The villa was designed by me for the family.
Memories of our Villa Bougainvillea holiday will last a lifetime. The villa is spacious, well-appointed and perfectly located. Every day, from the villa's mountain-side perch, we enjoyed the sights of Taormina below, Castelmola above, Mount Etna to the south-west and the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. Just perfect!
As the parents of five, with several grandchildren, the villa suited us well. Three of our children and their families and visited during our month-long stay, along with two of our cousins and their families. At one point, we had ten people (including one infant) in the villa at the same time. There was plenty of room for all and we all enjoyed the luxury of the villa's swimming pool.
For the mid-agers and youngsters among us, the walk from the villa down to and up from Taormina was a delight, and so too was walk from the villa up to and down from Castelmola. I found said walks more challenging than did my wife who is a more fit 76 year old.
Gorgio, what can I say? We just loved it ... all of it. Two of our children and a hand-full of grandchildren were unable to make this trip. So, God willing, we will be back. Next time with the balance of our family will join us. My grandparents were from the Enna province and we have cousins who live in that part of Sicily. We visit Sicily every three or four years, so we will be back.
Too, I cannot close without stating that Silvana was a delight. You are fortunate to have such an able property manager. She could not have been more helpful whenever the need arose.
Thank you for sharing your villa with us.
This is a beautiful villa about a ten minute drive from the center of Taormina, with spectacular views of the coastline and Mt. Aetna and a 15-20 minute walk up to the beautiful town of Castelmola at the top of the mountain. The drive up from Taormina is challenging, with very sharp turns and narrow roads (rent a small car!) but your efforts are rewarded once you arrive. The villa is spacious and very comfortable with a very functional kitchen, bathrooms for each room, a lovely swimming pool and plenty of space to relax. The owners were very accommodating throughout the process and helped make the vacation a success. Sylvana was the liaison in Taormina and she was very kind and helpful for all issues (plus she speaks English perfectly if needed). A cook was provided for reasonable rates on the days you just wanted to stay put. Like others here have commented, staying 1 week is OK but it takes that long to learn the ropes. Stay 2 if you can! Another tip, try the walk down to Taormina instead of dealing with the driving and parking which is very challenging. Also, drive to Eloro beach if you can about an hours drive South. Beautiful sand beach with warm, aquamarine Mediterranean Sea. You will love this place! And we will be back!!
We (two families with kids) had a most wonderful holiday at the villa and in Taormina/Castelmola.
The villa is ideal two families. Not only has each bedroom its own bathroom and shower but the villa also has a spacious kitchen and plenty of room if one wants to spent time together. The views were absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed our morning coffees and dinners on the terrace and admired the scenery: Mount Etna, city of Taormina and the sea. Sometimes we climbed up to Castelmola and had a dinner in one of its wonderful pizzerias with even greater views. Luckily, the path to Castelmola is on the shadow side in the afternoon and evenings.
The kids, five all together, just loved the pool and spent hours every day by playing and swimming. The temperature of the water was just perfect to cool down in the heat of the day. Of course, we also spent one day on the beach in Naxos and one in Bella Isola. The water in the sea was clear and the temperature just perfect for swimming. We also had an exciting one day trip to Etna. Up in the mountain, the temperature was around 20C - so very good for hiking even though the day was very hot in Taormina.
We really had an unforgettable holiday - everyone just wished that we had booked the villa for at least two weeks. The is certainly so much to see in Sisily.
The owner Giorgio was a pleasure to deal with from the beginning. Very responsive and flexible. The villa is situated on the edge of a cliff with beautiful views. We had 4 couples and it was a perfect size for all of us to have room and privacy. The villa is slightly dated, but...is very comfortable. We rented cars and would drive our car to the car park when we wanted to go into the city center. That would be my suggestion. We were able to comfortably park two cars at the Villa.
