We cherish our historic Foundry home and we think you will love it, too...
My husband and I made our first trip to Key West in 1997.
Astounded at all of the sites and sounds, we fell hopelessly in love with Old Town! - The Victorian architecture, the charming and colorful Conch cottages tucked away on the small narrow laneways, the stunning sunsets and the casual rhythm of island life - there is always the unexpected!
Most days, we ride our bicycles to do the shopping or to go to the beach and leave the car parked under the carport - Both of us enjoy a carefree, yet active and stimulating life here in wonderful Key West - hardly attainable anywhere else in the world.
There is so much fascinating history and stunning natural beauty!
The authentic island flavor of Bahama Village and the lush grandeur of the Truman Annex Community have resonated with us all these years and continue to provide us with a refuge from a frantically fast paced world elsewhere.
A relaxed Conch way of life is definitely for us! How about you?
Rosemary Armstrong purchased this townhome in 2000
Our Foundry Building is an historic structure circa 1860, located within the gated community of the Truman Annex, formerly a U.S. Naval Base.
The wide open main floor of our home struck us with its spacious, airy atmosphere - the 12 foot high ceilings stunted all of the other properties we had seen before.
The exposed brick walls, full of character, remind us constantly of the rich and colorful heritage of Key West!
There are only 3 residents in our building and we enjoy this exclusivity.
We love to grill and eat dinner under the stars and value the large and extremely rare outdoor space, palm lined garden, deck and antiqued brick patio. The garden offers quiet privacy, tremendous everyday and nightly enjoyment and great relaxation.
What we fell in love with was the wide open center hall plan and the unique lay-out of our home!
The two upstairs bedrooms are extremely separate with their own adjoining bathrooms for total privacy, if 2 couples are staying for vacation.
Our home has 2 storeys and this was very important to us. We had previously owned a 3 storey home for a couple of years. We found this arrangement awkward, as our friends would have to trudge past our 2nd floor bedroom up yet another flight of stairs to their bedroom.
The only drawback to our current 2 storey home and ideal layout for privacy is... everyone we know wants to come for a visit at our Island Queen Foundry home!
You can go out to the frivolity of the infamous Duval Street and always retreat to our Foundry home and tropical garden for quiet time together or fun with friends.
Your car is parked at the garden gate - convenient for luggage and groceries.
The home has an inspiring and comfortable atmosphere you wont easily forget, after your stay is over.
Not only is it the best location - Island Queen is a one-of-a-kind property!
This home is loved and it shows.
Since all of our guests have been most caring and respectful of our home and our belongings, we are always making improvements for ourselves and our guests to enjoy.
We love our home and you will, too!
My friends and I chose this Foundry unit for our week vacation getaway, and could not have been more pleased with the property. It is located within a gated community right off Mallory Square and Duval St (and within walking distance to all of the restaurants, bars, shopping in downtown Key West). We rented bikes for sightseeing and to travel to the nearby beaches. The townhouse itself was very clean, spacious, beautifully decorated and contained all of the comforts of a home away from home. The two french doors in the front of the house opened up onto the private patio, where we spent much time sitting around drinking marguaritas. The patio is surrounded by landscaped foliage which provided privacy against the neighbors and walkways. There is a shared, heated pool, which was somewhat small but never seemed to get crowded (probably because the beach is so close by). From the time I made the reservations months in advance through our vacation stay, Rosemary (the owner) was always eager to answer questions and provide suggestions favorite restaurants, bars etc. In addition, the property manager provided us with pick-up and drop-off service to the airport, which saved us cab fare. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!! You won't be disappointed!!
Beautifully well-maintained unit, perfect for 2 couples. We were so comfortable there, it's just like home! Very quiet and private location, yet just a short walk to Mallory Square, Duval St and multiple restaurants. We really enjoyed sitting out in the courtyard under the shade of the palm trees. Can't wait to go back!
