Hale Moana is a Non-Smoking studio nestled beneath two lovely shade trees with a 'treehouse' view. Our studio is cooled by refreshing island tradewinds and by the shade from our Monkeypod and Tamarind Trees.
Hale Moana has interior teak and bamboo furnishings which rest on a cool, quartzite slate tile floor. Private parking & entry to a 750+ square foot studio and lanai. The interior also has a vaulted ceiling with skylights and plenty of light throughout. Gas two-burner cooking inside and a gas BBQ grill outside. 39' TV. Wifi - password provided.
Once settled in at Hale Moana, you will be a few delightfully sandy paces to beautiful Kailua Bay and Kalama Beach with views of Flat island, the Mokulua islands (Moku Nui and Moku Iki), outer islands (sometimes Molokai and Maui are visible in the distance) and wonderful sunrises too on our East facing, windward side of the island. Listen to the birds, ocean and breezes...

Feb. 2016: A new law is in effect as of January 2016 which gives the city more manpower to stop vacation rentals operating without permits. There have been no permits issued since 1989. I am the owner/operator of a short and long term rental (mostly short term) - of an attached unit - at my home. I have run this small business for about 14 years with a desire that the city open up the permitting process to me and those like me. This new law is a serious push to shut down vacation rentals on Oahu; it remains to be seen how things shake out over the coming months with the City's enforcement, property visits, cease and desist letters and groups and individuals reporting to the City on rentals.
Update, late March 2016: Those opposed to the actions of the C&C of Honolulu regarding short term rentals have hired a law firm which is requesting the C&C stop their aggressive actions against short term rentals on Oahu.
Feb. 2017: Ongoing issues with B&B's/short term rentals/transient accommodations in the City and County of Honolulu. The C&C has issued my rental business a new tax ID number and continues to accept my tax payments. My visitors continue to enjoy and return to my Hale Moana.

This home was built for our tutu, Moana, in 1939-40; it was one of the first houses in the neighborhood, when the streets were paved with crushed coral. Moana married and moved to Kailua, from Waikiki, to raise a family of three. The older generation remained in Waikiki, in the family home there, until the mid '50's. We built onto the main house in 2003 to create what is now our studio, Hale Moana. We hope you enjoy the space we've created as much as our guests, friends and family members do.

Can't wait to visit Hale Moana again
This was our third excellent stay at Hale Moana. We have family on Oahu so are on the windward side a couple times a year. Our itinerary always includes local family, some R&R and beach time, and staying connected to our offices. Hale Moana has always been perfect for supporting those three things.
If we had our choice, this would be our private oasis for every visit.
This was our third stay here in the last 6 years and we will be back again. This studio has everything you need for a relaxed, stress free stay close to the beach. Jennifer is a fantastic host and the studio is so clean and welcoming after a long flight. The sounds of the geckos and wind in the beautiful trees at night add to the charm.
ALOHA! Just returned from OAHU, much more intriguing than we thought it would be! Most of the island is so sparsely populated and yours for enjoying!
Hale Moana studio is a hidden gem! Jennifer has created a stunning artist's retreat, a sleek architectural beauty! A perfect blend of contemporary and and authentic Hawaii. Art and beauty at every turn. In a lovely residential neighborhood and a block from the beach, we slept with the hum of crashing waves and ocean breeze, and the chirps and crows of friendly hens and roosters! Private lanai allowed us to shower with window and doors open! No A/C but the fans kept my husband and I very comfortable in August! Slept well in the comfy king-size bed.
Kailua is absolutely our new favorite beach town, a lovely down- to- earth community with a great combo of fun shops, but also Whole Foods and Target (a quick trip to Costco on our way from the airport!). Adorable and fearless 3 year olds surfing at the Annual kids surfing competition on our beach a block away, inspired us to practice our boogie boarding (2 boards, 2 snorkel gear, chairs, umbrella, beach bag, washer, dryer and more all supplied)
We were not that interested in hanging out in Honolulu or Waikiki, though we did drive through on our expeditions, less than a half hour away... Some interesting things to do free nearby ... just get the road and stop wherever!, hike Lanikai Pillboxes, hike Makapu’u Tidepools, hike Manoa Falls Trail, (bug spray), snorkel Hanauma Bay (gotta get there very early to get parking!), Lanai Lookout ( hop the wall and venture), so much more! Rent a kayak at Kailua Beach Adventures, very reasonable price for a fun time... We were only there a week... another few days would have allowed us to explore more of the north and west shores...all gorgeous and awe inspiring!

We stayed at this property as a 6-day extension of a family vacation in a large house near-by (with pool and air conditioning). We were very pleased with it. It is an easy walk to the beach (which we loved) and we could hear the waves and feel the breeze constantly - we didn't miss the AC at all. Comfortable bed, great shower and tasteful decor. Also very private.
My stay at the Hale Moana was outstanding. Jennifer is the consummate host being professional, flexible, and very personable. No detail was left out to make the visit a wonderful experience. The property was impeccably kept and furnished, yet warm and inviting. I highly recommend staying at the Hale Moana and frankly would not consider any other location if I have the opportunity to return to Oahu.
Kailua - windward side of Oahu. Nicely situated, beautiful town and ocean. Between Waimanalo and Kaneohe. Main roads in and out are Kamehameha Highway ('circle island' route, 'beach road'), Pali Highway (Kailua to Honolulu/Waikiki) and H3 Highway (Kailua to Pearl Harbor).
My Hale Moana is just up from the Kalama Beach Club and Kalama Beach Park, cross the "beach road", walk the sandy access path and you are at the center of Kailua Bay; a three mile stretch of one of the "best beaches in the U.S.".