An excellent property with a fantastic view of the Bay of Naxos and Etna. The villa is ideal for eight and could easily be used by four couples since each bedroom has a good level of privacy and each has its own bathroom and shower. The listing is entirely accurate but in many ways does not do it justice since there are many other parts to this property; terraces front and back, access all round including external staircase and separate access to the two apartments, extensive gardens, and parking for three cars. The housekeeper was very helpful and responsive to the one issue that we had (malfunctioning aircon control). Do not rely on a satnav to find it first time; there are several layers of roads (tunnels) in Castelmola/Taormina and the satnav ends up looking like spaghetti - follow the owners written instructions and take a good scale map. The only drawback was the size of the fridge which was inadequate for 8, but the owner had arranged for a new larger fridge based on other reviewers comments and it arrived the evening before we left - just our luck, but it does demonstrate that the owner is responsive. I would gladly recommend this property. Whilst there, a 'must do' is a trip up Etna; we used 'Etna Moving' having identified them from Trip Advisor - an unforgettable excursion. The path to Castelmola (another 'must do') is just outside the front door, but don't attempt it in the heat of the day. A most efficient bus service into Taormina and up to Castelmola runs from the end of the road, but a car is still highly recommended if only to do grocery shopping. Overall an excellent holiday.
The description of the villa did not fail.
Absolutely stunning view and very practical with the rooms on separate levels. The garden has so many different fruits which is fascinating for us coming from the very north.(Denmark)
Some problems with the electricity and internet because of a big storm. Also a broken watertap in one off the bathrooms.
Silvana was extreamly helpfull and serviceminded so everthing got taken care of and we had an interesting talk with her about Taormina and It's history.
We would all like to come back here. There's so much to see in this region and it is a beautiful place.
Taormina Taormina is famous for its unique elevated position with two bays and a clear view of the active volcano Mount Etna. This mystical energy atmosphere already attracted Greeks in pre-Christian times. The Greek colonization was carried out in accordance with the weitgehendem Siculi, the Sicilian natives. Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Saracens, Normans and Spaniards also left their mark. The numerous monuments of antiquity, and the beautifully restored buildings from the Renaissance immerse the visitors in the historic ambiance of this important city, in the 19th Century Italy fascinated travelers from the north. Taormina is a very successful combination of history and modernity, pulsating with life and atmosphere of high culture. Restaurants, hotels, Italian elegance of the shops are interspersed with terraces, stunning ocean views and mysterious narrow streets. The mild climate, proximity to beaches, the much vaunted Grotta Azzurra and the Italian nobility, seasoned with Sicilian flavor, have risen above all other places of Taormina on the island and make visits outside the season interesting. Taormina has always been a source of inspiration for poets and writers over the centuries, from Ovid DH Lawrence. The Icelandic author Halldor Laxness, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955, wrote most of his novel 'The great weavers of Kashmir' in this place. Taormina is a fashionable meeting place of artists and personalities. Including Alexander Dumas, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Klimt, Richard Wagner, Oscar Wilde, Truman Capote, John Steinbeck, Ingmar Bergman, Francis Ford Coppola, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Federico Fellini, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Elizabeth Taylor and Woody Allen. The Film Festival and the opera and concert performances at the Teatro Greco in summer attract visitors from all over the world. Magnificent countryside, original mountain villages, the Alcantara Gorge, archaeological excavations are very interesting and worthwhile attractions nearby. In addition, all of Sicily attracted to the discovery of its treasures. CASTELMOLA Castelmola is an original and high on the cliff village situated above Taormina. The fort and the defenses - from here you have a beautiful view over the coast, the valleys and Taormina - should protect the inhabitants from invaders from the sea. A visit to the church of San Giorgio is worthwhile. The remaining authentic Sicilian village offers a variety of small cafes and restaurants. SICILY "Italy without Sicily leaves no image in the mind: this is just the key to everything" (Goethe), Sicily is the root of Europe, not only the Greek culture migrated north from here, but brought from the north had come Normans and Hohenstaufen the refined culture of the South back in the old country. Sicily is a land of contrasts. For centuries, the Mediterranean island attracts people and can not let go. Ancient monuments, modern life, the blue sea with the Grotta Azzurra, the active volcano of Europe are signs of the most amazing present energy that inspired both the local population and visitors.
