Everything the Big Island has to offer. Welcome to Kona OneNalo, a community of 12 private homes in a gated oceanfront community. Your rental borders one of the best snorkeling areas on the Big Island and is 200 yards from Magic Sands Beach. You can snorkel, surf, scuba, swim or just sunbathe on the beach, all within 200 yards of your front door.

Your home has two lanais from which to sip your morning Kona coffee and view the spectacular Pacific ocean and Kona coastline. Watch the surfers from the lanais when the surf is up. Let the waves lull you to sleep while you watch the stars from the master bedroom. Wake to the calls of tropical birds and the sounds of the surf. Plumerias and gardenias are among the lush landscaping surrounding Kona OneNalo. Massive lanai doors permit unfettered views of the surf from both the first and second floors.

This home boasts a three-story cathedral ceiling in the living room and cathedral ceilings in the bedrooms. The master bedroom is furnished with a California king bed and a TempurPedic mattress. The second bedroom has twin beds which can be configured to a king. Both bedrooms have private baths. There is a den with a trundle bed that opens out to two twin beds. A full dining room and a gourmet kitchen make mealtimes a breeze.

The house is decorated with many works of art with an emphasis on local artists and their work. The Hawaiian ambiance is carried out with koa trim throughout the home and an assortment of glass fishing floats.

Kona OneNalo is minutes from Kahulu'u Beach, perfect for snorkeling and surf lessons and populated by amazing tropical fish and sea turtles. There are many golf courses nearby for golf enthusiasts, and the pool and adjoining whirlpool/spa at Kona OneNalo are steps away from your door. You are centrally located on Alii Drive, only four miles from the center of Kailua-Kona and one mile from the Keauhou Bay community.

Further afield you can visit Volcanoes National Park, the Mauna Kea observatory or the famous black sand beaches.

About The Owner

My husband and I first went to Hawai'i in 1967 and were captivated. It took more than 30 years before we actually bought a house. We live on the East Coast, but decided it was truly worth the 10 hour flight to be able to spend time in Hawai'i.

Great family accomodation

Our family stayed 9 nights for a reunion and found everything we needed and more at this property. Opening the huge front glass wall to let in the morning breeze off the lanai was just wonderful! View - amazing. Two back bdrms a bit noisy with the road traffic but hundreds of other accommodations are on the same road, so pretty hard to get away from it if you want the splendid view - a pair of earplugs and no problem. The master suite is GRAND! Convenient to downtown - just down the road, a trolley goes by every two hours for only $1.50 each way which saves looking for parking. The grounds and pool were meticulous and clean. Susan was quick to respond to our several inquiries and the receipt of keys, etc was well organized. We appreciated the boogie boards, umbrellas, coolers and travel beach chairs. For two couples and some kids it is a perfect spot. We would absolutely stay in the same unit again. Maholo!

Very lovely property, with beautiful landscaping, by the wat and the VRBO description very accurate.

We found the description of the property to be very accurate, with lovely surroundings and beautiful landscaping. The written instructions were easy to follow, in sufficient detail and accurate. The ladies in our party especially liked the extremely well-appointed kitchen, with every conceivable appliance, container and the utensils making cooking fun in it. The interior decorating we found to be very tasteful, making for pleasant surroundings. Everything was clean and well maintained. The units in the complex are situated in such a manner as to provide privacy and quiet. We were close (but not too close) to shopping and restaurants and the nearest beach was an easy, short walk away. As an added bonus, since we were there on July 4, we watched the Kona fireworks right from our front deck, away from the bustle of crowds but with good views of the exploding fireworks. And not to forget the gorgeous sunsets most evenings. We are definitely recommending this property to friends, as a great place to enjoy the Big Island.

All in all, we were very happy and would like to come visit again in the future.

Great place in Kailua-Kona

We had a fantastic stay here in mid July. Our family of 5 found the location to be perfect. It is 3 min from a great snorkel spot, 5 min from a grocery store, and 10 min from all of the restaurants in the area. You are a good 45 minutes from the best beaches in the NW, but it was a pleasant drive there. As for the property itself the grounds are beautiful and the pool/jacuzzi area are perfect. Though the units are fairly close together it felt very secluded. Road noise from Ali'i drive was present, but not a big issue for us. The rooms were comfortable, the kitchen was fun to use, and the Lanai was great. The property owners/managers were great communicators and eager to make our stay more pleasant.

A couple of things that you need to know. The house does not have A/C and the fans are mostly adequate, but it does get hot (especially upstairs in Mid-July). This wasn't a huge issue for us as I didn't have a problem getting to sleep at night with the fans blasting. Also, there is no shower/bath downstairs. If you have an elderly guest (like we did) it took some effort to help them upstairs to shower. Lastly, the beach right next door (Magic Sands) is super cute, but can be quite dangerous because of the strong surf. Apparently broken necks and 911 calls are not un-common from here, and in fact some of the locals have dubbed it "Tragic Slams". I learned this the hard way after spending my first evening at urgent care after being slammed into the ocean floor while body boarding. Be careful!!

Lastly, if you're looking for a special meal at a special location try Holuakoa Cafe up in the hills. It's only 10 min away, but feels like a different universe. Amazing organic food in a unique setting.

Boondoggle!

This review is LONG overdue. I've written it in my mind a hundred times. We loved our stay at this comfortable, airy, accessible town home. My husband and I stayed in the master suite and relished every morning waking up to the sound of the ocean and the birds chirping. The kids had their own room and bathroom and our friend stayed downstairs in the bonus room away from the family and enjoyed having her privacy when she needed it.

The kitchen was pretty good and we did a lot of our cooking there. We found a local market that carries a healthier, wholesome options and avoided going to the big markets which sours a vacation in my mind. We went to Soul Center not far from the condo and near the brewery for yoga and mediation and then went to the brewery to watch a band play so it was fun to experience some local culture.

There is a great beach nearby where we spent much of our time watching the locals surf and it was great the kids could walk their on their own. We only used the pool a little but it was fun to take a dip when we needed it. We did snorkel in the little bay for quite awhile, be careful getting in and out but totally doable for those who are sturdy.

Susan was very gracious and communicative. We were clear all along of how to get there and get in etc and then on the last day we missed our flight. (make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport. they require an hour and a half which we did not know) Anyway, we called Susan in a panic and turned out we were able to stay one more night. We felt very taken care of.

In short if and when we return to Hawaii we will likely stay here again. It felt like home by the time we left and we'd love to come again.

Beautiful property and great location

When we first walked into the house my son said "Mom, great job!". The property exceeded our expectations. It is well appointed and the hosts are generous with all of the amenities for your stay. There were beach towels, coolers, beach chairs, etc so we didn't need to buy anything unnecessarily. The house is spacious, clean and comfortable. We ate every meal at the large outside table with a lovely view of the water. The hosts were friendly and responsive, providing great customer service. We would highly recommend this property and hope to stay here again, but for longer!

The only detraction, from an otherwise wonderful stay, was the road noise. Ali'i Drive can be loud, especially for those sleeping in the back bedroom.

Owner's Response: One of the joys of staying on Ali'i Drive is that you are right on the ocean; the drawback of staying on Ali'i Drive is that you are on Ali'i Drive! To its credit, Ali'i Drive is a residential two-lane street which parallels the ocean and doesn't get much traffic at night at all, but it is still a street. Personally, I find that all those tropical birds wake me up in the morning rather than any traffic noise! I'm glad to hear that our guests still want to return and for even more time than they spent the first time. We will welcome them back!
