate laundry room. I highly recommend a tour through Corcovados national park. We saw 4 species of monkeys, beautiful scarlet macaws, numerous small birds and lizards, with a guided tour by a knowledgable naturalist. The highlight of our jungle trek was a howler monkey fight overhead. Another fun tour for the more adventurous was a zip line through the canopy which includes multiple zip lines, hanging bridges, rappelling and a Tarzan swing. We were fortunate in sighting a blue morpho butterfly on this tour. I highly recommend this beautiful spot and hope to return soon.

A Month In Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We chose Casa Mono Titi for a month long stay and were not disappointed. Everything was great from the amenities of the house to the fabulous wide open view. The house is located 10+ mins south of Ojochal. There are 2 variety stores, a restaurant and an excellent meat market in Coronada where you turn off to take the 8 minute steep, scenic drive to the house. Our grocery shopping was mostly done at the BM supermarkets in Uvita about 20 mins north but discovered we could drive same distance south to the Palmar Norte BM supermarket; prices and selection were a bit better. I suggest buying duty free liquor/wine at the SJO airport as prices are cheaper. Most of our fruits and veg were bought at the Saturday market in Uvita or at roadside stands. The house has a charcoal BBQ with a neat gimmick to get the charcoal going. Try the smoked pork chops (chuletas de cerdo ahumadas) from the Carniceria (butcher shop in Coronada); their meat is excellent, their English is not! Restaurants we enjoyed were the Boca Coronada and the Tilapia Farm (2nd one) on the way to Ojochal as well as Exotica, Citrus, Mama y Papas, Ylang Ylang, all excellent choices in Ojochal. Fabrizio's has fabulous pizza and pasta (the gnocchi was delish)-small seating area but they offer take-out. If going to Dominical, try Por-Que-No restaurant then check out their small beach. Our days started at 5:30 to in order catch the best of the bird and wildlife action. The Mono Titi monkeys were frequent visitors in the large trees; watch for branch movement as they can be hard to spot. That's what we loved most about "living" here, every day provided a new amazing nature experience. Remember you are in the jungle so expect surprises! The Corcovada day trip was excellent; be sure to take backpack with water, snack, binoculars, camera and water shoes (not flip flops) as you get on/off the boat in the water. Expect 4 hours of hiking in the jungle; you will need closed walking shoes or, if has been very wet, boots would be best. The Osa Ziplining was OK (Arenal ziplining is better); not sure their rope bridge is safe! The house has well-stocked kitchen, A/C in bdrms, lots of dvds, books and bird guides, many comfy and shaded outdoor seating choices and a refreshing pool w outdoor shower. Denise, the property manager and David, our pool guy were wonderful. We learned so much from both of them, which made our stay here an experience we will never forget. Thank you Karen and Mario for sharing your lovely casa!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay.Denise said you tried to book the same time frame for next year, but discovered the house is booked. Funnily enough, the family who stayed prior to you this year booked those weeks. Keep us in mind for future visits. Karen and Mario We haven't seen the tayra yet.
