|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Our Benedictine Suite (66 square metre/710 sq feet) is comprised of recently remodeled suite of rooms, with a private outdoor patio, nestled in a complex of medieval buildings. The house is located within the remnants of the ancient walls of the medieval town centre next to the magnificent 12th century Clunic priory church of Notre Dame which was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998. It has an excellent view of the church and the “Parc des Bénédictins”.
We have made every effort to maintain the antiquity of this charming two bedroom house during renovation. In the same complex we also have two other units for rent, please ask us for further information. Modern bathrooms, kitchen and living room make the unit an ideal place to relax while exploring the region. The house is rented on a weekly basis or a three night minimum stay.
While staying with us you will be a short walk to several bakeries, butcher shops, bars, restaurants and other amenities all within the medieval town centre. In addition to wine tasting and sightseeing you can spend your days walking or cycling the many trails in the area the best of which run along the Canal Lateral à La Loire. There is also the opportunity to travel down the Loire by kayak or canoe.
La Charité-sur-Loire is an hour and 45 minutes south of Paris. The owners live a two minute walk from the unit and are always on hand to answer any of your questions or if you need help with your French. Please see our website for more information of activities in the area.

Hello, we are Byron and Kelly Harker from Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada. We've had the opportunity to travel widely over the years, and have always enjoyed returning to France. In 2003 we decided to sell our home in Vancouver and move to France. We discovered the delightful town of La Charité-sur-Loire in Burgundy and immediately fell in love with the town and the area. In 2004 we opened the first of our vacation rentals and currently have five such rentals in the centre of this medieval town. We enjoy the many festivals in town and the area throughout the year. We are close enough to Paris to 'pop up' for the day. We enjoy sharing our love of the area with our guests from all over the world.
Byron and Kelly Harker purchased this house in 2003
La Charité-sur-Loire is south of the rain and north of the heat and as a result has very enjoyable weather. Our vacation rentals are in the centre of town and you are able to walk out your front door and enjoy the many bakeries, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. The Loire River is two blocks away and it has lovely beaches and walking paths along the riverbank. There is canoeing and kayaking on the river. We are close the wine areas of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire where you can meet the wine makers and enjoy tasting their wonderful wines. The castles of the Loire Valley are a two hour drive from us and make an enjoyable day trip. La Charité-sur-Loire is becoming an art, book and music cultural centre and as such there are many festivals throughout the year.
We are three retired ladies who have all been to France before but have never enjoyed or experienced such a wonderful holiday as our two and a half weeks stay in the Benedictine Suite in La Charite-sur-Loire. The lovely house in the heart of a most interesting town was well appointed and extremely comfortable. Its position enabled us to enjoy an easy walk to shops, cafes, restaurants - everything necessary to make our stay most enjoyable. Although centrally located it was extremely quiet except for the lovely sound of church bells next door chiming throughout the day. We hired a car for some of the time to visit some of the many interesting places in the area but we also took quite a few day trips by train to other lovely towns/villages on the train line - a very pleasant and easy way to enjoy travelling through the countryside.
The owners, Kelly and Byron were extremely helpful, offering advice and prompt assistance whenever needed. We thoroughly enjoyed Byron's walking tour through the town soon after we arrived. Also a wonderful wine and cheese tasting evening in their 16th century cellar.
Their knowledge of La Charite is extensive and their enthusiasm for this lovely town was contagious. We would love to spend time there again.
This was our second enjoyable stay in this quiet apartment. As before we found it clean, well maintained and furnished, and the owners welcoming and very helpful but never intrusive. The town centre position made eating out in the evening very easy - no driving necessary! We had good meals at the Auberge de Seyr and the Auberge de la poule noire. Good local shops nearby and Supermarkets on the edge of town.
Our vacation in Burgundy was everything we expected and more.
The property was easy to access (we flew into Orly and rented a car). The location of the unit was perfectly charming in a city filled with rich history. Our hosts, Byron and Kelly were beyond helpful and very knowledgeable regarding the region and history. At our doorstep we found restaurants, grocers, flower shops, bakeries etc. La Charite sur Loire is a charming little town.
The unit was clean and we were provided with toiletries and incidentals such as spices, coffee filters and laundry soap. We have rented vacation homes many times and this isn't always the case so we were very pleased. The wifi service was wonderful, allowing us to plan out day trips.
We highly recommend this vacation home and have plans to return with others.

Our family of 4, including 2 teenage daughters stayed in the benedictine suite for 1 week in July. The building and its history is just amazing for we Australians. Situated next to the church and in the grounds of the priory gave interesting views from every window. We were very comfortable though the kids chose to sleep on the 2nd rather than 3rd level due to the heat for a few nights. The main bed has a bed end which would be a problem for anyone taller than me who wants to stretch out (I'm 178cm). The kitchen had all the basic cooking utensils we needed. The wifi worked very well.
We enjoyed lazily kayaking down the river, riding the bikes available through Byron and Kelly, exploring the town of La Charite and attending the music festival that happened to be on while we were there.
We must make particular note about Byron and Kelly who were really helpful and generous hosts. We felt they went over and above what one would expect and made us feel welcome and comfortable. They seem to love being there and doing what they do.
So, overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to my friends and family.
The Benedictine Suite provides the perfect base for exploring the history and beauty of the surrounding countryside. The suite is immersed in the heart of the beautiful and richly cultural village of La Charite sur Loire. (Although charming and recently renovated it is not suitable for the elderly or disabled.) In every respect our stay in La Charite sur Loire exceeded our expectations.
Choosing La Charite-sur-Loire and the Benedictine suite was totally by chance. My husband and I could not have been more pleased with our stay for our first trip to Burgundy. The apartment was a pleasant surprise and our hosts, Byron and Kelly made us very welcomed! I highly recommend them and would stay with them in the future.
Wine tasting, visiting châteaux nearby. We have four bicycles and helmets available for rent for our guests at 15 euro per day.
