EASY GOING GUY
The Owner purchased this condo in 2000
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION,
Nice place. Curtain walls. Good for getting to and from convention center.
The good news is, the location is convenient to everything downtown and the Gaslamp Quarter. Ingress and egress is easy once you get used to the quirks of the lock system. If you plan to sleep 6 here, be sure you are all close and immodest.
This is basically 1 very large room with 1 interior door to the toilet. A queen bed in one corner, surrounded by cloth drapes and pull curtains, faces the large, drab bath area gated by curtains instead of a wall and door and a shower stall. So my early morning shower woke everyone. Next to the curtained queen are twin beds, also surrounded by cloth strips.
The place is not a bargain, but it does have 3 beds, (besides the sleep sofa) which served the needs of 3 brothers out to see a ballgame. If you are 4 and close (like Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice) or a young family of six, it will work.
It is characterized as 1228 sq ft of the best amenities available. Furniture, kitchen fixtures and appliances are decent and in good condition, but claiming to be the best available is a stretch. Seating for TV is comfy for 2 on the couch; tight for 3. For the rest of your party there are bar stools or kitchen chairs.
A patio set for 3 is located downstairs by the gated walkway from the street, all of which is enclosed by a block wall and black fabric on a chain link privacy fence that separates you from the parking lot and a similar patio to the lower apartment. The patio's grill (gas converted to charcoal) was filled with burnt and unburned briquets—not ready for prime steak.
The place was generally clean, except for the grit and debris in the drawer below the oven. There is a short ladder and walkway over the entry stairs to a window and rooftop next door which is for emergency use only (aka fire escape). But we saw a kitchen table and 2 chairs there plus a water glass on the table holding spent cigarettes. For your comfort during emergencies, I guess.
Although wifi is available, it did not work when we arrived. I called the number provided and left a message. Many hours later I got a text with password to use the wifi from a nearby cafe. We never heard from the owner all weekend. We did find the router and got it to work by resetting it. Twice.
You are reminded to bring soap and shampoo, etc. The space is basic and clean. It could have been (and still could be) a lot better space. I guess the location trumps high-quality amenities.
Stayed there for 3 nights in August. Never having stayed in an open loft. I wasn't sure if we all would have enough space; be able to sleep, etc. It worked out fine, and all five of us really enjoyed it. Kitchen had everything we needed, beds comfortable, etc. I noted the pictures had two living room chairs that weren't there. Only the couch in the living room. Super location! Would recommend highly.
This is the only place I will stay on my next visit. Great for kids too! A+
Two friends and I stayed in this loft while in town for a conference at the convention center and it was perfect. We loved the set up, it was clean, with easy to understand instructions, and less than a 5 minute walk from the convention center and the Gaslamp district. We could have easily fit three more people, but because of the loft style you'll need to be on the same sleep schedule as everyone else. This worked great for us, as did making our own meals (Ralph's grocery store is two blocks away). There's a queen bed, two twin beds, a futon like couch and I think the other couch folds out. The only walls are around the toilet area, but the curtains worked great for privacy. If I come to SD for another conference I will check this place first. Owner was very easy to communicate with.
We provide bikes for your use around the area. Go Green! Take a short bike ride to the water taxi behind the convention center or ride to pier and take the ferry to Coronado to enjoy the best beaches, most picturesque restaurants, and upscale living in SD.
