Villa Petra is a beautiful, classic, traditional mansion the 19th century. Century. Made entirely of stone and wood. The property has an exquisite garden, which I am proud, because I myself have designed and created it. A variety of colorful plants and trees along with a manicured lawn impress even the most discerning eye.
The house was renovated in 2012 taking into account the Cretan architecture and traditional construction with the utmost care. In this historical and ecological building materials such as stone and wood were used. The villa is accredited by the Greek National Tourism Organization GNTO (Greek National Tourism Organization).
This traditional, Cretan villa offers ample space for up to 6 people on two floors.
The top floor offers a generous living and dining area, 2 bedrooms, one with double bed, one with twin beds, 1 bathroom with shower and modern hydromassage, a fully equipped kitchen with washing machine, 2 balconies and a large terrace with an indescribable view of the Libyan Sea , In the lower floor is a double bedroom, a kitchen and a living room. All the windows in the villa have mosquito nets to can always enjoy the fresh air of the village.
The interior of the villa has been carefully designed to reflect its long history and the social status of its first owner. Viennese furniture and antiques create a warm and elegant atmosphere in keeping with the character of the house.
The property offers an indescribable panoramic views over the Libyan Sea, the fertile Messara plain over, and the Ida Mountains. The view gives an impression of the original Crete.
Unforgettable sunsets can be enjoyed in the spacious, park-like garden. Many shady, partly made of natural stone seating invite in the quiet mountain village Kalochorafitis to relax.
On the spacious covered terrace there is a force-giving breakfast with fresh fruit, honey, cheese and vegetables can be enjoyed from the Cretan nature.
Enjoy a refreshing dip in the private pool on hot summer days. For relaxation there are numerous sunny and shady spots in the garden.
Especially in the evening after sunset the entire object is wonderfully lit and shines with special luster.
The property is ideally equipped for 2 families or a group.
Guests receive a welcome message, consisting of fruits and vegetables of the season, as well as fresh mineral water.
During your stay we provide you free our in-house, biological olive oil for disposal.
We recently stayed for a week in Villa Petra and had a wonderful time thanks to the owners, a quiet location in a very small village and the overall charm of the house. Panoramic views, with plenty of outdoor space and a pool compliment this house which is equipped with everything one might need to "stay at home" and cook, bbq, relax, etc.. At the same time Villa Petra is near excellent beaches, small towns for markets and supplies, mountain villages, ancient sites and other natural attractions. If you are looking for a great place to stay in southern Crete this is an excellent option.
We can't thank the owners enough for their hospitality and opening this home to us. It is our hope to return for a much longer stay in the future.
We had a superb relaxing week here. The house is large, and with only an outside staircase, is like 2 flats. This would make it ideal for 2 couples or families, as each would have their own space and privacy. It is fairly simply furnished, but as you will be spending all your waking hours outside, this is irrelevant (but don't miss the ancestral photographs downstairs). The views across to the coast are stunning, especially from the balconies. The largest one gets dappled sunlight all day long and we had almost all our meals here. The garden is beautiful with seating to suit every need and time of day and lots of flowering plants and fruit trees. The pool is small, but big enough to swim round in circles so you can fool yourself that you have deserved your evening barbecue! The best bit is that it is fresh unchlorinated water in the pool - when the pump is on, fresh water flows in at one end and out the other to irrigate the olive grove further down the hill! The barbecue is large enough to cook for the whole village, and there is also a wood fired oven. I would have loved to try cooking pizza in this but somehow never got round to buying the ingredients.
If you want to see a lot of Crete, this is probably not the best place as it is not near the main tourist sights, but once you arrive, you won't want to tear yourselves away. At least that's what happened to us and we're not lazing by the pool type of people. We did manage a trip to Knosos and to Heraklion, about 80 or 90 minutes away. Towns with a good selection of shops are about 20 minutes drive. There are supermarkets, but ignore these and try the local shops - people are friendly and helpful and everything is fresh. There are tavernas in the next village, but we never tried them as we enjoyed barbecuing so much.
I've left the best bit till last - the owners. We arrived at about 2 a.m. and Vagelis and Stella were extremely welcoming, even apologising for keeping us waiting while they came from their home, when I hadn't rung them until we had actually arrived! Even at that time of night, they took time to show us around and make sure that we were settled in. Throughout our stay we were showered with gifts of home grown produce – melons, raki, olive oil (from the aforementioned olive grove), apple cake. They even brought friends and cooked us a barbecue one evening! Nowhere else in the world have we experienced such genuine friendliness and generosity.Book this old family home – you won’t regret it!
Carolin
We spent the second time a wonderful holiday in the village Kalohorafitis near Timbaki at the south coast of Crete in a beautifully decorated modernized stone house. It was for 4 weeks again a dream holiday in Crete. The village is very close to the Ida Mountains and you can hiking to the top of Psiloritis or to the Kamares cave. An off-road car is the advantage, so you can see the dirt roads high up at 2000m and hike from there. In Vori and Timbaki you can buy, even on the market every Friday. The beaches of Kokkinos Pyrgos, Matala and Agia Galini or Georgios are not far away. The house has plenty of space and is comfortably furnished also with beautiful garden furniture. There are free Wi-Fi and International and German television. The kitchen is perfect with a large oven, coffee machine, toaster, juicer, sandwich maker. There are fresh olive oil, fruit and vegetables from the owner. The owner is very friendly and lives in Timbaki. The pool is huge and only filled with fresh water from the fountain, without chlorine. The garden watered and there are lemon trees and fresh herbs. This home is the best we have ever had in Crete. The location is unique in the proximity of the mountains and the beach. Just beautiful.Carolin
Gerne wieder.
Kalochorafitis is a sleepy village on the southern slope of the Ida Mountains, on the edge of Messera level. The weather in the south of Crete is sunnier than anywhere else in Europe, with high temperatures because of its proximity to North Africa and the Libyan Sea. It is located about 230m above sea level. The altitude ensures a light, cool breeze in high summer. In winter there is very little rainfall and the average temperature is between 15-20 ° C. Rarely the temperature drops in winter below 10 ° C.
The village offers an indescribable fantastic views of the Libyan Sea and the olive - embossed and orange trees landscape.
Of particular note are the panoramic views of the spring still snow-capped summit of Mount Idi.
The small idyllic village, surrounded by unspoilt nature, is the ideal residence for those seeking tranquility, hikers, nature lovers and individualists.
In Kalochorafitis can still discover the original Crete.
The healthy climate of a Cretan village close to the mountains, which is located just a short distance of the villages Zaros Kamares and Vori, is the perfect location for exploring the region.
Nearby there are important archaeological sites such as Gortyn, Phaistos and Agia Triada.
Beautiful beaches such as Kokkinos Pyrgos, Kalamaki, Kommos and Matala can be reached shortly. Here it can be wonderful Cretan sun and the Libyan Sea to enjoy. The weather in southern Crete is sunnier than anywhere else in Europe.
None of these beaches is crowded, mass tourism are nowhere.
In around Kalochorafitis are some traditional villages in which hosts many festivals with Cretan music and dance in the summer. To set your daily problems aside. Charge your batteries with sunshine so you can enjoy an unforgettable holiday.
