About The Owner

We are a family of five living in Charlotte, NC. Will and I keep busy trying to raise our three young children.

The Owner purchased this house in 2004

Why The Owner chose Coastal North Carolina

Will and I chose Holden Beach and the Great Escape because it is a quiet family oriented beach. We knew we wanted a place where we could let our kids ride their bikes, run and play on an uncrowded beach and a place we could build fond memories.

What makes this house unique

Located on the east side of the island, the Great Escape is a five minute walk to the beach, the inner coastal waterway and local restaurants. The outdoor shower allows you to get cleaned up after a day of playing at the beach or after a long walk to the pier. The inverted floor plan lets you enjoy the views while rocking on the front porch and relaxing with the gentle beach breeze. The kids can enjoy a variety of books, games, puzzles and toys.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family just returned from our Holden Beach vacation and we loved staying at this house. The homeowners provided everything we needed: a fully equipped kitchen, high chair, pack and play, beach cart, umbrella, and beach chairs. The home is beautifully decorated and was perfect for our family's stay. We cooked most meals but there were restaurants within a short walking distance. The grocery store is just over the bridge, which made it convenient to purchase groceries. On Sunday evening we enjoyed the free concert and beach music (also just a short walk away). The beach was not crowded and was perfect for families. I would highly recommend this vacation property and plan to stay here on return visits.

Great location and amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time with my family here. VERY comfortable and homey, and we REALLY appreciated the fact that the pantry and fridge had basic items like condiments, etc. The linen option was another lifesaver (use provided linens if you wash and fold before you leave). Plus, we walked to the concert under the bridge, Sandman's and Paradise Cafe. Would definitely rent again!

Better than expected!

  • 5 of 5

I just want to say, this was BETTER than we could have ever expected! The pictures on the website don't do Misty's house justice!!!! Misty was so easy to work with and responded quickly! We stayed with 6 of us! 4 adults and two kiddos. It works out GREAT having bunk beds! It was only a 5 minute walk to the beach and there is a cart, sand toys, chairs, you name it, to use! I was so thankful there were kid toys as we came with a 3 and 5 year old in our group! They LOVED playing with all the toys in the livingroom! It was awesome! We would definitely stay here again when we come back to Holden Beach!!!!

Summer Vaca.

Great location and house. When we got there we found the fridge door full of condiments. I prefer to have the fridge cleaned out well and to used for my goods. The bar stool in the kitchen had a sticky seat, looked like syrup. I cleaned it up. I presume a child with sticky hands continued down the stairs. Had to also clean banister. A couple of hours after taking a shower my feet were dirty from the carpets. Carpets obviously dirty/stained in places. Bedroom closet door off hinges and resting against wall. An outside bench on bottom level was very worn with bare wood. 3-4 nails sticking out of it. Would have liked outside chairs and table to enjoy the deck for meals.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our home. I appreciate your feedback and will use it to make sure our future guests have a better experience. I am terribly sorry our home did not meet your expectations. I certainly want a clean and tidy home for our guests and the sticky banister and chair are completely unacceptable. I understand from your review the carpets were rather dirty, unfortunately due to their light color, any dirt and foot traffic has a tendancy to be seen rather quickly. We steam clean the carpets at the end and beginning of each season to ensure the house is clean for our guests. Ideally we could get them cleaned between each rental, but financially we are not able to do such and we would not have enough time for them to dry between guests. The other issue with the carpets is that often times people walk around barefoot outside and then come into the house with either dirty feet or wet feet, both of which add to the foot traffic on the carpets. As for the closet door and outside bench, those are things that need to be taken care of. Again, I am sorry that the house was not what you expected. I do appreciate your opinion and your feedback. Respectfully, Misty

Great family vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from 1 week at Holden Beach and were thilled with the "The Great Escape". The house had plenty of space for our family of four (our kids are 4 & 5 years old). The toys were wonderful and provided some additional entertainment while we got meals ready. The beach is <5 minute walk from the house and the beach cart in the storage area to haul all the beach items back and forth was great. The local restaurants are also within walking distance (~5 minutes). On Sunday night we went to the free concert in the gazebo (~5 minute walk) and the kids enjoyed dancing with many of the other kids on the island. The open floor plan on the top floor was great for meals and having fun with the family in the evening. The beach is beautiful and was not too crowded. We especially enjoyed the shower stall located under the house (hot and cold water). It was great to be able to wash off the sand and salt water before going into the house. The beach house is about a 30-45 minute drive to Wilmington (USS North Carolina) and about a 30 minute drive plus short ferry ride to the NC Aquarium in Fort Fisher. The house is in the perfect location to access the beach, local restaurants, or local activities. We would absolutely return to Holden Beach and definitely would stay at "The Great Escape" again.
