Our beautiful duplex home has been Suzy's home her whole life, as her family moved here in 1950. Suzy has been a life-long gardener here in Berkeley and Arun has divided his time between a teaching career at UC Berkeley and as a fashion event photographer for Getty Images.
Arun Nevader purchased this apartment in 1950
Sierra Street is a special place. All our visitors have recognized its unique hilltop beauty and serenity, a neighborhood rich in families and Berkeley tradition, feeling country-like, but within walking distance of all that you will ever need or want to do during your stay.
Having rebuilt this magical home from the ground up, it has given us the chance to create a once in a lifetime experience, which we feel every day that we are here. Sunrises over the hills, a sky of orange whispers, and sunsets over the Golden Gate Bridge, casting a warm and comforting glow upon us, birds in our trees, flowers in our garden, the sense that beauty here is timeless, as we begin to realize that we are not. Sierra Street is the perfect Bay Area getaway--whether you are coming simply to vacation, for a wedding, for your family member at Berkeley, for a conference, or for the wine country, you will find Sierra Street to be a perfect choice among many. We welcome you to see for yourself.
Here’s the bottom line: We booked our next stay in Arun and Suzy’s apartment when we were just halfway through our first (month-long) visit.
The apartment is spacious, comfortable, immaculate, and exactly as pictured and described on the website. It has an excellent kitchen for those who want to cook. There are two decks, and views of the Bay to the west, the Berkeley Hills to the east, and downtown Oakland to the south. And the windows overlook Suzy’s beautiful garden. The location can’t be beat. Situated between Solano and the Gourmet Ghetto (on Shattuck), the apartment is within walking distance of at least three first-class restaurants; ethnic food of every description; and a wonderful little tacqueria (Cactus, on Solano). Also the Monterey Market, the Monterey Fish Market, and a good wine shop beside them. Also supermarkets; new and used bookstores; ATM; and even a nice little gym. Easy on-street parking. But you don’t really need a car, unless you want to leave the Bay Area, since it’s only a twenty-minute walk to the North Berkeley BART station.
Arun and Suzy, who live downstairs, couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful, from our first dealings to our departure.
We really enjoyed our stay in Berkeley. The house was really clean and was set up perfectly for our needs. Coming and going was a breeze, parking was never a problem, and several restaurants are walking distance. Couldn't be more satisfied!
We booked this property for a long weekend in connection with graduation at UC Berkeley. The home was beautiful, very clean, and well equipped. Five of us stayed in the home and were very comfortable. We appreciated the home’s location near campus and easy parking. We also enjoyed the lovely garden and views of San Francisco from the deck when we spent time at the house. Suzy met us on arrival and gave a nice tour of the property, and we want to thank her for the wine, fruit, coffee, and other amenities that greeted us on arrival. We strongly recommend this rental property and thank Suzy and Arun for their hospitality.
We have booked this appartment for 5 nights in March 2016. It was perfect for three persons (it would also be very convenient for two couples+one person, or one large family). The description is accurate, the appartment is clean and very well equipped. Arun and Suzy, the owners, live nearby and are very helpful. They offered a few welcome items and gave us a ride to the BART on our departure.
The area is residential and quiet, 10-15' walk from North-Berkeley BART station. It is 35' walk from the west side of the University campus, 45' walk from the Math department. There are a few restaurants and shops nearby on Solano avenue, but we have been mainly using those on Shattuck avenue which was on our way back. It is bit far from the MSRI which was our final goal, but this would be no problem with a car.
We strongly recommend the place and thank Arun and Suzy for their hospitality !

My wife, three adult children and I stayed at this property for a week's vacation, and I cannot say enough about how pleased we all were. The apartment, owned by the Nevader family, is beautifully decorated, sufficiently spacious, very clean, and fully stocked with all the amenities you would need for a short or long stay. The front porch overlooks Sierra Street, a lovely, quiet Berkeley neighborhood, with views of the East Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. The apartment is also conveniently close to the BART station, stores, restaurants, and UC Berkeley, by foot and by car. We would certainly stay at this property again without hesitation. Finally, thanks to Arun and Suzy Nevader for their terrific hospitality.
Within 2 miles of the University of California, Berkeley.
