About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This cozy home was built in the 1920's, and totally remodeled and renovated in 2007. The kitchen is large and fully equipped, the dining room seats up to 10 and lends itself well to small parties that often flow out through the kitchen to the back patio. The house is close to the hub of activities in Pensacola, and only 20 minutes from the beach.

Festivals, night clubs, churches, restaurants, the harbor, Wahoo's stadium, the Saenger and Pensacola Little theater are within walking distance, and the eclectic downtown is always bustling with activities. There is a market every Saturday on Palafox. There are shops and restaurants all along Palafox. The neighborhood is filled with big homes, bungalows and cute shotgun houses mixed with businesses. The downtown is going through a revival, and many houses here have been fixed up over the years. There is a really nice park right next to the house, where children can play.

The basement fitness room has balls, bands, a punching bag, two pieces of equipment and a large rocking horse for fun. There is an outdoor shower and changing area to enjoy on warm days. In the basement we keep 2 small cots that could accomodate two small children if necessary.

The beds are very comfortable. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, and a small, private, sitting room/TV room. The second bedroom has the 2 twin beds and also houses the Internet connection and a TV. The livingroom has a pull out couch, if needed, and there are 2 cots in the basement. If you have more than 4 people, the extras will have to sleep on the pull out or the cots. Though the house is not suitable for very small children, those over 6 will enjoy the basement and the huge rocking horse in the basement.

My daughter, Susanna, manages the property, and lives right around the corner, if you have questions. Towels, sheets, pillows and blankets are provided, as well as dish and laundry soap. Please put down the correct amount of people. If there are more than 4, I have to plan cleaning accordingly. All payments are through a credit card, through VRBO. Please, no groups under 25 years old.

About Susanna Tempesta

My family and I have lived in the North Hill Historic district for 3 generations. Recently my husband and I moved to a subdivision a little farther from downtown. We love to spend special weekends at the De Soto Street house especially if we have attended an event downtown or at the Sanger Theatre. Every few months we like to have a little mini vacation at the house so that we can relax and stroll around the neighborhood, go the the Naval Air Museum which changes often, and then have Sunday brunch downtown or at the Hilton on the beach. My daughter Susanna often meets the guests who rent the house and helps out since she lives close.

Susanna Tempesta purchased this house in 1994

Why Susanna Tempesta chose Pensacola

We love the historic district for walking and enjoying the homes and flowers. But actually, the house has been in the family for a long time. It became run down and my family, my husband, many others, and I totally redid the old place, every inch. It is close to all our daily activities too.

What makes this house unique

It is fun to have our family parties at the De Soto Street House because there is always something for everybody to do there, walk the neighborhood, go to the park, skateboard, cook, sit out in the back under the palm trees, play in the basement. My mother loves to come because she holds court in the living room from her favorite rocking chair. Everybody else mosies around mixing and mingeling. It seems an easy place for everyone to just be.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My guest was reluctant to leave feedback because the site requested too much personal information. She wants you to know she had a wonderful stay. This was her second trip to the De Soto Street House.

lovely home.

We Had a great time in Pensacola.

Your home was really comfortable & had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We sat out on the Patio each evening until dark, wish the outside lights worked so we could enjoy our wine out there a little longer.

Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home.

Sincerely, Derek & Bev.

Charming small house, conveniently located.

  • 4 of 5

Susanna, the owner was very nice to deal with. She meet us when we arrived, opened the door, gave us our keys showed us around. It's an older home but the bathrooms have been remodeled with beautiful ceramic sinks and new toilets, and a walk-in shower in the master bathroom. The house is furnished with plenty of dishes, glasses, coffee cups, silverware, and stocked with fluffy white bath towels and oodles of hangars in the closets. The tree shaded sidewalks are great on morning walks through this historic North Hill neighborhood with big homes and handsomely manicured lawns. This house is conveniently located with easy access to downtown, I-110, shopping and restaurants. We visited McGuire's Irish Pub twice, great food at reasonable prices.

Great home and location for our needs

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the home. My wife and I and our 3 college age girls stayed at this lovely home. We were here to drop off our girls for college at Pensacola Christian. The home was very clean and had everything we needed. Suzanne met us at the door to show us around the house and told us of all that she had at the home for us to use, like beach stuff, cooking supplies, and other needs. The home was large enough for the five of us and I loved the back room to chill out and watch some football and other shows. The girls loved the stray kittens and wanted to keep them, but they had to go to college. The area is nice to explore, very historical, 1920's built homes. There are quite a few historical museums in downtown area, less than 5 minutes away that we did not have time to see, also they had vendors up and down the street selling all kinds of things and food as well, on Saturdays until 2pm. We highly recommend this to anyone who what's to stay near the college or historic north district. Rained the day we were going to go to beach, but I heard it's not too far away, about 20 minutes.

Thanks for letting us stay, wish we could of had more time, will be back next year...Tim & Kathy

The property was clean and nice.

  • 3 of 5

The landlord was very nice and helpful. The property was clean and nice. The only complaint is that the air conditioner didn't work very well. After being on the beach most of the day, in the heat of the summer, we were hoping to come back to a very cool house. The air conditioner didn't cool the house very well.

Other than that, the house was nice. It was located in an area convenient to a lot of things. I was hoping for more shopping and less restaurants in Historic Downtown but it was still a very pretty area to walk around.

Owner's Response: Kari, Thank you for your feedback. Downtown has really grown in the last few years. I agree we need more shops, but I hope you found the Olive Oil shop! I could hardly believe it when our benefactors put in The Bodacious Olive! It is a very limited speciality shop, but I seem to have to visit it at least once a month for my olive oil and vinegar. I seldom used olive oil before that shop opened. The most exciting thing downtown this year is the new YMCA It is state of the art.. Also, from our benefactors! Our guests will be able to buy a day pass to use the facility. We had a very hot summer this year. When the temperature goes to 100 degrees the air conditioner does struggle to get below 75. Fortunately, here on the coast we seldom get to 100 degrees. The ceiling fans do carry us through, though. We planted a fast growing shade tree on the sunny side of the house last winter. And happily our hundred degree weather is over for this year. We hope to see you all back soon. Judy and Susanna

North Hill is a beautiful historic neighborhood with many restored turn of the century (20th) homes. It is a good place for long walks and running. A neighborhood park is only 1/2 block from the house. Downtown is within walking distance and has many restaurants, museums, entertainments, and our newly restored and remodeled Sanger theater.

Oportunities for deep sea fishing, sailing, and other beach activities abound in the Pensacola area.
