World class views with down home comfort. You can relax with a good read or dine on your private lanai with a 180-degree full ocean view with only a few palm trees between you and the ocean, 50 feet away. From your 3rd floor vantage point, framed by the islands of Molokai and Lanai, watch whales, dolphins, flying fish, sea turtles, sunsets, rainbows and even 'moonbows' if lucky. We face directly westward to allow maximum enjoyment of all sunsets.Sunrise is also a gorgeoous time as the mountains on Molokai are lit, from a gentle pink to full sun, usually with clouds girdling the peaks.

Our 2 story, townhouse style condo provides a smoke free enviroment and occupies the top level of a low rise building on Lower Honoapi'ilani Road. There is an designated smoking area on the property and it's located street side, away from the pool and seaside areas.The unit was completely remodeled in 2006. The first floor includes one bedroom (queen bed) with an ensuite bath, kitchen area with adjoining living room, and lanai. One flight of stairs go to the second floor which has a carpeted master bedroom (queen bed, mattress new 2/2012) with walk-in shower and an adjacent loft that is ideal for private reading or accessing the internet via the wireless connection. Ceiling fans in all rooms and on the lanai aid the cooling tradewinds to provide a true tropical experience.

This small (only 44 units), quiet complex offers direct ocean access for snorkeling and swimming. It is in contrast to the hectic crowds around the highrise developments present elsewhere in West Maui. Lahaina town and Ka'anapali Beach are a few miles south and Napili and Kapulua are the same northward. The location is ideal for accessing all of the activities available on the island. I particularly recommend a visit to the Whaling Museum at Whaler's Village on Kaanapali Beach (free or minimum fee), the exhibits at the Old Lahaina Courthouse (open daily 9a-5p) next to the banyan tree in downtown Lahaina, and sit in on a "Whale Talk" presented by docents from the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary staff. These talks are free and given at their location in Kihei OR in the video theater at the Old Lahaina Courthouse (currently Mon.,Wed.,& Fri., 11am-noon. but you can check their website for any changes).

You can walk the beach or sidewalk 2 blocks to the Farmer's Market, (lots of free samples to tempt you),coffee shop or health food store. A full service grocery, multiple restaurants and specialty shops are within a half mile. If interested ask me about favorite dining spots and good deals we know about but these do change over time.

Most Friday evenings there is a potluck pupu party poolside for all guests, and nightly at sunset you will have the opportunity to blow a conch shell and join the nightly ceremony.

After a full day of enjoying the world famous attractions of Maui, a quiet day at the pool, or time spent on your private lanai you can fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the surf breaking just yards away.

An absolutely fabulous Maui experience!!!

Excellent visit to Maui! We spent a week in September(20 to 27) at Kulakane place. John and Carol have a GREAT condo! Fully stocked and in a perfect location in West Maui. Could not have asked for a better condo - full kitchen nicely remodeled, 3 TV sets, top notch bathrooms, furniture and amenities... The view on the lanai was FANTASTIC and how can you beat the sunset with a glass of wine and green turtles in blue water, right here, 20 feet from your chair! The Kulakane’s staff was very kind and friendly. Friday sunset potluck with your neighbors was great. This was a wonderful vacation rental. John was very quick and helpful in answering our questions. I would highly recommend this place for your next trip to Maui I wish we could have stayed longer.

Stayed in condo 9/5 to 9/09/11

The view from this condo was awesome. The property manager and rental manager were super. The location was great for getting around. Now the bad part. The mattresses in both bedrooms were absolutely terrible. They definitely need to be replaced. The mattress in the master bedroom was like sleeping on springs and the guest bedroom you had to crawl out of bed because it was only on a wood platform. It felt like you were camping. The inside of the condo was decorated nice but the couch too was very uncomfortable. Thank goodness we didn't sit around too much. We were awaken each morning around 4:15 a.m. by barking dogs and roosters that live across the street. The windows had to remain open due to the condo not having air conditioning. We did get a nice breeze but the condo was hot after taking showers. We enjoyed being outside by the small pool, lounging on the chairs watching the sea turtles. You couldn't beat the view! The property was well-maintained and clean. Mattresses need to be replaced! The photos reflect the condo. If the mattresses were replaced and something could be done about the barking dogs and roosters then I would recommend this condo.

Owner's Response: Bottom line .... mattresses will be replaced. We had already been considering this due to satisfaction with new mattresses in our home. Based on this review, the replacement will occur as soon as we can be on property to make appropriate choice. We anticipate this will be at end of November, 2011. The couch MAY be changed but that will be a harder decision. We have complained to the Hawaii state department of health (surprisingly the place to go) regarding the neighborhood animals, Since we have owned the condo we have received more accolades than complaints regarding the "pastoral sounds".
