Spacious 1 bedroom apartment, Full shower, Sleeps 2. Two min. walk to beach.

Hale Moana is a Non-Smoking studio apartment nestled beneath two lovely shade trees with a 'treehouse' view. The studio is cooled by refreshing island tradewinds and by the shade from our Monkeypod and Tamarind Trees.

This space has interior teak and bamboo furnishings which rest on a cool, quartzite slate tile floor. Private parking & entry to a 750+ square foot studio and lanai. The interior also has a vaulted ceiling with skylights and plenty of light throughout. Gas two-burner cooking inside and a gas BBQ grill outside. 39' TV. Wifi - password provided.

Once settled in at Hale Moana, you will be a few delightfully sandy paces to beautiful Kailua Bay and Kalama Beach with views of Flat island, the Mokulua islands (Moku Nui and Moku Iki), outer islands (sometimes Molokai and Maui are visible in the distance) and wonderful sunrises too on our East facing, windward side of the island. Listen to the birds, ocean and breezes...

RENTAL DESCRIPTION/HOUSE RULES: Attached studio with private entrance and parking. No air conditioning, no breakfast provided, no maid service. On-site parking for one vehicle only. No parties, events, or gatherings.

This home was built for our tutu, Moana, in 1939-40; it was one of the first houses in the neighborhood, when the streets were paved with crushed coral. Moana married and moved to Kailua, from Waikiki, to raise a family of three. The older generation remained in Waikiki, in the family home there, until the mid '50's. We built onto the main house in 2003 to create what is now our studio apartment, Hale Moana. We hope you enjoy the space we've created as much as our guests, friends and family members do.

What makes this studio unique

This spot in Kailua is close to the beach and just far enough away from Kailua Town to be the perfect jumping off point for an island excursion, a lazy day down the access path to the center of Kailua Bay or for enjoying the happy bustle of Kailua Town with its shops, food and activities.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful week long stay in Jennifer’s studio. We enjoyed great communication from our initial inquiry to the end of our rental. The property is just as beautiful as it looks in pictures and it is spacious and well laid out. We loved how private the property feels and how beautiful the gardens are. I’m not sure what was blooming when we were visiting but the scent walking from the gate to the deck was fantastic.



The location is great – on a quiet street and just a couple of minutes walk to beautiful Kalama Beach. A short drive or bike ride takes you into the heart of Kailua town and the rest of Oahu is at your doorstep. We can’t wait to go back and encourage anyone contemplating a visit to make Hale Moana their home base for exploring the island.

  • The bathroom is a favorite! Open shower, room enough for two. Come in from the beach and hose off on the lanai or come right into the shower room for a warm water rinse.

This is the only place to stay in Kailua Beach.

This little hidden GEM is the place to stay in Kailua. And this wonderful lady named Jennifer is the best host on the Island.

My wife and I came to Hawaii for our 10 year anniversary. We wanted a place that was more secluded and quite, but still close to activities. Hale Moana was everything we hoped for. Especially if your a beach person and sand comber. We are a very active couple and enjoy body surfing and runs on the beach, which is steps away from Hale Moana. AWESOME!!

We also love to HIKE and were close to the "Pill Box" hike site.

And the story begins.....

After our long and beautiful hike, we came upon a small problem with our car rental. We had our rental car broken into. They made entry through our passenger side window and took our bag of suits and towels. So, word of thought, maybe don't rent a flashy yellow convertible Camero. Maybe just leave your doors unlocked with nothing to take.

So, back to this Awesome lady "Jennifer"....

As we got up in the morning to return the vehicle, she had our entire car covered in a tarp from the drizzle that morning so that the rain wouldn't damage our car rental.

Who does that!!

The small town is a quick drive or close walk. There are a few good places to chow near by. And when in doubt.... ask your HOST. She knows it all. When we return to Kailua Beach, this will be our choice to stay. We shopped for all our meals and had right kitchen to cook everything. The shower is amazing and the small sitting area in the rear is perfect. You will not be disappointed.

My new favorite place to stay!

This is a darling, spacious single with everything one could want. Comfortable bed, beautiful furnishings and beautifully decorated. Jennifer went out of her way to make sure everything was in perfect order by the time I arrived. Walking distance to beautiful Kailua Beach was a plus. Lovely stay in Kailua Town

This place is pretty close to perfect, it's clean and comfortable. The beach is a minute walk away and Kailua is away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu but not so far that it's a long drive. I would stay here again.

Amazing!

Just like the other past reviewers, I want to keep this gem all to ourselves! I couldn't have asked for more on our 5 nights in Hale Moana. Jennifer is such a gracious and thoughtful host. She welcomed us with fresh flowers in the home, a personalized note and an entire folder filled with information for local restaurants, shops, activities, etc. She even left Hawaiian postcards with stamps to send out to our family and loved ones. Let's just say, she thought of it all. The home was filled with all the daily essentials and more. From extra sheets and blankets, to a laundry basket, beach towels, and all kinds of beach equipment that we used daily (snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrella, football, sunblock, and bug spray). The location of this place is spot on, literally 1 block from the best beach in Oahu. Easy access, great parking spot right next to the entrance of the home and even a swing to play on. Hale moana also had a secluded patio space with a BBQ grill that we used regularly. From the patio, you can access the shower and bathroom. I loved that shower! Perfect after a long day at the beach. I cannot say enough great things about this place and Jennifer. She communicated via text and was able to answer any questions we had and also provided great tips for some of the hikes we planned to do. My husband and I have rented places in Cuba, Costa Rica, Utah, Mammoth, Tahoe and I must say this by far was one of the best experiences we have had. We didn't want to leave and definitely can't wait to visit Hale Moana again! Mahalo, Jennifer!

Kailua - windward side of Oahu. Nicely situated, beautiful town and ocean. Between Waimanalo and Kaneohe. Main roads in and out are Kamehameha Highway ('circle island' route, 'beach road'), Pali Highway (Kailua to Honolulu/Waikiki) and H3 Highway (Kailua to Pearl Harbor).

My Hale Moana is just up from the Kalama Beach Club and Kalama Beach Park, cross the "beach road", walk the sandy access path and you are at the center of Kailua Bay; a three mile stretch of one of the "best beaches in the U.S.".