We enjoyed our stay at this house so much last year that we booked it again as soon as we came back. It's a beautiful clean house and we liked the location which was an easy walk to Duvall St., the beach and docks but gave us s quiet place to unwind and rest. It's perfect for four people with separate bedrooms on each side of the house. We loved having dinner in the court yard and felt safe in this gated community. Really cool that Truman's White House was right around the corner. Highly recommended!
A great condo located in what actually was a foundry. Original brick walls with high ceilings and in the best possible location in Key West old town. It is in walking distance of activities on Duval Street, Mallory Square, Fort Zachary State Park, Hemingway house, the Truman White House, etc. No car needed!
Unlike most condos in the foundry, it has two floors instead of three with a split stairway leading to two separate bedrooms and baths. The shared pool is close by, just across Front St in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood.
Rosemary has updated and remodeled two of the bathrooms in this very clean and comfortable condo.
This was our second visit to Key West. On our first visit we stayed at the Casa Marina which was lovely but a bit to out of the way. We loved the location of this unique home in the Foundry Building of the Annex. A beautiful red brick building located just a block away from everything. When we rented the condo we did receive a list of rules from Rosemary and I found seeing this comprehensive list of rules to be a very good sign that the person that owned this condo cared about keeping it nice. I was reassured we would not arrive and be disappointed by the condition of the residence. As I expected we arrive to a spotless home very well decorated and nicely appointed.
Before we arrived Rosemary emailed me with ideas of places to go and things to see in Key West. The gentleman that met us at the condo when we arrived was very helpful and friendly. We arrived before check in time and the cleaning lady was still at the condo. He was kind enough to allow us to leave our bags there while we went to lunch and called our cell phone the minute the residence was ready.
The outdoor patio was very comfortable for sitting and eating outside. There was beautiful outdoor lighting on the patio that came on every evening allowing us to enjoy it day and night.
The indoor furnishing were tasteful and comfortable. A beautiful dinning room table and chairs or a snack bar gave nice choices for eating areas. The kitchen was bright and modern and had everything you could possibly need.
At the end of our stay the gentleman who had checked us in and showed us around did come by to inspect the residence and to ask about our stay and check to see if we had any problems. We received out deposit back within 24 hours of checking out. Absolutely a great vacation rental.
This was our 12th year staying in Truman annex so we are familiar with other townhouse rentals.
Upon arrival we had to coordinate with the property manager to meet us at the property and check us in, a slight inconvenience from the usual lock box. Having read the "house rules" we were surprised by the manager verbally giving us even more; place a sheet on the sofa before sitting, no eating while watching TV, but you can't see the TV from the kitchen or dining room, can't wear shoes inside the unit, can use only delicate cycle on the washing machine, can't use bleach and must call to arrange a time to check out, another inconvenience.
Now this is a $3000 a week rental, a fair but top end price, after getting past the added restrictions we familiarized ourselves with our home for the next two weeks. The unit is spacious but poorly laid out. A stairway divides the LR from the kitchen and DR. The entire unit is poorly lit, ie when you enter the BR there is no switch to turn on a light. Upstairs the bedroom's were adequate. The one that we used had 2 singles made into a king with a very uncomfortable mattress. The TV's in the BRs were a minuscule 24 inches with a different verizon package from the downstairs- very confusing. The shower in our bathroom was very small and did not have hot water so you had to walk down 10 stairs and up another to get to the functioning shower. At the end of the first week a mandatory $140, 3 hour cleaning was required and we had to vacate the unit.
If you are like us and like to dine on the deck before going out, you had to eat out in the dark. There is no outdoor lighting, a few low voltage ground level landscape lights, but nothing to illuminate the deck or front entrance. Speaking of the deck all is that is provided is a very inexpensive plastic table with 4 molded plastic chairs, $500 spent at Home Depot would provide a nice table and chairs and a few nice lounge chairs. You could not sit out and relax because there was nothing to sit on which is a big part of our vacation. The fenced yard and deck is spacious but I suspect the good deck furniture is locked up in the owner's closet.
At the end of our stay we had to again arrange for the property manager to check us out. My wife and I stood by the door hoping we passed the inspection as he checked every room and closet.
