Why Aloha and mahalo for your inquiry/booking! CONTACT FOR ACCURATE AVAILABILITY :) chose Kalama Tract

This home was built for our tutu, Moana, in 1939-40; it was one of the first houses in the neighborhood, when the streets were paved with crushed coral. Moana married and moved to Kailua, from Waikiki, to raise a family of three. The older generation remained in Waikiki, in the family home there, until the mid '50's. We built onto the main house in 2003 to create what is now our studio apartment, Hale Moana. We hope you enjoy the space we've created as much as our guests, friends and family members do.

What makes this studio unique

This spot in Kailua is close to the beach and just far enough away from Kailua Town to be the perfect jumping off point for an island excursion, a lazy day down the access path to the center of Kailua Bay or for enjoying the happy bustle of Kailua Town with its shops, food and activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

There are already so many glowing reviews of Hale Moana that I don’t know what we can add!

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful week long stay in Jennifer’s studio. We enjoyed great communication from our initial inquiry to the end of our rental. The property is just as beautiful as it looks in pictures and it is spacious and well laid out. We loved how private the property feels and how beautiful the gardens are. I’m not sure what was blooming when we were visiting but the scent walking from the gate to the deck was fantastic.

The location is great – on a quiet street and just a couple of minutes walk to beautiful Kalama Beach. A short drive or bike ride takes you into the heart of Kailua town and the rest of Oahu is at your doorstep. We can’t wait to go back and encourage anyone contemplating a visit to make Hale Moana their home base for exploring the island.

Thanks Jennifer for sharing your slice of paradise!

This is the only place to stay in Kailua Beach.

  • 5 of 5

This little hidden GEM is the place to stay in Kailua. And this wonderful lady named Jennifer is the best host on the Island.

My wife and I came to Hawaii for our 10 year anniversary. We wanted a place that was more secluded and quite, but still close to activities. Hale Moana was everything we hoped for. Especially if your a beach person and sand comber. We are a very active couple and enjoy body surfing and runs on the beach, which is steps away from Hale Moana. AWESOME!!

We also love to HIKE and were close to the "Pill Box" hike site.

And the story begins.....

After our long and beautiful hike, we came upon a small problem with our car rental. We had our rental car broken into. They made entry through our passenger side window and took our bag of suits and towels. So, word of thought, maybe don't rent a flashy yellow convertible Camero. Maybe just leave your doors unlocked with nothing to take.

So, back to this Awesome lady "Jennifer"....

As we got up in the morning to return the vehicle, she had our entire car covered in a tarp from the drizzle that morning so that the rain wouldn't damage our car rental.

Who does that!!

The small town is a quick drive or close walk. There are a few good places to chow near by. And when in doubt.... ask your HOST. She knows it all. When we return to Kailua Beach, this will be our choice to stay. We shopped for all our meals and had right kitchen to cook everything. The shower is amazing and the small sitting area in the rear is perfect. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you Jennifer Mohalo

Owner's Response: Haha! You two are the best. Congrat's on your ten year anniversary - here's to many more happy and adventurous years to come. Big mahalos for taking time out of your schedule to post a review, which is the best way for visitors to get a little bit of a feel for my place, Kailua, and Oahu. Note to future guests - avoid renting flashy muscle cars in bright colors!
During this stay the property was under previous owner or management.

We were able to arrange an early check in with the owner Jennifer which was so appreciated by us after an all night flight.

This is a wonderfully thought out Studio from the gorgeous windows and skylights which truly fill the interior with light, the furnishings, the beautiful slate floor and the amazing wet room which can be accessed off the lanai or internally.

It is very spacious accommodation for 2 people.

Jennifer was onsite if needed, on our first day I noticed that the fridge was on but it just wasnt cold, we tried turning it off and rebooting it but still no cold factor, after speaking with Jennifer she had a brand new full size fridge installed that same day - now that is an owner who immediately deals with any problem that occurs.

There were a lot of extras that we havent had supplied in other accommodations - like full size quality soap for the shower, enough toilet paper for the stay, paper towels, tissues - those little things that you usually have to go and buy the first day.

For us it was wonderful to have a kettle for the gas stove top as we are both tea drinkers, heating water in the microwave is just not the same.

Another very handy inclusion are the full size washer and dryer outside the bathroom which make it easy to freshen up towels and do your own washing, washing liquid is also supplied.

It is literally 3 mins to the beach, walk out to the road and just head straight to the beach access at the road T junction, we enjoyed this access morning and night.

For access to Honolulu there is the bus - the 56 runs along Oneawa St about a 15 min walk or you can walk into Kailua for the 57 bus - about a 25 min walk. If you want to do a lot of getting around then hire a car as the 25 min walk into then back out of Kailua a couple of times a day can get tiring. Enterprise car hire is based right in Kailua and we have found them very good to deal with when staying at Kailua and have rented cars for short periods.

We were lucky enough during our stay to strike the 4th July Parade that traversed the bottom of the street as well as the fireworks that night on the beach.

A great place for lunch or Dinner is Buzz's - if you walk down to the beach rd and follow it back towards Kailua for about 25 mins you will cross the canal and arrive at Buzz's - great for food and cocktails but best to book, the walk back is equally pleasant.

We highly recommend this accommodation and we thank Jennifer for her wonderful assistance.

Clean and private

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage. An open studio with bedroom, dining and kitchen all in one room. There is a beach access path at the end of the street. There isn't air conditioning, but you don't need it with plenty of windows, ceiling & wall mounted fans. The owner lives next door and was available & always helpful. I plan on staying here again.

My new favorite place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is a darling, spacious single with everything one could want. Comfortable bed, beautiful furnishings and beautifully decorated. Jennifer went out of her way to make sure everything was in perfect order by the time I arrived. Walking distance to beautiful Kailua Beach was a plus. Stay here, you will love it! ``Diana, Los Angeles

Lovely stay in Kailua Town

  • 5 of 5

This place is pretty close to perfect, it's clean and comfortable. The beach is a minute walk away and Kailua is away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu but not so far that it's a long drive. I would stay here again.

Car: recommended

Kailua - windward side of Oahu. Nicely situated, beautiful town and ocean. Between Waimanalo and Kaneohe. Main roads in and out are Kamehameha Highway ('circle island' route, 'beach road'), Pali Highway (Kailua to Honolulu/Waikiki) and H3 Highway (Kailua to Pearl Harbor).

My Hale Moana is just up from the Kalama Beach Club and Kalama Beach Park, cross the "beach road", walk the sandy access path and you are at the center of Kailua Bay; a three mile stretch of one of the "best beaches in the U.S.".

Other Activities: boating, basketball court, shopping, kayaking, wildlife viewing, spa, miniature golf
